I like to browse consignment shops sometimes, rarely ever buy anything, but it's just fun to take a look. This shop is large and filled with nice furniture, glassware, jewelry, and knickknacks. There were a couple dining sets that seemed to be priced very well. It's clean and most items seem to be in great shape. I want to check out their sister shop for clothing soon if I get a chance. read more

Gallery 56 in Clinton, MA accepted over 200 items of mine on consignment. The owners, Don and Nancy Koswieski, charged me over $1400. to pick up the items on whch they would collect 50% of the selling price of items sold but after a while they refused to complete the offering for sale of all the items after taking more than a year and half to offer for sale what items they did. They also damaged an antique clock of mine and were unwilling to reimburse me for its value and that became part of my original complaint to the Court.The Magistrate ordered that Don and Nancy Koswieski reinburse me for the value of the clock damaged while in their care. I took them to Small Claims Court also seeking "Specific Performance"--meaning that the Court compel the shop to finish offering my items for sale as had been originally agreed--but as it was a small claims action, the Magistrate did not rule on that specific issue. Instead, she ordered the items to be made available for me to pick up. I had not asked for their return nor for the associated pick-up charges in the original complaint, and because I had not done so, I could not later ask for the refund of the associated pick-up fees for those items. Despite my many, many requests, the shop inexpicably refused to provide me with a complete list of my items that had been accepted on consignment, that they had never offered for sale. The shop never refunded me approximately $300 in pick-up fees for the items never offered for sale. Nancy and Don Koswieski had filed a counter-claim seeking to charge me storage and other fees, but they did not prevail and the Magistrate denied their claim. No matter how many times I had asked the shop to simply complete the offering of my property for sale, they refused. I was obliged to take them to Court as a result. Love,love, love Gallery at 56! We came here before going to other stores for a dining room table and chairs. We got an authentic wooden mahogany table and chair set for an amazing price! The decor here is amazing and you'll find at least something unique and mostly high quality furniture at a pretty reasonable price. The staff working here are super nice and informative, and I come here to window shop, hang out and use some samples for my interior designing. Love this place!!! Also, if you are looking to buy - I'd recommend just getting it. I saw a gorgeous mirror that I should have just bought- now I'm kicking myself for not buying it- it's gone! If you buy any huge furniture, you just need to have your own way of getting it back home. I'd highly recommend for anyone who likes unique and high quality furniture at a pretty reasonable price. read more

Walking in here I wanted to live in this space. It is gorgeous inside. It's laid out nicer than many fancy antique shops, but the prices are fantastic and they seem open to negotiations. Since they aren't attached to any other public businesses, it would be nice if they had a public restroom for their customers, but that's my only gripe. It's a shame too, 'cause I was reasy to spend but I had to GO, so I had to leave to find a fast food joint. read more

Finally found our perfect Kitchen table here. It was only a matter of time and patience. Of course, we found it here! Mind you, we have gone ALL OVER to find what we wanted, and found nothing that suited. Perfect size, and it matches both our kitchen floor in style, and our chairs in color, too. Love this place!! I have gone a few times and I purchased a bureau from them. They let me have it at the lower price 5 days early from the date they were supposed to lower the price!! They have great quality furniture! Great Customer service. They have an outdoor area where they sell patio furniture and outdoor storage. Two massive rooms filled with different couches, rugs, accent furniture and tables...Coffee tables and dining room furniture...bed sets, bathroom sinks silverware, jewelry...EVERYTHING!!! If my house wasn't already overstuffed with furniture, I would so shop here to help fill it. They had an original Hoosier cabinet for a price that was so low, I think they might have typo'd & left off a digit! Mostly large furniture with a wide assortment of wall hangings like paintings, prints etc. A couple of cases with jewelry and a small selection of glassware on shelving. Not a ton of smalls which is really all I can buy since my house is so fulla stuff. I'll reiterate the comment about the bathrooms since I had to run across the street in search of a facility before I could even *think* about shopping. But if someone mentioned they were looking for a unique furniture piece, I'd definitely tip them off to this place. read more

There is a variety of merchandise here including some nice furniture, but the prices are not especially good. Yes, better than at a furniture store, but the items are used. I went in looking for a small lamp but most accessories were clunky or overly ornate. I would have given two stars, except right near the entrance was a big Sambo figurine. How do you not know this is offensive? Not just the items for sale but the attitudes as well are old fashioned here. read more

I'm highly disappointed with this place. As my mother and I walked in, there were 3 employees at the desk and not 1 of them said hello or goodbye. My fiancé and I came here in search of a couch! We were a little let down by the selection as we drove over an hour to get to this spot. Which is why I knocked off a star. HOWEVER the other 4 stars are credited to the very unique and well priced vintage items this establishment held. So we bought and renovated our last house and when our teenager moved out, we thought "Gee, what a great time to buy an even larger house to renovate!". Doh. Fast forward, with the renovations coming to an end, we are trying to furnish the house, but without going to a big-box, commercial furniture store and buying one of the prepackaged "sets" of anything. (We don't want our house to look like a Jordan's Furniture ad, not that there is anything wrong with that, but we prefer a bit more organic look --- you know, like the house is lived in!). We've been all over NE with limited luck. Estate sales, hit or miss. Antique stores are either junk or way overpriced questionable quality antiques. We found this place by accident. Every time we visit, we end up buying something. Couches. Wing chairs. Gaming table. Desk for my office. Chairs, etc., etc. We've honestly not found one store that we can keep going back to and find something, every, single, time. Things to be aware of: 1. There is a delivery charge. I don't think they will waive it, irrespective of what you spent --- although, I never asked if they would --- maybe they will? 2. They don't want to hold on to your purchase any longer than they have to --- a bit inconvenient if you don't have a way to get it home *right now* but they need the floorspace to make money. Bring your SUV or your son-in-law and his truck. 3. As with any store, beware of those items that are "antiqued" but aren't really antique. 4. There is a rewards program, so you earn "points" to apply to a new purchase. 5. If you ask, they will often give you the discounted price ---- items drop in price every few weeks. 6. The guy we have bought most of our stuff from still doesn't remember us. It's a game each time we go! Go see the store, if nothing there is a great restaurant around the corner and it's a scenic drive. As soon as my Amex stops smoking I am sure the wife will want to make another trip to see what else we need! read more

Huge, clean, attractive showrooms where the furniture is arranged by room settings, like a furniture store. More contemporary, interesting items than at similar stores. read more

I used to live 400 ft away from this store and I drove by it soooo many times, always wondering what it was all about. Finally, I went in and I'm glad I did. They have great pieces of furniture and the owners are very polite. Good prices and if you have pieces of furniture you don't want but, could be great additions to someone else' home, they are happy to help you sell them (for a small fee). When I first walked into Gallery 56, I got that adrenaline rush that only those of us that know a great thing when we see one can get. Being a consignment store junkie, I knew I hit the jackpot. It's beautifully displayed and easy to walk around in. Large windows shed natural light in an old brick building that adds to the old world charm. Unlike ANY consignment shop, I have been in, this is the best one I've been in to date. Gorgeous pieces, great prices..the owners are discriminating in what they accept. "Consignment" seems like the wrong word for this store, Gallery..yes. It is a charming vintage gallery. Ok, seriously? It is worth the drive! The space is fantastic - I love how the tags tell you when and how much the next mark down will be. A great variety of items: modern, vintage, antique. Faux items clearly marked, great prices. I can't say more than other yelpers have! The only weirdness is the parking - you have to go through a gravel driveway to exit...which is just odd! I consigned items at Gallery at 56. First, had to sign a 3-month contract. I was told I had 30 days after the contract to pick up any unsold items. After I signed the contract, the Gallery priced my items. Their prices were very low: they estimated my items at about $307. I would have thought at least $600, but I was not allowed approve any pricing. Each month I got a check but I was disappointed only my less expensive items sold. I received about $77 total. After 3 months, I went to pick up my unsold items valued at over $200 dollars (Gallery value); they were all gone! The owner Nancy told me everything had been sold and I would get a check next week. After 3 weeks and after 5 phone calls, she finally called and told me I would be getting a check for about $9, in spite of what she told me about the 30 days and my items being sold, she now said the pickup period was only 10 days and that all my "unsold" items had been donated to charity. Gallery at 56 might sell great stuff, but people who shop there should know that they cheat their consignors. read more

My niece lives in Clinton. I commented on some cool things in her apartment & she told me that they came from the Consignment Gallery at 56. So...off I went!! I love, love, love Vintage 50's kitchen furniture & there was this entire kitchen...yes! table, chairs, cabinets, countertops...in that very cool chrome & lemon yellow color. On the pluses: + spacious (not like a crowded junk shop that some places are) + clean + good prices on most things (some prices are higher but those are because the consignor required them to be) + mix of vintage and contemporary + esp. good for furniture and art + 'stock' turns over pretty quickly so a once every 5-6 week trip is worth it + free parking out front A few things I'd improve: - Parking is limited; also, I'd put a sign to tell people how to exit the lot (it goes over dirt and RR tracks) - I'd put a bell near the back corners as we had to walk to find people to answer questions - Staff is a bit lacking in personality (and it may have been the owner); be a be more gregarious (the man was helpful our 2nd trip and offered to put the things we were carrying up be the registers- thanks) - I'd actually suggest taking in a bit more inventory - Have a chair or two for folks waiting for others Worth the drive. I have bought and consigned here. It's nice to stop in and browse...sometimes good stuff and sometimes nothing for me. I would be caution on consigning here, the owner isn't a great communicator. I had purchased a nice table and chairs (non-brand name) and paid $$$. But when consigning a Broyhill bedroom set (head board, foot board, side dresser, 9 drawer dresser with mirror & armour) I didn't get ANY thing I excepted. They did pick it up from my house and did damage the furniture some. And when I discussed this with the owned she would not considered upping $$ because it was "used" (I did not except thousands but more than a couple hundred). So that's why I'm only giving 2 stars....shopping is nice but consigning not so much! And the kicker is, I also sent curtains in and received a call 3 months after drop them off that they needed to be laundered because they were dirty. And I did not drop them off dirty! read more

I drove 45 minutes to come to this place, but left after 10 minutes, sadly. Why? No restroom for customers. I may be generalizing a bit here, but when the clientele is probably middle~aged and above, it makes sense to have facilities. Three stars means "a ok" but I'd say this place is just ok. It is spacious, and things are laid out nicely but not really a ton of stuff. Which is a pro and con . There was nothing in bad shape or crappy, but I thought the selection was kind of ho hum. You won't find much there that is particularly unique. It's more like 10 year old, well maintained mid-range furniture. I was hoping for more antiques or one of a kind pieces. There were a couple nice 1920's cabinets I saw, and one cool mid century Bassett hutch, but that was it. Overall I thought the prices were a little on the high end. Do not buy here. The owners like to change the price on things that are clearly marked, when they think the price on the tag is not enough. The very first time we went there from New Hampshire this happened to us. This is illegal and we filed a complaint with the State attorney Generals Office and Consumer Protection. read more

My mom uses this place all the time to sell old furniture and buy old furniture. They have a nice selection and the stuff they sell is in very good shape. Also,when my mom is done with a chair, she can take it there and get a check in the mail for something she doesn't want anymore, anyway. This is a clean place with really good stuff! This is such a great place to browse antiques and consigned items! There is a lot of furniture here, which I really enjoyed. I purchased an ottoman at a very reasonable price and an antique sign. Like the previous reviewer said there is quite a bit of quality furniture to be had at great prices (we bought a nice quality kitchen table and chairs for about $160 and they delivered it for $5!!). My girlfriend also bought a bunch of nick nack kind of stuff (also at good prices) that worked well for filling in the gaps of a big empty apartment. read more

I sold items at this shop once with no problem, and decided to try them again when we sold our home. My own experience tells me that this shop is better at handling a few pieces rather than a large collection of items. I would advise consignors to get EVERYTHING in writing, especially if selling big-ticket items, as their contract agreement is very vague. They deducted a fee from my earnings ($50) for disposal of boxes without telling me. On another occasion they charged me $75 because someone helping me put some broken down boxes in their compactor. They deducted more for their pickup fee than they originally quoted. They would not provide me with a list of the prices that my items sold for until I was forced to have the BBB intervene. They discounted my items excessively, without my knowledge or permission, before the end of my 90 day consignment period. I am well aware of the consignment process, however, if I'd known that they were going to discount my Christmas collectibles 80% I never would have brought my things there to sell. read more

Be VERY careful here. I consigned some items and at the end of the consignment period went back to get the items not sold. They seemed really annoyed that I was picking up my items that had not been sold. They told me most people just abandon them (forget, are too old to remember, or to busy). So I searched for my things, found most, but not a pair of sterling silver candle sticks, which they said must have been stolen. I suggested that perhaps they forgot to credit me when sold, they scoffed. Said they would get back to me but never did. These folks are deceitful IMHO. I can see now that they make a profit on your items after 90 days, when you fail to come and retrieve them. I won't consign here again. Think about using ebay to sell, you get to actually keep 90% of the sale price. This place gives you something like 50%. Both antique dealers and consignment shops depend on folks forgetting their items, not following up, etc. They are not an honest bunch. No wonder ebay is doing so much better than your local antique shop. read more

It really is as good as all the other reviews say it is. Lovely old brick building with all of the merchandise organized and displayed like a high end antique store. Lots of interesting vintage jewelry in the display cases as you enter the gallery. And the furniture and decorative items are, well, let's just say someone has a very good eye and discriminating taste. Beautiful things in every room and all very affordably priced. A range of styles. I purchased a hollywood regency/deco(sort of a hybrid) style mirrored console for about 1/4 of what it is really worth based on my search for 2 years for something similar. Also purchased 2 convex/ fish eye style round mirrors with beautiful burled walnut surrounding them-very large, substantial pieces and got them both for less than one should cost. And yes, the owners are willing to consider reasonable offers for the merchandise below the listed price. I have to reign myself in from returning weekly. If it were around the corner I'd be broke. read more
