Not too long ago during a trip home after not having of the famous popcorn for...decades (not going to age myself; but I guess I kind of did!), I decided my brood and I weren't gonna Illinois without some Garrett sweet, sweet corn in our procession. So Pop and I made a return trip to Woodfield Mall to get some. Yes there was a line but it moved at a comfortable clip, and I able to see the choices and decide what to get. I choose large bags of Cheese, Butter and the Mixed flavors. It didn't blow my mind the way I envisioned, or was any better than movie popcorn (the ultimate!), but we did enjoy it for what it was; a (yummy) piece of Chi-Town we were able to bring back to AZ with us. I recently found a sandwich bag of it I'd saved for a rainy day (in AZ that's like once in a blue moon) and it still held up. Garrett's Popcorn; worth it. So glad we have a Garrett's Popcorn at Woodfield Mall now! It's on the main concourse outside Macy's just past the childrens play area and on the other side of the elevator. Classic mix is always the best but they have other flavors with pecans and a spicy mix now. The kernels are extra large, minimal husks and no unpopped kernels! Great place to get popcorn for the movies too. This beats driving all the way downtown Chicago and circling the block while others go in and get it! No doubt the best popcorn in the USA!! read more

The reason I went to Woodfield Mall. When a girlfriend asked me to bring some Garrett popcorn home, I stopped by this location since we were leaving the next day. (I went the day before to another location, but no one wants stale popcorn. Plus, I ate it all!) I came by on Tuesday, December 5th around 4:15pm. *Garrett Mix: CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn ($6.35 medium) *CheeseCorn ($5.90 medium) *Spend $10 add a Quart Tin for only $5 I got a medium CheeseCorn for my gf and a medium Mix for the roommate's cousin. Since I spent over $10, I just grabbed a tin for the extra $5. (I believe tins are normally $12.95.) In pink of course! (It's my favorite color.) The only weird thing was they would only put the Garrett Mix in the tin when I only wanted the cheese. The cheese one is cheaper, so not sure why they wouldn't accommodate. I also didn't see any fine print on the sign regarding this, so it was a bit of a turnoff. I don't mind the caramel one, so I got the tin anyways. It's about the size of a small bag (maybe even smaller), so not much popcorn in the tin. But they seal it and everything, so I think it stays fresher longer. I adore Garrett Popcorn, so I always try to make it a point to grab their CheeseCorn when in Chicago. This location is convenient if shopping in the mall, but I've been to friendlier ones. read more

I have enjoyed Garrett popcorn for years. However, I had a very bad experience at Woodfield Mall's Garrett's. You must have adult supervision when hiring teens. There were two people ahead of me and it took 20 minutes. They had four employees who needed additional training. The popcorn was stale ( that's never happened to me before). I asked one employee for wipes. He turned away as he answered with an eye roll stating we don't have wipes anymore. Your Woodfield mall location needs lots of help. read more

i am sorry to say that I was a little disappointed in my visit to the Garrett's that is located in the Woodfield Mall. This is a "pop up" site. I placed an on line order for pick up. I purchased a couple of Family sized tins of Chicago mix. The tins came with a free bag of popcorn when purchased on line. I was surprised that I had to check the mall map for the location of the store. There was no aroma of freshly popped popcorn. I was disappointed in the Chicago mix tins. The tins had a plastic seal and had been packed at the factory. The popcorn in the free bag was a bit fresher. The poocorn in the tins was just okay. There is nothing better than fresh Garretts. I would not recommend placing your order on line. If you want Garrett's, get an order that is freshly packed. A better option would be to go to O'Hare or one of the downtown sites. read more

Bought popcorn to use as party favors, so I purchased the popcorn the day before I was going to distribute them so it could stay as fresh as possible. From the moment I bought, the cheese popcorn just didn't taste fresh. It didn't have a stale taste to it, but it didn't have the crunch fresh popcorn has after being made. The next day it was even chewier. But the caramel popcorn held up nicely because of the caramel coating. Super disappointed, especially since I bought 3 jumbo bags. I had asked the worker if they made it in house, or if the popcorn gets shipped to Schaumburg. Surprisingly she stated it's made in a kitchen on the premises. If that's the case, popcorn should've tasted fresh. I love Garret's popcorn but the one in Woodfield mall is by far the worst tasting of all the Garrett's popcorn shops I will tell you why cause it's taste as if it's 10 days old and what I mean by that I will run it down to you. They make it look fresh and good when you buy it and when you walk outta the mall and get into your car and drive off you're happy that you got some darn good popcorn the music is playing in the car and as you get closer to home you have Garrett's popcorn smelling ever so good and you're waiting till you're home to snack on it. And when you get home you open the bag and you see what you've been smelling for the last 20 minutes of your ride home and you dig in only to grab a few kernels of cheese and caramel popcorn mixed together and the taste of good popcorn is suddenly gone a with taste like the chee-tos that a 1 year old sucked and drooled all over leaving it nearly flavorless and a nonexistent crunch that was put back in the Cheetos bag and that look will come over you face like WTF is wrong with this and why it taste like that. Well that how Garrett's in Woodfield mall taste like except no toddlers are to blame for this terrible tasting and badly sold popcorn stay away from this location or start cooking the popcorn fresh daily like the other locations read more

Almost $50 worth of popcorn yet again in the trash. We decided to give Garrett's another chance since it was a different location and apparently it doesn't matter the location Garrett's is old news. It's not the place I loved from childhood. I will say on a positive note the cheese wasn't so salty you couldn't eat it. However, the caramel still has a burnt flavor that leaves an aftertaste. Oooooh Garrett's. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves. In all my tears of having Garrett's I've never been disappointed. Even when I lived in California and had Garrett's shipped to me, it was always fresh. But today that was not the case. I have since relocated back to Illinois and my son wanted to surprise me with my favorite popcorn for my bday. Since we are literally up the street from the Woodfield Mall, where Garrett's is located he thought it would be more convenient and cost effective than having it shipped. I love his effort because he had no idea how horrible it was going to taste. The Garrett Mix taste like cheap popcorn from the store. They have literally left a bad taste in my mouth. I am never going back. My Carmel and Cheese mix will be ordered from another place where it is freshly popped and delivered. If you are not going to give the full experience, don't try to make it happen. May want to shut this location down as it appears that there are quite a few complaints. read more

It's nice to have this brand name popcorn accessible in the mall, so we don't need to drive to downtowns to get it. Although it tastes good, but it's really pricy. A large bag costs $7.50 (which really isn't large at all) If you want a large bag, should get the jumbo size, but that's $15 for a large bag of popcorn! Craziness! So this location has some rude employees. You would think that they would have a nicer demeanor considering most people that visit are looking to get a Chicago staple. I understand that it's just a little kiosk in the middle of the mall but the way that the employee treated and responded to customers was unbelievable. Walking away from people talking about them, gasping, rolling your eyes, etc shouldn't be done to any patron or for that matter tolerated by the employer. There was a gentleman in line that even spoke up as he noticed how short and nasty the workers attitude was. For that reason alone I would give no stars if I could. Normally I visit the main Garrett's location on Magnificent Mile, but I was out in the burbs for work so this location was closest to me. To appease my family - read, PLEASE them - I got a large bag of Hot Chocolate CaramelCrisp (Belgian milk chocolate coated popcorn mixed with CaramelCrisp popcorn). So delicious - the chocolate tastes luxurious and the caramel corn is a perfect accompaniment. I didn't give this location five stars for two reasons: 1. Although they had a sign for a $5 small canister with a qualifying purchase I didn't see it, so I didn't know about it until my buddy ordered it. So I had to go back up to the counter and have it added to my order. 2. The canister they gave me had a decent dent/marks on the lid so I wasn't able to give it as a gift. read more

Is there a 0.5 star? Very disappointed. I bought Garrett's popcorn at Navy Pier and always enjoyed it. When the Woodfield Mall branch opened I was very happy that it's only a few minutes drive from my house. But the last three times I bought it from there they sold me stale popcorns. You can tell that the crispness wasn't there. Even with the caramel popcorn you can tell that it's not fresh. I know in the past that Garrett's even if it's more than a day old as long as the bag was kept sealed it's still crispy. These popcorns are chewy from the minute you get them. This is another favorite place to visit while in the Chicago area. Garrett's popcorn has several varieties of popcorn but they're most famous for the Garrett's Blend aka "Chicago mix" Cheese and caramel crisp popcorn. A beautiful blend of delicious popcorn. Be sure to grab a handful of napkins as the cheese gets all over your hands. If they have wet wipes, that's also a good thing to ask for. The line was massive, I think we stood in line for about 20-30 min. This location is in a mall so there is not the fresh-made-on-site taste like other locations. This is the worse Garrett's popcorn I've ever tasted. I'm from California and Garrett's is always a treat, since I don't get to have it often. I've picked up the popcorn in Chicago, New York, and Las Vegas and have always been delighted by the amazing popcorn. It's usually my flight home treat and I usually pick up extra for friends at home. This week I had and amazing weekend my nephew Graduated from the Navy and I was looking forward to my flight home treat of Garrett's. I dropped my nephew off at O'Hare but my fight was at Midway. However, I knew I definitely couldn't leave Chicago without my popcorn. My Dad who was traveling with me was also looking forward to having butter popcorn. So we swung by the nearest Garrett's we could locate which happened to be at Woodfield Mall. I ordered 2 butter and 1 Chicago mix and was so excited to dig in. I got to my car grabbed my bag and passed a bag to my dad and we headed to Midway airport. What a disappointment the popcorn tasted like it was a few days old, it was terrible. My dad asked me if the popcorn was pre-bagged because it wasn't like what he had tasted before "it doesn't taste fresh" he said. I told him mine tasted the same and it was just gross. The airport deviation to get a Garrett's was definitely not worth it. I'm at the airport now and sorely disappointed no Garret's treat this trip and I don't think I'm going to gift my friends the extra bag. If your trying Garrett's for the first time don't try it at the Woodfield Mall you will be disappointed. If you're a regular you will know right away the popcorn isn't right. I had to toss my butter popcorn and my Dad didn't finish either, the jury is still out on the Chicago mix but judging by the butter I'm probably going to toss it too. How great is it that we now have a Garrett's in the suburbs? Three cheers and pass the popcorn! Except, it's not as good as the ones in the city. There. I said it. I wouldn't say the popcorn is stale per se. But it's not as fresh as the city locations where it's served hot and the topping is literally melting off on your fingers, but you can't resist digging into that bag despite knowing that you'll have orange digits the rest of the day. I strategically placed us near a restroom so we could wash our hands after we indulged in our Garrett's Mix. Sorry, it still sounds weird to call it that. Chicago Mix forever. Anyway. I suspect that perhaps the not-so-fresh taste is because it's not made on the premises? I dunno. It's a tiny little stand, and I can't envision that they have space to make it right there, but I don't know for sure. All I know is it didn't taste fresh. The line went pretty fast for us, and all the employees were friendly. The gal who rang me up offered to bag my small bag in a larger paper bag to prevent the wax papery bag from ripping (which I guess is a common thing). I told her it wouldn't last that long and not to bother. But sadly, we ended up tossing about 1/3 of the bag because the flavor just wasn't that great. Next time we want Garrett's we'll just take a trip into the city and leave this location to the tourists. read more

DO NOT EXPECT TO GET POPCORN THERE AS A GIFT. Went to buy a bag of popcorn for my Chicago friend who moved to LA last year as a gift who I'm going to visit tomorrow. I needed it in a sealable bag so I could put it in my suitcase and travel with it. The sealable bags cost 30 cents extra which is totally fine, but they refused to pour the garret mix into the sealable bag. (Its only for the popcorn with nuts i guess) (not sure why they couldn't pour popcorn into a sealable bag, I did pay for a jumbo by the way, at first I was thinking there was a quantity difference, but there wasn't) I'm trying to fit the bag that I got into the sealable bag but the guy is like that won't work. I ask if they could transfer it into the bag that is safe to travel with. They refuse. I ended up transferring the bags right in front of them. It was so simple. I don't get how such a famous Chicago popcorn shop is so unhelpful and rude regarding popcorn meant for a gift. They were so rude. This Garrett popcorn location in the Woodfield Mall is nice, because it's so much closer to the suburbs rather than having to visit downtown to get the popcorn. They also have a shop in the airport, but that's behind security. The line was pretty long on the day after Thanksgiving. They don't make the popcorn onsite, otherwise it would probably smell like popcorn in the whole mall, so freshness is sacrificed a bit. You still get the same great flavors that you expect. The Garrett's mix (cheese and caramel popcorn) is a delicious blend of sweet and salty flavor. The cheese popcorn is actually messier than the caramel, and it turns your fingers all orangey yellow.
