I asked was there a timeframe and was told, no, if he accepts the order he will give you a call - if he rejects I would need to call American Home Shield back. I was definitely confused.... The plumber actually called us in 20 minutes.... asking to speak to Mina...ummmm - wrong name. We called back and told him we were waiting on him to call us back - he said that he wouldn't able to get to the plumbing issues today and tomorrow was questionable.... but it's 'after hours' hence my confusion. Now I'm wondering, was him calling us a misdail? Would he have even called us back to say he couldn't come? I have children in the house & they need water. So please, what should we have done? I called After Hours specifically to ask for a free estimate on replacement. Matt arrived and insisted on looking at the unit. Within 10 minutes of arrival, he had it working again. He could have easily just sold me a water heating unit, but he went out of his way to make sure I had hot water the very same day.

I have mixed feelings about the service we were provided. Maybe we just caught Mr. Shelton on a bad…read moreday. I don't know. First, the positive: we had two leaks that we could not turn off. Mr Shelton was very responsive when we called at night to set up an appointment. We opted not to do emergency service after we were able to control the leak to a medium drip. We appreciated that Mr Shelton was prompt in his reply and honest to say that if he came out the next day, which would be a Sunday, it would be considered an emergency service. Although he said he'd schedule us for Monday afternoon, he actually came early which we also appreciated. So, bravo on that. He quickly repaired the issue including replacing the faucet and drain stopper/flange and also let us know that something that we thought needed replacement didn't need replacing but simply repacking. That cost us less to do. So good on him. The not so positive: he was a bit rushed. He "fixed" the leak and then was out the door. When we checked the work more carefully, we realized there's two leaks but now in different places. So we called and texted him. This time, no response until many hours later. In the interim, we fretted whether we had just been cheated out of an expensive repair. Mr. Shelton did return maybe around afternoon. He "fixed " the two new leaks and then left again. Things seemed ok until I checked again carefully and noticed that only 1 leak was repaired and the other leak remained. So we called and texted again and again no response until one or two hours later when he returned yet again. Finally this time, he fixed all the leaks and we made sure nothing leaked before he left. So for a relatively easy (for a professional) repair, it took Mr Shelton 3 times to fully fix. Overall, what can one say? Shouldn't we expect that a professional plumber should check his or her work thoroughly before moving on? And especially after he had to return to re-fix what he did, isn't it incumbent of him to ensure the fix is properly done so he doesn't have to return again? I wish him success in his business. I hope it was just a bad day for him. It wasn't a very good experience for us--alas. :(

Mr. Smith is prompt, professional, clearly very experienced, and efficient in his work. He is notably fair in his billing despite the fact he has more experience (30 plus years) than 80% of the fellows who are sent by more recognized firms. These firms charge far more as well, often nickel and diming for every extra action they take. We hired Joseph Rose Plumbing to replace our hot and cold water valves under our kitchen sink and…read moreto adjust our water pressure in our home. At the time, we also need a new water heater and asked them to give us an estimate for a new gas tankless water system while they were here. The two guys who showed up to do the work, were very professional, thorough and efficiant. The work that we hired them for was excellent and the cost to do this work was excellent - they were here for a couple of hours to complete the work and give us an estimate and charged us only $265. Another plumbing (Brown Brothers) company we hired to to adjust our water pressure (ONLY) a 7 months ago - were here for only 15-minutes and lowered our high water pressure way too low, charged us almost $500 - and it took them 7 months to bill us. Do not hesitate to hire Joseph Rose Plumbing for your work at your home. Also, I would like to add that the Joseph Rose technicians took pictures of ALL the work they did - before and after - and these were all included in their emailed invoice. That said, while Joseph Rose's estimate for a new gas tankless system came in a couple of thousand dollars LESS than the lowest estimate we recieved from other companies, we were very nervous about hiring them for this particular work because they didn't mention anything about pulling a city permit for the work. At the end of our discussion - the guy told us that they don't pull permits - this is the responsibility of the homeowner. He said you want us to pull a city permit for the work, it would cost $500, but a permit isn't required (for new installs and like-like-replacements). At the time I didn't realize that a city permit only costs $65 and the this work 100% requires a permit to be pulled. I found this out when I emailed Durham City inspectors to inquire. When I emailed Joseph Rose Plumbing why we were not hiring them for this job, they responded with "We install lots of gas tankless water heaters without pulling permits". Ethan did respond to my email to let me know that his office manager was new/still learning and misunderstood. If you are having plumbing work that requires a city permit - look elsewhere, none of the three other companies who gave us estimates required the customer to pull their own city permit for the work - let alone charge $500 if you wanted them to pull a permit. The $65 permit fee was worked into all other estimate invoices - we never even saw the fee.
