I've been going to Gary's for over a year now for maintenance and repair on both my wife's Rav4 and my Audi A4. I have been very pleased with both the quality of service and prices. I found garys while searching Google (sorry yelp) looking for independent auto shops that could fix import autos. Garys had great reviews and when I took the rav4 for a new water pump the price was 30% lower than the oil change place that called out about 5 extra repairs needed. Gary's explained to me the 2 actual repairs needed and why the other 3 weren't. I recently took my A4 in for a timing belt replacement which is no small feat with an Audi. Not only did they quote the lowest price and do a great job, when I came back a couple weeks later asking for advice on a brake job I was doing myself I was allowed to speak directly with a mechanic there who offered the correct advice and even offered to stop by and take a look at my work. I brought my car into get a simple AC coolant recharge. I get a call back saying that a seal that had just been replaced was bad. I said okay, just fix it. I picked the car up, and an hour later another seal blew. (Suspicious) . They fixed it, and then gave the car back. I drove it for a week, and then the whole AC system went down. I took it back and ask them to look at it. They said oh, the AC compressor is blown. It's not our fault. I took it to another shop in Lakewood and had them fix it. The coolant had been overfilled by 25 %, which caused the seal to blow. There was no oil (which should have been replaced) in the AC Compressor, and that caused the AC compressor to sheer and freeze. The end result cost me 835.00 in addition to the 200.00 that Gary's charged me. I tried to talk to Dan the owner, and he said: "Your accusing us...". Then he accused me of trying to defraud him.. Ridiculous. Well Dan, I have the paperwork from your shop, and the paperwork from the shop that correctly repaired the vehicle. So we'll see you with the Better Business Bureau, or in Court. On 5/27/11, Gary's Auto at 1216 Santa Fe Drive, Denver CO 80204 serviced our 1-ton passenger van. Their work was timely and priced fairly (for the work required). They even fixed a leak in the EVAP system (hose leak) and did not charge us for it. We would definitely use Gary's Auto again. read more

These guys were great! Had a rattle going on and they discovered the bold that holds my brake caliber on had fallen out. Needless to say, not safe to drive. They drove to pick up the part so I could get back on the road. And they charged a very reasonable price. I'm always nervous about taking my car in because I think they'll just gouge you for things you don't need. But I think I finally found a shop I can trust. read more

Overall great mechanic - these guys have always done a great job and been very honest and friendly. Perfect location close to downtown to leave the car and walk to work for the day. I highly recommend Gary's Auto Service. This is the only place I have been where I feel like they are always more than fair, honest, willing to explain things to me in detail, and will explain all costs. My husband is a little suspicious about places, so he did the research the first couple of times we went here, and he always found Gary's charged an extremely fair rate. I always feel they give it to me straight too. They will tell me how important it is to fix something and the urgency of the issue. Love this place. My fuel pump died so I had my car towed to Kellers. Kellers wanted a ton of money to fix so I called around and Gary's gave me a really fair price. I had my car towed there (yea triple A), they fixed it, left it for me to pick up over the weekend, did everything by phone, and made everything super easy. I haven't had a single problem since. They were friendly, helpful, affordable, did good work, and will be my go-to place from now on. read more

I thought I could trust this place. Since when are oil changes over 50 bucks??! I didn't ask for anything special! Rediculous prices for a 20 min service. The guy who was at the counter was not too friendly and when asked about the price all he said was "its been that price for 5 years now." I think his name is Dan. This is the most honest and fair mechanic shop I've been to.. period. The owner is very decent, you can trust him to fix anything, and if anything was done incorrectly he will fix it at no charge and go above and beyond to fix little things at no charge to the customer. I have a '96 Jetta that needed a front axle replaced, and Gary's charged HALF of what Midas and Conoco were wanting. Gary's also supports the Santa Fe Arts District, and has a small gallery inside the shop. Really cool for a mechanic's shop. The last time I went in for an oil change, the owner had extra bagels he offered to us, coffee, and a ride to work if needed. Not only great customer service, but a very personable and explains in detail the suggested repairs without making you feel completely ignorant - even if you are :) Check it out! read more

Took my car in for brakes and the quality of the work was good, but be careful about how they charge you. I was in a hurry to get out of there and didn't really think about how they charged until afterwards. Most shops charge for the actual labor, this place gives you a labor charge for each job done on the car. So I had my car in for the front and rear brakes plus an oil change each had their own labor charges on the invoice, I probably ended up paying 10 - 15% more for the work than another place. I am sure that if you were just getting one job on the car it would be fine, but just be careful about this. read more

Gary's is the best mechanic shop in Denver hands down! I've been taking our cars there for years and they are always very up front and honest. As a result I've gotten to know them. A true locally owned shop. Dan runs such a great ship and treats his team well and it shows! Most recently, our newly purchased SUV was having digital dashboard issues. I took the car in and Vong spent about 80 minutes on it. He found the problem and fixed it... And even better, said this time was on them and sent me off free of charge!! What a great experience! I was visiting from out-of-town and my boys and their less-than-stellarly maintained vehicles are recent transplants. With the boys'significant Ford Ranger and Nissan 350Z problems and not knowing who to trust with the repairs, I took a chance with Gary's Auto Service after reading some good on-line reviews. Bad Customer Serivce and way over priced for the work they do, half the time it's not even done right! I had to take my car back 3 times before they got it done right! I would never go back or send anyone I knew there. If you like to spend a ton of money and get bad work done on your car please take it there. read more

The good thing first: they refunded my money. I took my car there in the summer to get the air conditioning fixed. I took it back 3 times, as it never worked. Finally, on the fourth time, exasperated, I asked for my money back...I was surprised that they did, and kudos on that. Then I took it to a "chain store" mechanic, and they pointed out the problem was an obvious leak in the line that they discovered in about 2 minutes. It has worked ever since. Dealing with Gary's is fine, they are nice and professional. On A/C for Subarus...I'd steer clear though. read more
