TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I've been a loyal Gates customer for over 15 years. I've purchased multiple vehicles from here. I have referred multiple people who have purchased vehicles from here. I consistently have gone here for vehicle maintenance and oil changes. The salesmen I have always dealt with, Bill Alter- does a phenomenal job at finding you the vehicle that you want. But after that, you're SOL. Gates does not care about their loyal customers. Once you're on the hook for a vehicle, they do not take care of you. After an oil change, I used their car wash. The streamers on the side got stuck in my mirror, pulling the back plastic piece off. Gates refused to do anything. Would not fix the issue and I was stuck making an insurance claim. Just last week, I went for an oil change. Spent $98. I paid the invoice and was told I had a 'small oil leak' .. nothing further. Got in my truck & noticed the technicians did not even reset the oil life on the dash. Not the end of the world, just lazy. An hour later, I am leaving an errand and notice my dash is lit up, with the parking brake turned on. I did not utilize my parking brake & have rarely ever used it. Found this strange. I pushed the parking brake button and it did not turn off. Tried multiple other ways to try and release it. Nothing. I contacted Gates and explained I was just there for an oil change and tire rotation and all of a sudden the parking brake is activated. I was told by an employee they would make it right and they would contact the manager in the body shop. The manager, Jason (long weird last name) contacted me back. Told me there is nothing he can do about it; but if I want to PAY for a tow back there, they can take a look at it. Furious. I had no issues with my vehicle, a 2020 Silverado with low miles and NO PRIOR ISSUES. Jason stated there was NOTHING the technicians could have done that would've caused a faulty brake sensor to activate. Thus I paid for a tow and waited for their technicians to look at it again. Employee Jared Peek, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Professional and helpful. Got under my truck and looked at it. Somehow, the actuator on my rear tire got cracked and needed replaced. How in the world does that just so happen to occur? Well..... I have reason to believe, but obviously can't confirm without video footage from the body shop, while rotating my tires, a tech let my tire fall against the actuator, causing it to crack. So I was forced to spend another $80 on a new parking brake actuator right then and there- or possibly be stuck without my truck all weekend, while they fixed their mistake. Roughly $100 oil change. $80 park. $150 tow. For Jason to tell me it's not their fault or problem. DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR SERVICES. They don't care about your loyalty. read more

You can't put a minus 10 but it is that bad of a place to buy a used car because once it leaves the lot it's yours and Gates will not do anything on repair cost. I bought a car from them drove it about a 3 weeks and motor locked up 200 miles away and talked to service and all upper management and was told sorry sold as is. So to shorten the story $15 000 down the drain in 3 weeks. That's why I do a review on Yelp every year so others know what happened and know to steal clear of Gates. read more

Customer service was very disappointing. Service Department Brett was extremely rude and disrespectful. Went in for oil change and looking for estimate on minor shifter replacement estimate. Brett never acknowledged my presence or introduced himself that he would be helping with my repair. Even after oil change completion not once did Brett acknowledge me. I did talk with Service Manager on the manner of treatment I was given. The service lady and Johnny were helpful and courteous despite Brett just leaving me standing there like a statue with no acknowledgement. read more

Took my car in after it wouldn't start for a new battery. while there I also got the oil changed. 1 of my tpms sensors was bad. I told them not to fix it and when I picked it up, all 4 sensors were now not reading. Got some BS about if 1 is bad they all won't read. funny that the other 3 were fine when I brought it in... This is also not the first bad experience I've had with them but wanted to give them a second chance. NEVER AGAIN read more

They are terrible terrible terrible with customer service. I bought a truck from them in February. I was promised when I left the lot that all the brakes and rotors were brand new. That was a lie. Soon as I left the lot, my brakes are squeaking so I gave it a little bit of time so I could wear them down a little more because maybe they were brand new! Exactly 30 days later I texted my sales rep (Brandon Molina) and told him that my brakes were squeaking, he responded and said he would get me scheduled for a service update and that was that. I never once heard back from him or service. Then for the remainder of the three months (I bought the truck in February. I texted Brandon in March.) April, May and June I put an online service request because the brakes are squeaking. I never once got a call or text and email or anything. The week before the Fourth of July, I went in on a saturday to face-to-face, tell them what my issues were. I was told I would hear back that following Monday by 10 AM. I never once got again a phone call or text and email or anything. Monday, July 21 I finally heard back from Brandon. We scheduled to have my truck serviced on the 22nd. They ended up keeping my truck overnight so on the 23rd I got a phone call from Johnny in service. Johnny told me the issue with my brakes (slightly rusted rotor that caused my brake pad to be worn down unevenly) and told me I have to pay $580 to get both of my front brakes replaced... yes you read that right. Front breaks. 580$. Once he told me that I called front desk reception and asked to speak to a manager. I ended up speaking with somebody named Andy. I explained the situation to Andy and he said he would pay for half of the cost to get the brakes redone. I asked him who's paying the other half because I am not because their team failed to get back to me within the 90 days. I explained to Andy the entirety of the situation in very full detail, he ended up getting an attitude with me and hanging up on me. Not even 10 minutes later Johnny calls me back and tells me that the service is 100% free. Which is awesome but I shouldn't have been going through the wringer for five months to get something so simple figured out and taken care of. I easily could've redone my own brakes for not even a quarter of the cost. ($120 max) Overall, the buying process with them is amazing and they're a great salesman with a lot of great personable skills. The customer service aspect is complete bullshit. So I strongly suggest if you plan on buying any vehicle from them new or used do not expect to have great customer service if you have any issues after sales. Jonny with service was awesome though! I made an appointment 30+ days in advance. Drive 45 minutes to drop of truck for a recall. 30 minutes later they call and say I can pick the truck up because they need to order parts. And that they need approval from GM Chevrolet to get paid. Both were blatant lies by Heather. She flashed some papers at me claiming there are 3 different possible parts and they needed the truck there to determine the correct part. I asked to see the paper and it stated all they needed was the V.I N. #. I called another Chevy Dealership and they confirmed it was all BS. I said I didn't want it repaired at Gates and Heather got upset. Ridiculous. She quoted me $380 for 2 TPS sensors and Belle Tire quoted $180. The only positive thing I can say is they have an excellent service manager named Austin C. If you go there be sure you talk to him!!!!!!!! read more

Regularly use this location for oil changes. Satisfaction with those. Tire rotation is a thumbs down every time it is performed. Three times now, my truck has been returned to me with missing lug nuts. One nut missing the first two times, today two were missing on the same wheel. How does one misplace two out of six lug nuts? I took one of my trucks in for an airbag recall. Everyone in the service department was ok. I'd been thinking about selling this vehicle, so I sat down with Glen Walton to talk about if they'd be interested in purchasing the truck. It is because of Glen that I will never set foot on a Gates' lot ever again. He told me that I was wasting his time because I wouldn't agree to sell the vehicle to them BEFORE they offered me a price. How can I do that when the terms of the sale haven't been agreed upon? Very hard sell. Very confusingly hostile. I don't understand why anyone would want to treat a customer like this but since that time whenever someone mentions buying a car or asks about car lots I make sure to tell them that they should definitely avoid Gates because they're the worst. Also, it's pretty trivial compared to everything else, but: Glen said if I sold them the vehicle he would have a check for me in 7 to 10 days (and didn't pass up on the opportunity to respond in a dismissive and offensive manner when I expressed my thought that this time frame seemed a bit long). Bought from this dealer for the first time based on positive feedback from some friends and family. After test driving a car in a heavy rain the rain kept hitting the windshield and I wasn't able to notice that the windshield had a chip in it, not a big deal contacted my sales rep and apparently the only person that they have that is allowed to do the work is an older gentleman that comes in once a month and I was only called the same day and told "hey can you drop your car off today so we can get that done?" After months they finally sent the guy to my house in the middle of the winter and he kind of fixed it, you can still clearly tell it was chipped I contacted them again and told them and I was told they'd get back to me. I've called back a quite a few other times and it's been over a year with no call backs. I should've walked initially when the salesman kept trying to strong arm a higher price than I wanted but we needed a larger vehicle and I took the hand I was dealt. Sales experience was a disaster and extremely disappointing considering all of the recommendations from people I knew spoke of a family like experience that they were taken care of. Service, is also a bit of a nightmare. Now, let me say that where you can drop your car off for oil, tires and breaks is tip top and they are wonderful over there. Collision side is another story, I know that with COVID and all being a little more tight back in April that social distancing was a must, but making me and my 5 year old daughter stand out in the cold to wait almost 30 minutes for the shuttle was kind of crummy. Also, telling me my car was ready 3 different times and I took time from work each time to come get my car only to find out it wasn't done. I'd let them change the oil in any of my vehicles, but for purchasing a new vehicle or collision repairs I'll never use Gates again. I hope this actually makes it's way to someone at Gates to have this kind of stuff corrected and prevent future instances like these from happening again. read more

I had actually purchased it last Fall but work and life prevented me from driving it back to NC until last weekend. I had purchased a new battery for the car last September and was very surprised that Gates said it tested bad. Sure enough, when I returned the battery to WalMart, the less than year old battery did test bad and WalMart gave me a refund. Being a shade tree mechanic myself, I am often distrustful of auto service centers but Gates has earned mine and my family's trust time and time again. read more

TL;DR at the bottom of the review. I bought a 2010 Chevrolet Impala from them 2 years ago. It's our second car and I work from home, so in these two years barely 2k miles were added to the car. Now about two weeks ago, I dropped the car for a few issues that had started to appear. After a couple of days, I get a call telling me that the spark plugs, the engine mount, and a slew of other issues will need $3400 to get it all fixed. I agree as it was less than the $5k that I paid for the car. A week past the day at which they were supposed to be done, I get a call telling me that as they fixed the leaking transmission, they saw metal chips in the transmission, 'the worst they had ever seen'. At this point they want me to go from paying $3400 to $6400 to get the transmission fixed too. Because the transmission worked just fine when I dropped the car off (this wasn't part of the items to fix), and because I am not gonna have them get more money from me to fix the lemon they sold me, I told them to just fix the rest, but to leave the transmission. They ask for a day to put the car back together. The next day I get a call that after putting the car together 'the test drive showed that the transmission was acting up a bit'. I come by the shop. The manager (to which I had not asked to speak, since I just wanted my car back), try to convince me to drop an extra $3k to do the transmission, which again, I refuse. After way to much back and forth, when they all explain to me again that none of this is their fault in any way, I finally get them to give me my car back. At this point I have to wait for Johnny to get my bill together since 'he didn't know I would be getting my car back'. I had only said so three times in two days... He manages to get my bill together and surprise, surprise, it's now $4k instead of the $3400 we agreed on. I point it out, and he get frustrated at me when I insist to have the extra charge removed, but oblige. I then get my key (singular because they were supposed to get a new key done, but they mess that up too), and get in my car. Turns out, it doesn't have an issue with the transmission when you drive it. No, instead it just does not drive at all. The transmission is dead as a door knob. Not only that but lot of the elements they were supposed to fix (the stabilitrack, the iddle being too low, ...) are not fixed. I go back in and Johnny tells me that they couldn't do them because the transmission wasn't good. Why would they charge me for it then? Your guess is as good as mine. As for the transmission being absolutely dead? Tough luck, again not their fault in any way shape or form. TL;DR: They sold me a lemon with bad plugs, busted engine mount, and a transmission on its last leg, and then when I put it in to get repaired, they charged me $3400 to not do some of the fixing we agreed on because they were busy killing the transmission and leave me with a junk car I had to tow out of the shop. Cherry on the cake? For such great service they tried to add $600 to the bill. 10/10 would recommend if you like being scammed like you never have in your life. read more

Comically bad service. I went in today for an oil change, after waiting for 4 hours the service engine light now being on, as it wasn't before only adds to my frustration. I called in today before I was going to get the oil change to check and see if there would be much of a wait, after hearing it wasn't I decided to bring my Gates vehicle in. Upon arrival I was checked in then told it's going to take a while. Not the best news to hear after calling ahead, but I understand rushes happen. After 45 minutes waiting offsite I'm called and told there is a nail in the tire. Nothing really more to that other than awkward silence. Having the dent, ding, and tire coverage on the vehicle the tire should of been replaced already, how that isn't alerted to the staff prior on there system, I don't know. So I have to go down to plead my case that in fact I am covered for the tire. Then more waiting without any estimated time of completion given. I figured a tire transplant might take what 30 minutes so I wait. After an hour my fiancée goes back to retrieve our things from the vehicle, that we thought could be left for our 30 minute oil change. When she's there she is told oh we don't have the tire so that will take 20 minutes and then putting it on will take an hour. So more waiting. I arrive being told my vehicle is ready "over there" with a random point, great service technique. So I wait for the awkward kid to ring me up, take the keys and head out to "over there". Look at the vehicle still dirty after I paid extra for the wash, with the check engine light on as well as the tire pressure light. I walk in and then am told oh I need the coin to wash it myself, because they don't do that. I get the coin and get the disappointing automatic wash. Then have to go to bell tire because the tires are all under pressure to fill them up. What a disappointing experience of extremely poor communication, customer service, and job quality. Gates Chevy is truly unbelievable. A trio of haggard travelers on our way from San Diego, CA to Washington D.C., our Chevy step van broke down a few miles away. Gates Chevy was kind enough to welcome us at 6:45 a.m. on a busy Monday morning and quickly diagnose our failed engine. Service representative BRETT wasted no time in scouring the region for used engines. After little success, service representative STEVE even used his extensive network to find us an inexpensive long-distance tow. And (here's the kicker) sales executive ROB went so far as to drive us and our gear 10 hours through the night to Washington D.C. in order to reach our destination in time. Finally, PRESIDENT MATT HELMKAMP himself came out to check on us and offered us a rental car at an incredible price. The kindness, professionalism, and genuine desire to assist at this establishment is unmatched. I took my car here a year ago to get my serpentine belt and spark plugs replaced, and after getting an inspection this year, I learned that they never replaced the belt or spark plugs. I also suspect that they did not give me the oil change that I paid for. Fraudulent. Please look elsewhere. read more

After two days of failed attempts to get into Walmart for a couple oil changes for the misses and myself, we finally went to Gate's for a change and was in a decent line of vehicles parked waiting for the same. The attendants were swapping vehicles in and out effectively and by the time we took a short walk to Burger King for breakfast and Big Lots for a few odds and ends we were complete and on our way! They will lie to you and tell you that they have the car you are interested in on their lot But you will drive there only to find out that one of their other dealerships has taken it to their lot and it's currently being sold. Then they will try to persuade you to buy something that's "comparable" to what you were interested in. They will also run your credit Without your permission which will put hard inquiries on your credit report, not just 1 either. This happened to us twice in 7 months. Sooo glad they didn't get my money. What a Joke of a dealership. I'm surprised they've been around for as long as they have. read more

Was in the last week of training for Gates when I decided to refuse a position with them. They tell their employees to never make any promises and then to look at the "customers trade" and nit pick it apart so the customer will feel their trade in is less valuable. I don't believe you need to mislead the customers in order to help them purchase a car. Shame on you for training people to do this. It is actually in the training manual as "the silent walk around" (which refers to walking around the automobile and shaking your head no a lot while picking their car apart) EXPOSED CLINT Probably shouldn't train good employees to do this. What a very horrible experience this dealership gives , second time in as a bystander,vwatched them give repeated run around and all lies. They actually ran after us the first day to get our business and all to let a girl take a car home overnight ask her to go back in and to just waste our valuable time. All it was , was to get more m9ney down. On the second day a manager ran out after us asking for the keys acting like we were going to steal their car because the girl had to get her belongings out, had the nerve to put down her uncle who owns a very reputable marina and does very WELL, also the day before there were keys laying on a hood of a car in lot that we found and turned in. I've been bringing my car here for years, this time around the service was awful. Brian was in charge of the car being repaired, had to call them 3 times throughout the day to see if the car was ready. All 3 times when I called, i was told that they would give me a call right back and had to wait at least an hour before calling them back. They didn't even call me when he car was ready for pick up. Purchased a black 2012 Silverado in November 2012 that has chrome rails along the bed. several months I noticed that the chrome was flaking off so I contacted the salesman that sold me the truck and he said to bring it in so they can look at it. I did and the salesman and service manager agreed they needed to be replaced. approximately a week later I was notified that they were not installed at the factory but it was a dealer installed item and that I would have to take the vehicle to where they purchased the items and have them replaced. I did not think it was my responsibility to do that but when I had some free time I contacted them and they notified me that they did not installed rails but that the dealership did. so again back to the dealership and now all I get is a runaround. It's not going to cost them anything to replace these rails for me. They are under warrants by the manufacturer of the rails. To have a happy customer all they had to do was take them off get the replacements and put them on. Instead the sales manager just wants to be an A** read more
