We stoped by as part of Gallery Night Providence and I had an opportunity to talk with the owners…read moreand shared that I come from a long line of artists and art lovers, in fact, my great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents have brought many of their items here over the years to be expertly matted and framed. I learned that this business had the distinction of being the oldest framing shop in the country dating back to the early 1900's and has remained a family run local business during this time. (Wow! That's impressive!) Initially based out of the Arcade in Downcity Providence, they moved to this location in the 1970's and have continued to expand over time. What you will find today are three massive floors filled with artwork, prints, drawings, ceramics, etc from great local artists in addition to their large framing area. They can handle all types of projects small or large and provide service and support both locally and out of state. They boast quality craftsmanship, lifetime guarantees on their work, and prices that are comparable to what you'd find from the big box chains that offer framing services (no coupon needed!) The difference is the years of knowledge and experience you get when choosing Providence Picture Frame as well as the good feeling you get knowing that you are helping a long time family run store stay in business for future generations. You'll also find friendly employees who care passionately about their business, their community, and helping the customer get exactly what they are looking for. Pro tips: Consider shopping in their gallery for unique and special birthday or holiday gifts. Not sure how to display that special photo, artwork, or sentimental item? Stop by to talk to them about their custom framing ideas and to preserve your one of a kind item for a lifetime.

I rarely give one star, but unfortuntley, this is not a business that I can recommend at all based…read moreon my experience. I wanted to get a rather large painting framed this past summer and wanted to get a couple of quotes. I brought it to the first gallery and got a quote of about $775. I came here second and asked for a ball-park quote for a matte and frame. The owner, Kristin, showed me a very similar frame and told me it was $13/foot. She also showed me a canvas spacer which was gorgeous to go with it (instead of a matte). She calculated it out and told me it would be $370 to $400 for the complete job including frame and spacer. I took the 2 samples home to consult with my husband who liked it and went back a couple of days later to drop it off and place my order. I couldn't believe the excellent price, but I verified it with her twice, so I left her with a $100 deposit and asked her to call me with an exact price (which she said she would do in a few days and that the entire job would take 3 to 4 weeks). I was not in a hurry and said that was fine. After 4 weeks, I called because I still had not received a call with the exact price of the job. She apologized and said that she had been sick but told me she would call me in the next couple of days with the price. She called me a week later and told me that the price was over $800!! I told her that when she quoted me originally, she said $370-$400, and she said she must have been just quoting the cheapest I could possibly do it for because the frame I picked out was over $25/foot and the canvas spacer was over $30/foot. I told her that the quote she gave was for the specific frame and spacer that I took home the sample for, and reminded her that she told me the frame was $13/foot and she said there was some error. She apologized and I told her I would just come and pick up the painting and frame it some other time as that price was not at all what we discussed and I asked for a refund. When I arrived at the shop she showed me several other (much less appealing options) that would be closer to $400, but I was more than done at that point and took my refund deposit and left. She was very friendly, but I don't understand how you can give someone a price quote that is less than HALF of what the actual cost is. Not to mention waste 5 weeks of my time before letting me know how far off the mark you were. I will not be returning.
