Kothu roti

Good place for kothu roti. If u are willing to give srilankan food a try do visit this place. Let them know the spice level they will take care of it.

Chicken biryani

I love the chicken biryani here. It is one of my fav places for chicken biryani takeout. The service is quick and the food is delicious. They dont take credit card which makes it a bit difficult but the food is reasonably priced and they will modify the spices to your liking. The portions are generous and typically food for 2 people. They also have other appetizer sri lankan food. Their mutton curry and roti is also really good

Egg and onion roti

Great service and yummy food! I came in on Sunday around 630pm. Lineup was close to the door, but mind you, this place is very small. There were about 6 other people in there waiting. They don't have any proper menus listed on the walls so it's good to go to their website to check what you'd like. When it was my turn to order, I told them I've never been here before and that I don't know what to order (I don't know the full names of things, but I do love Tamil food. One of my roommates in college was Tamil and I'd eat everything!). They gave me options and I ordered the chicken kotthu roti and 2 egg/onion rotis. He made sure I wanted extra spicy twice which I did. I made some friends while waiting about 7-9 minutes which was nice. What was even better is that this place is cheap! It was a massive portion of the kotthu ($6.50) and the roti ($1.50 each) was thick and big as well. I grabbed a Diet Coke and my total came up to $12! I also saw on the website/listed on the wall that spring rolls are 5 for $1 and their small patties are 3 for $1. I just moved in close by and will be here for a few months so I will definitely be coming back!

FOOD: I come here often and order food. Usually the vegetarian kothurothi and appetizers such as rolls, vadai, spring rolls and more! Amazing kothurothi and you can ask them to make it spicy or less spicy depending on what you like. They have a variety of food and a lot of vegetarian options. One kothuroti can feed up to 1 to 2 people. PLACE: Small place made for takeout or catering. CALL IN AND ORDER if you don't want to be stuck waiting in line. They are the busiest on Fridays and the weekends. PRICE: $-$$ cheap and affordable! One kothurothi costs only $5

Interesting menu without prices for the most part

Delicious food but service is a little odd. No menu but prices are very good. We had the chicken and mutton kothu rotis and 3 mutton rolls for 16 flat. I suggest a mutton roll to try but otherwise, the kothu rotis were super tasty. Beware because they use a lot of green chilies. No sitting room so take out only!

lamb biryani with a piece of chicken $9. Tasted like hakka to be honest!

I really tried…read moreto like this place but I should have be suspicious with them keeping most dishes outside the chafing trays. Even the "hot food" wasn't really being heated enough to keep food at a safe temperatures. Food is cold (lukewarm at best) when served. The food looks like it's been left out all day and keeps getting reheated every day for a few days until it's all sold. Check out my photos (not their marketing photos). Secondly, there is a communication barrier with servers over the 2 days I had visited. I persisted to order $6.49 curry special but I don't know if the server wanted to push out his old food not selling but he ended up selling me more food I wanted and charged $12.xx plus tax. At that price I got 1 non veg and 4 veg on rice. But they didn't even give me the salad advertised on the menu that's suppose to come with the meal. I didn't complain because I wanted to build a relationship with local businesses but after the fact with food poisoning, I have to write this. Disclosure: I do eat south Asian joints a lot even in hole in the wall places so my body can handle a lot just not here. I recommend folks go to Babu's instead where they keep food hot.

We simply picked couples of dishes to go along with their brown rice. It is very special with soft and round texture. Their curry is flavorful - spicy yet delicious. It really pains me to write such a poor review because I used to love this place so much. It's…read morereally gone downhill - maybe a change in staff/chef, but the food just isn't the same anymore. We used to love getting their Mac and cheese mutton rolls - they used to be so flavourful and a great fusion short eat. We were in the area and got their Mac n Cheese Mutton Rolls as well as their Butter Chicken Rolls and I can't express how disappointed we were. The Mac n Cheese Mutton rolls were underwhelming - it was as though they just added macaroni pasta to the mutton curry filling. It wasn't cheesy/creamy like it used to be. The filling was also underseasoned - missing salt, just not flavourful at all. The butter chicken roll was okay, again underseasoned. For $2.50 a roll, I expected a LOT better. We also got the Chicken Briyani. It didn't come with all the fixings like the Briyanis used to - no boiled egg, no fish cutlet. The rice was bland - almost like it was just rice and turmeric. The chicken curry was underseasoned like the rolls, not enough salt or flavour. The tandoori chicken leg was the only decent thing from this meal. The meal was disappointing, I regret buying it. Lastly, we got the viral banana pudding. I fell in looooove with banana pudding since I first had it from Confused Kitchen. This time, it wasn't bad but it wasn't the same. There weren't enough vaippan pieces and it wasn't as creamy as when it first came out. Again, I think they may have changed chefs because it's very obvious that the quality of food isn't the same as it used to be. I want to be able to give it another chance but I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.

Canbe Foods is a cafeteria style takeout restaurant. All the food is already prepared you can pick and choose whatever your heart desires. Canbe Foods is my go to spot for samosas. They have multiple locations (thank goodness), for all your potluck needs! With 20 veggie samosas for $5 it's a deal you can't ignore. All their fried foods are amazing not to mention they also have a frozen section so you're able to buy items in bulk to make a home! However, because it is cafeteria style, there is no way of actually knowing how long the food has been sitting there for. So stray away if you don't have a iron stomach. But for the strong, Canbe is a great, affordable takeout joint. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area! 3.1/5

They sell lots of cheap Indian snacks…read more Veg, Chicken & Mutton samosas were ok. Their flavour profiles were similar - curry - but the meat ones had palpable amounts of meat inside (given that they are more expensive, this is expected). The cheese & spinach samoas were good. They come in sets of 5 & can't be ordered singly like the rest. They had a good cheese taste & seemed to be all spinach & cheese (no filler). They were not spicy. Sweet onion roll was good. The filling was slightly cut with extra folds of dough inside, though it was still tasty. Fish Cutlet was ok. It had a peppery taste & was a bit too peppery. At least that gave it a different flavour profile from the samosas. Mango lassi was cheap but very thin, with a weak mango flavour. While they have value combos (4 samosa or 2 rolls with mango lassi), not just is there no flexibility (e.g. you can't get 2 samosas & 1 roll), they cost more than ordering the items individually. Go figure.

Social media had done its work, flooding my feed with the golden bowls of appa from Colombo street stalls and rooftop eateries across the island. The question was whether this unassuming Scarborough plaza outpost could answer that call. It could, and it did. Hopper Hut occupies a modest space tucked into a nondescript strip mall on Ellesmere Road -- a setting that makes no architectural promises and need not. The dining room at the back is functional and warmly utilitarian, evoking the no-frills confidence of a kitchen that trusts its food entirely. The atmosphere is decidedly casual, bordering on spartan, yet there is something deeply familiar and unhurried about it -- a kind of timeless, neighbourhood authenticity that more polished establishments spend years trying to manufacture. The hoppers themselves are the undisputed centrepiece, and they deliver with conviction. Fermented rice-flour batter, lacework-crisp at the edges, yielding and softly chewy at the bowl's centre -- the texture is precisely what the form demands. One is advised, however, to receive them with immediacy: like all great bread, the hopper is a creature of the moment. The short journey home diminishes their crispness in a way that no reheating can fully redeem. Plan accordingly.
