I've really been debating leaving this review because I did enjoy the painting (for the most part). We (my husband and I) went for the very first time a couple weeks ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made reservations ahead of time and when we got there they were assigning tables to sit at. We got shown out table and then we got moved. We were shown the other places to sit so we started looking for the pieces we were going to paint. We returned to the table and another lady started telling us to move again, we would be better off sitting somewhere else. So now we've been moved twice and we end up at a table with little kids who have zero interest in painting. They are on their phones and pushing/knocking the table and my husband and I are having to stop continuously so our painting doesn't get messed up (it did when the kid hit the table and we needed assistance fixing the piece-and we complained at that time). I should note-when we first arrived we told them we were celebrating our anniversary (they asked) and we were told "oh, you need to do a tile!." We didn't think anything of it at that time. When we were almost finished painting the plate we had picked out, a tile was brought over to us. We never asked for it and honestly forgot all about it. It was given to us and we were told to enjoy it. We finally finished the plate and tile so we brought them up to the front. There, we were charged for the tile we never asked for and to be perfectly honest had zero interest in doing - we didn't even put much effort into painting it because at that point we wanted to get out of there. The girl checking us out had no desire to follow up on it so we left, mad. I was told "give us 2 weeks" for the pieces to be ready. No other instructions. So I go yesterday to pick up the pieces -2 weeks and 3 days later. I walk in and tell the desk I'm here to pick them up. "Did you call first?" Ummmm, no, I wasn't told to do that and it's been longer than the 2 weeks. Then she can't find my stuff in the computer, both by phone # and name. I tell her the date we were there and she has to go find the actual paper slip. Then she can't find the pieces and there are now 2 people looking for the items. They finally find them after about 10 minutes of me standing stupidly at the front. Did I enjoy the actual painting? Yes Did I enjoy the overall experience? No Was the customer service good? Not great Will we go back? Probably not, I might give them a 2nd try by my husband will definitely not. read more

This place is so cute and cozy! They have tons of options or choose from to paint! Little pricy but worth the money! Staff is super helpful! You paint your piece and pick it up 8-10 days later. We had our daughter's 6th birthday party here last week. The "event" rooms are upstairs... I believe there are two.. if you were going to bring a group or have a party. Once you guests arrive, you will receive a tutorial on how to decorate your pottery... the instructor was clear and patient with the little kids. Then the paints are put out for sharing and everyone digs in. The kids love painting and I think that since they knew they were going to keep the end result, they were even more excited. There is a catch and you need to know this... we were not told when booking the party... Once the pottery has been decorated, it takes about two weeks before you can pick it up. As the host, this may be good or bad but we liked it because there were parents present who we had never met before and really enjoyed... a nice way to further connect with them as we will deliver each child's art work to their home. Aside from that, we supplied the cake, the drinks, the pizza was delivered and Clay Time provided all the paper goods and utensils. So, all in all I give it two thumbs up.... I actually went downstairs to check out the more adult projects that were going on... some pretty impressive stuff. I may be back with my iPod for quiet art time myself... would be tre-kewl to make some pottery and give it as gifts to family and friends... read more

I took my grandchildren one rainy day. It was very busy. The staff was amazing and my grandchildren had a great time. Thank you.

On October 26, I had a birthday party for both of my daughters. The party was going well until a female employee came into our designated area and started bad mouthing the kids...in front of all the adults. She was yelling at all the kids and calling them disrespectful and rude. Why? Because my children decided to use a mug--that they all painted on, to use as a brush holder! Mind you it's not like we wasn't paying for the mug--it was part of our package but bad mouth all the children is unacceptable. Even when we told her that it wasn't okay, she continued. When I went over to the bathroom to help all the kids washing their hands, she was in the next room bad mouthing my children...again over a mug that we was paying for. Once I went downstairs to pay off the remaining balance, this woman decided not to even apologize at all but to go on about her broken hand. I am beyond disgusted with this place, I never had a bad experience till now and I will never go again or even recommend anyone to go here. Kids were there to have fun and enjoy pottery that we paid for, so if the kids decided to use a mug that I fully paid for--to use as a brush holder...that's okay. For this woman to still be employed--a place where kids are always there--is not okay. read more

Although I haven't been to the Claytime Studio, I was volunteering at a local elementary school and a girl from Claytime came to do some after-school pottery painting with the kids. I got to paint a piece of pottery too. I had so much fun doing this and when I got the bowl back a few weeks later... wow. Just wow. The colors were bright and fantastic. I have heard that Claytime is BYOB and it looks like other reviewers before me have confirmed that. I will definitely be going to the studio soon. What a great relaxing way to spend a weekend evening with a date or a few friends. Havin' a glass of wine, painting pottery, talking and just chilling out. We planned my little sister's 10th birthday here and made reservations ahead of time. The day of there was a snowstorm in the morning. I called and left a voice mail in the morning to see if they were going to be open in the afternoon. Since the snow was supposed to end around 3 pm, I didn't think it was going to be an issue. Never heard back. I called again around 2 pm (and by this time the snow had already subsided) and this girl answered the phone to tell me that she was leaving and they were closed. Very rude. Nobody ever called me to let me know that they were planning to close, not even after I called and left a voice mail. The person who answered the phone said she was going to let the owner know and that the owner would call me back to reschedule and give me a gift certificate - NEVER HAPPENED. This is not how you run a business. I feel bad for the little kids who were looking forward to go here and celebrate. I understand if you have to close down because of a snowstorm, but you have to let your customers know ahead of time (especially since they had all of my contact info) so that way we can plan accordingly. Poor management and very irresponsible. read more

I found Claytime by Googling and reading reviews. My husband and I went one Friday for date night, never having been to any shop of this type. We thought it was great! They had shelves and shelves of unpainted pottery to pick from (reviews for some other places often said the pottery was very limited). I picked a large mug and my husband picked a small flower pot. The staff was beyond helpful. They were great about answering all our newbie questions and giving us recommendations about paint color, technique, etc. There was a kids' party at the same time, but they were upstairs in a function room and it didn't bother us at all. If I recall, the price was per piece, not per time. So you know up front how much it will cost, and you can pick your pottery according to what you want to spend. Then you can take your time creating it. When I picked up the pieces 2 weeks later after they fired them, we were both thrilled with how they came out. read more

Our family (all adults) go there several times a year and it's wonderful. Staff is equally supportive of every project from the simplest to the most crazy-ambitious-experimental! Went here with a group from my church. I called ahead to make reservations and we got a nice table for all of us. The place is very big and can accommodate small and large groups or kids or adults, which is very nice. We came on a Friday night when they are BYOB, so we brought beer and wine and food. We each got to pick out a piece of pottery to glaze, and they have lots of variety... mugs, plates, bowls, serving platters, margarita glasses, vases, figurines, etc etc. We picked out a dog treat jar to do. The people working there teach you how to do it and will even show you how to do different techniques. They have tools and colors to do most anything. When you are done, they will fire it and you can pick it up in a few weeks. Prices were decent I guess... for us it was $30 for the jar and half of that to paint, so $45 total. They have cheaper pieces of pottery to do so you can spend as little or as much money as you want. We printed off a $1 off coupon from their website. My only concerns with this place were the fact that all the pottery was "made in china" --ughhhh, and it's in a weird location off Rte 9 with a small parking lot. Had a fun time though, so I'd probably come back with another group. read more

My kids and I LOVE Clay Time! We've actually been going for years but I just keep forgetting to write a review. The staff is super friendly and I love that we can bring in food and drinks. The kids love to spend hours there painting their creation. Oh, and my "kids" are 16 and 20 so this isn't just fun for the little ones! The only reason I gave it four stars was because of the pricing. I can't say if they're more expensive than similar types of paint-your-own pottery, but for an afternoon activity it can get pretty expensive really fast. read more

I have been here several times...for the most part - we have had wonderful experiences here. We have had two birthday parties for my daughter here in the past and were impressed with the teachers. The kids had a great time. We've been just to go as a family date and paint...again, wonderful time. The reason I scored only 3-stars was an incident that happened last summer. They offer summer camps. We signed our daughter up for two camps (each lasting a week). The first camp that she was signed up for was mid-July. The Friday before the camp they called mid-day and left a voicemail stating the camp that my daughter was due to arrive on Monday morning was canceled because they didn't get a big enough turnout for enrollment. This put me in a tough position as I now I had no childcare lined up for the week and they gave me such short notice. I explained this to the employee on the phone - her response was "oh, you work?" The camp was from 9-3...I was able to flex my work schedule to get my daughter to and from the camp... I found this incredibly unprofessional to assume I didn't work and this camp was just to get my daughter out of my hair for a week. I also found it unprofessional to call me mid-day on a Friday to notify me that the weeklong camp that was due to start Monday was cxl'ed. read more
