Hands down the best service I've ever had when servicing my car. Gary's Auto Service is top notch. I recently failed an emissions test and had no idea why. I brought my car to Gary's Auto, they immediately checked out my car, let me know know my options, fixed the issue at a super affordable price, and called me the same day to get my car. They even told me that if the check engine light comes back on, that it could be another problem they were considering, and that I'd need to get a test at a different shop (they provided me with the name and the number of another shop that definitely does this test so I didn't have to call around). I really appreciated that they told me like it was and that they were so helpful. Top reasons why I love Gary's Auto Service: 1. Honest repairs - they will tell you flat out what's wrong, how they can fix it, and if they can't fix it they will refer to another trustworthy shop that can 2. All Walk-ins - Since they don't take appointments, it's so much easier to walk in with an issue and to get quick service. My dealership and one other shop couldn't even look at my care for almost a month. I drove right up to Gary's, they immediately took my key and told me they could check it out and offer recommendations that evening. 3. Speed - they diagnose issues quickly and repair the issues quickly. They also give you a realistic timeframe. The only real delays are waiting for parts (that's not on the shop though), and even then, they tell you accurate timeframes and turnaround. 4. The amazing staff - from the friendly front desk staff to the mechanics - Gary's Auto Service has the best staff. I appreciate that they are nice, honest, knowledgeable, and communicative. Going to a mechanic is something I truly dread but Gary's made the experience so easy-- they recommended Big Toe Towing to help me get my car in which was very helpful and once they had my car it took them no time to look at it and contact me! Had to get my car towed overnight to Gary's when I broke down in a snowstorm, and they were able to look at it right away and get me a quote fast. This is a long overdue review on this place. A few years ago I was having problems with my car, it was shutting down randomly in the middle of the highway while driving. My father is a mechanic but he lives very far north in Colorado so I was unable to take my car to him, I was advised by a friend to take it to Gary's auto. When the mechanic was trying to diagnose my car- he was throwing me solutions that he wasn't sure would fix the problem. He wanted to charge me for these unsure services that didn't seem to follow the symptoms of my car. Once again I ran everything past my father who is a mechanic. They finally gave me an acceptable diagnoses with my car, I ran it past my father who said that the symptoms of my car matches what they said was wrong. My father gave me an acceptable amount they should charge me for it, even gave them an extra $50 cushion to charge me for the service, because the mechanic has to to make a living too! The price they quoted me for the repair was WAY beyond the normal charge, not even in the same price range. I politely told them I would not be using their service and that I would like to retrieve my car. They left my car out on the street with a drained battery (Had the battery replaced the week before so I knew that wasn't a bad battery) and they left trash in my car. They tried to scam me of my money, and completely disrespected me. Never again will I go to this shop. read more

Woke up On the first wintry day in Denver to find my heater was not working and went in to a panic. As a newbie to the area I went off a friend's recommendation and called Gary's. They don't accept appointments but the owner, Dan, was very friendly and honest about their schedule for the day. They charge $120 for diagnostics which is waived if no issues are encountered and also if you choose to move forward with repairs. I dropped my car off in the morning and Dan called me several times throughout the day to update me on the diagnostics and what the mechanics were learning about the issues with my car. Once they figured out what was wrong Dan was upfront with me about the prices and then sent a mechanic out to find the part at an impound lot for 90% cheaper than the dealers estimate. And to top it off my heater now works better than before! Honest service, friendly knowledgeable staff and convenient downtown location. I'll be back for sure! read more

I walked in hoping to get a oil change, and the guy sitting in the front did not even acknowledge someone had just walked in their shop. I had to sit in front of his chair to get his attention, and even then, he game me the worst eye roll. rude service. I asked him to please look through my car and perform an oil change, then he said to come back in 3 hours. back in 3 hours, he gave me a charge of 94 dollars for the oil change. It was synthetic oil, yes, but never have i been charged 94 dollars for it. there were no changes he made to my vehicle. looking back, i should have asked then why the 94 dollars, but i had been on a rush by then, and not sure of the pricing of these services until i asked my friends after getting home. in conclusion, not recommended. read more

They've helped me out on countless occasions and gone above and beyond to fix what was going on with my car. One time I ran over a house key and seemingly punctured my tire - the Gary's crew checked my tire for leaks and didn't charge me a dime for their time and service after discovering that the tire was intact. I took my car to Gary's because it wouldn't start. Turning the key did nothing, not a sound, nor a dim light, and my research online suggested it was either a dead starter or the clutch had fallen out. I got it push-started and drove it straight to the nearest mechanic, Gary's. After describing the problem, the man there (Yheng?) said it sounded like a starter. I gave him my key and he went to look at it. He came back about a minute later and said it wasn't the starter; it was the floor mat. The mat was stuck under the clutch pedal, so it wasn't going down all the way, so the car never got back to neutral, so it couldn't start. I could have easily spent a lot of money before someone figured out the easy solution, but this guy found the problem immediately and had me on my way in minutes for free. read more

Lied about repairs needed saying I had over 2,400. in leaks to fix, but none were needed. Ended up after cleaning the areas that were supposed to be leaking but showed no oil again, had to find the real leak. Finally figured when I had an oil change done at another location, they forgot to put the o ring back on the plug so I was leaking oil that was all over. Was told by Gary's mechanic also that a spark plug was broken off. Because I was suspect from gaskets and cam seals not needed, I changed all the plugs with a friend myself and not one single plug was broken. Dan will go out of his way to come up with very reasonably priced solutions and you do not have to worry about him doing unnecessary work to drive up the bill. We recently had our rear bumper fixed and were thrilled with the result, as well as with the final bill. Came here to get my oil changed, brakes checked, and wipers replaced. Glad to have found an honest auto-mechanic, which are hard to come by! Dan, the owner, and his team (including the dog!) were very upfront and friendly. Appreciated them telling me that my brakes still had some time and did not need to be replaced just yet. I feel so fortunate to have found Gary's Auto Service, and would highly recommend them for any type of car trouble. I have been going to them for all of my car needs for about two years now (it's been under new management for about three) and Dan and the crew have always provided exceptional customer service! In the past, I felt that some mechanics who worked on my car would add unnecessary services to drive up the total price, or try to sell me on services that I didn't need. That has never been the case here. I feel as "at home" as possible and completely comfortable with the shop and their knowledge base. They have always completed work on my car in a timely manner and stand by the work that they do. We took our vehicle in to have the thermostat put in (put in a weird spot and not just anyone can get to it, you need special tools and knowledge of where it is). Turns out, the thermostat was working great, it needed new hoses that had to be special ordered. They didn't do anything unnecessary to our car and I left will fill confidence that the car was 100%. These guy's are great, I had '72 Chrysler with an ignition problem. I had the car towed there and they were able to fix it in a day. Dan told me there would be a diagnostic charge before they started work on the car. They were able to remedy the problem during the diagnostic process so there were no additional charges! I was in Denver from Boston recently and needed to find my daughter who had recently moved there, a car. I located a used car, but didn't want to buy it without getting it checked out. Someone recommended Gary's and since I really didn't know anyone in Denver, I decided to go there and have them take a look before purchasing it. I'm so glad I did. The team at Gary's went through the car from top to bottom and checked everything out. They mentioned it would need brakes down the road but that everything else checked out fine. They also recommended new headlight lenses which we decided to get. Gary's ordered the lenses and installed them while my daughter waited. What a great service. The staff at Gary's couldn't have been nicer and more honest to an out of town first time customer. Not sure why a few of the other reviews had some negative things to say. If Gary's treated an out of towner so well, why would they short change a local customer? Must have been a misunderstanding of some sort. Highly recommended. read more

I have had mixed experiences with Gary's Auto, it's cheap for simple things, and deceptively cheap for big repairs. However there is little to no quality control. Gary himself is a nice guy, but his staff needs to be replaced. I've had to go back several times for jobs that weren't done correctly or blatantly done wrong. Of course, you'll never know until you go to a different mechanic and shows you what occurred. Since moving away, I've had the exhaust system of the car replaced (again) because Gary's mechanics put the oxygen sensors in the wrong spots and secured them with (I'm not kidding) chicken wire. I paid Gary substantial cash to have this done once, and the fact his people didn't know what oxygen sensor needs to go where destroyed the second one, costing more to replace. Gary's auto has also done a 'tune up' on my car. This includes replacing the fuel filter. Simple enough. Fast forward a few months and my car won't start one morning, with a pool of fuel on the rear passenger side tire. I get it towed to a different mechanic and he cannot believe what he sees--even he's discussed of the safety procedures violated. Gary's mechanic broke the high-pressure fuel connector to the fuel filter, and jury-rigged it with a plastic zip tie. This is a problem for several reasons: 1) the mechanic didn't replace the part he broke, 2) the plastic zip tie was so close to the exhaust it's a miracle it didn't melt, causing fuel to hit the red-hot exhaust and explode, and 3) they put me on the road in this car. The Mechanic I went to said 'I'm shocked this car hasn't exploded' and was disgusted a mechanic would be so reckless. Again, gary himself is a good guy--but the lack of quality control, respect for people's time, of his poorly trained technicians, I cannot recommend this shop to anyone else. Any savings up front I've spent three fold in costs to get things right I'd gladly pay more for peace of mind and safety. Go at your own risk. read more

I brought my vehicle in to diagnose the ABS, Stability Control, and Traction Control Lights. I was told that the wheel speed sensor in the right rear wheel hub assembly was bad and received an estimate for the work, ~$420. When I questioned the price I was hung up on. I called back and explained that I just wanted to understand the cost. The part for the job was quoted at $250, not a bad price compared to the dealer price, ~$368, but high compared to aftermarket price, ~$65. I was told that they wouldn't use a cheap part, fair enough. As I walked out of the shop, overall I was quite satisfied with the service I received (except for the hang up), but the cost was just too high for my budget. So I decided to do the repair myself. I picked up the part on the way home for $50+tax. I got home and put the vehicle on jack stands, removed the wheel (5 lug nuts), removed the brake caliper (2 bolts), removed the wheel hub assembly (3 bolts), disconnected the sensor connector, and put the new hub assembly back in, and buttoned it back up in reverse order. Twenty-five minutes later I was done with the job. Here's my first issue, I was quoted ~$170 for labor. It took me 25 minutes without a lift and never doing this job before. Doing the math, they are charging upwards of ~$340/hr!!!! On to my second issue. After finishing the job, I took the vehicle for a test drive and found that all of the lights were still on!!! At first, I thought maybe I replaced the wrong rear wheel hub assembly. So I ripped both sides apart and swapped the parts out. This time it probably only took about 15 minutes per side (shallow learning curve). However, this still didn't fix the issue. After all is said and done, the problem ended up being a disconnected wheel speed sensor on one of the front wheels. Reconnected the sensor, lights goes off and ABS works again!!! The worst part of this all is that the part that Gary's told me was bad is still on the vehicle!!! Shame on Gary's! read more

They looked at the car and realized the whole exhaust system would need to be replaced for over $1,000, or they could refer us to a local shop that specializes in mufflers who could fix just one part of the system for $100. We went to the muffler specialist they referred us to, and Gary's didn't even charge us for diagnosing us the problem. They saved us hundreds of dollars, and have earned our loyalty for life with their honesty and integrity. read more

He didn't like that his answers where being called out asked me to leave because I was getting upset and stated the name calling as I got in my car old man even tried to start a fight. I was a card-carrying customer of Gary's Auto when it was owned by Gary Roxbury. He ran a good business. Took my car to the new location, under new ownership for some brake work - car was only a couple years old and I'm the only owner so certain no other brake work was done on it previously. Right after my brakes started squeaking like crazy. I waited way too long to get it addressed, and didn't feel good about going back to Gary's again. Took vehicle to Community Auto Repair nearby and was told my brakes were safe, but they were squeaking because the front rotors were machined below specs and that the cheapest possible pads were used. The only way to stop the squeaking was to redo the work that Gary's did for another $300. So, shame on me for not dealing with the issue directly after the problem started in 2011. On a separate occasion, my husband got a $400 quote from Gary's Auto for replacing sideview mirror on a Honda CRV. Another business replaced it for 45 bucks. Do not recommend. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!! I brought my car into get a simple AC coolant recharge after having some tubes repaired by a mechanic in Avon. I get a call back saying that a seal that had just been replaced was bad. I said okay, just fix it. I picked the car up, and an hour later another seal blew. (Suspicious) . They fixed it, and then gave the car back. I drove it for a week, and then the whole AC system went down. I took it back and ask them to look at it. They said oh, the AC compressor is blown. It's not our fault. I took it to another shop in Lakewood and had them fix it. The coolant had been overfilled by 25 %, which caused the seal to blow. There was no oil (which should have been replaced) in the AC Compressor, and that caused the AC compressor to sheer and freeze. The end result cost me 835.00 in addition to the 200.00 that Gary's charged me. I tried to talk to Dan the owner, and he said: "Your accusing us...". Then he accused me of trying to defraud him.. Ridiculous. Well Dan, I have the paperwork from your shop, and the paperwork from the shop that correctly repaired the vehicle. So we'll see you with the Better Business Bureau, or in Court. We took our 4wd van to Gary's for a major brake job/undertaking. They were able to source all the parts needed for our specific 4wd conversion and stayed late in order to get it done same day for us. To be honest, none of this reflects the owner or his character...all of my praises are for the folks working that day. Ezekiel and the mechanics really worked so hard to help us out and I appreciate them endlessly. They all deserve a raise because keeping solid employees should also reflect in their salaries. I can't trust them to perform even the simplest of tasks, and they put me in an unsafe situation. After they missed a step on a routine check-up, which ultimately lead to a flat tire the following day, I decided to give them another chance since everyone messes up sometimes. The next time I went in for a routine service (oil chance and tire rotation), they failed to put all the lug nuts back on my tires. Super dangerous! After informing them, they said I could come in anytime after 9 to get it taken care of. When I came in, they did not have what they needed to fix it (even though they supposedly had gotten the part when I talked to them earlier). They sent me away and told me they'd call when the part came in. I ended up having to call them. Ultimately my safety was put at risk, and it took half a dozen phone calls and three separate trips for what should have been the simplest of services. To top it off, they didn't even take responsibility or apologize. read more

Had problems getting my vehicle started after i took it in for maintenance, my friend looked at it and said that they had incorrectly ran and soldered wires together for my ignition, and they were completely unwilling to help me after i called them and told them that they were to blame! DO NOT USE GARYS AUTO! Unhelpful, rude, and unwilling to take blame. I will never use Garys auto again. read more

I've been going to Gary's for over a year now for maintenance and repair on both my wife's Rav4 and my Audi A4. I have been very pleased with both the quality of service and prices. I found garys while searching Google (sorry yelp) looking for independent auto shops that could fix import autos. Garys had great reviews and when I took the rav4 for a new water pump the price was 30% lower than the oil change place that called out about 5 extra repairs needed. Gary's explained to me the 2 actual repairs needed and why the other 3 weren't. I recently took my A4 in for a timing belt replacement which is no small feat with an Audi. Not only did they quote the lowest price and do a great job, when I came back a couple weeks later asking for advice on a brake job I was doing myself I was allowed to speak directly with a mechanic there who offered the correct advice and even offered to stop by and take a look at my work. Thankfully that was not necessary as the advice was perfect. I would highly recommend Gary's Auto. read more

Drove across town to drop my car off the following morning and had someone follow me so I would have a ride. I was then told that they were busy and would not be able to get to me.
