Great place to visit! It's very tiny and only 4 guests can go in at a time but they have a great selection of candy and popcorn. It's really fun to relive your youth here and get all the candy you used to eat as a kid. It's a little pricey but it's worth it! This is 5 stars for the experience and charm! I remember "driving out here" when I was a kid to meet cousins that lived out this way and since I lived closer to the city this was like a special day trip. And we lovingly called it "The Skinny Store". I loved my memories of walking single file through the tiny shop picking candy off the wall until I got to the end where they tallied it all up. Now, I enjoy bringing my kids for a Halloween season treat! And they are always keen to remind me that it's that time of year to drive to Wheaton to go. We love Kilwin's but honestly The Little Popcorn Store is more fun for them and a much better deal. The hands on "pick-your-own" format is exactly the kind of candy store autonomy a child flips for. So little we almost missed it. The popcorn is good, especially if you have never had any home popped corn. The people there are helpful and friendly. There is a limit to four people at a time or one family. It is such a unique experience to be in a store so narrow. There is a warm fresh popped popcorn smells inside. Ah, The Little Popcorn Store... a properly-named candy shop that oozes with nostalgia from my childhood. And for good reason: I used to frequent here as a child! It hasn't changed a bit and that carries a pleasant feeling of comfort. It is a hole-in-the-wall place, quite literally as it occupies an alley between two other buildings in downtown Wheaton, and can only accommodate a few people at a time. But the experience of perusing the shelves of candy and plucking individual pieces to be placed in your little white bag is like none other. The kids will love it, as it 100% caters to them (obviously, haha) and you will too. They have a vast assortment of candy and, I think the best part, freshly popped popcorn that is very, very tasty! Prices are reasonable and many a piggy bank have been emptied in order to afford that one more piece priced at a nickel. Do yourself, and any children in your life, a favor and stop over for a visit. This candy shop/popcorn store was built in an alley with a red door and some really cool not-so-see-through-but-kinda ceiling tiles. If you didn't know about this place, you'd probably walk past the red door without thinking twice about it. And even though I had been told about this place, I STILL managed to walk past it! It really is an alley. Shelves of classic candies packed with childhood memories line one brick wall, while there is enough space for one or two people to walk by it. You can grab a little white paper bag and stuff it with as much candy as you want. And the prices!? Oh, my gosh. CHEAP. Especially for an independent candy shop in Wheaton. The popcorn bags were a steal compared to movie theaters. The candy itself was cheaper than anything you'd find in the checkout aisle or bulk candy stores. This is fluffy white almost hulless popcorn that is stovetop popped in a light oil and lightly salted, pure perfection! They also have a decent selection of nostalgic candy. Very tiny store but loved the idea of buying candy by the piece for $.05, $.10, $.15, $.20. You can grab a white paper bag and fill it as you walk along the selection of "penny candy" items including some newer ones and some older ones. They also have a few different big candy bars for $1.00 each. The shining star, for me, was their fresh-popped, no butter, salted popcorn. It was very good, for not having anything except salt on it. Ooh, The Little Popcorn Store! I've gotta go in. Once inside, I wasn't sure who was working and who was shopping. Even the customers were friendly. :-) We started with the throwback candy. Some cow pokes and razzles. I asked for a skybar and a cherry mash. Not this time, but maybe again in the future. The nickel, dime, fifteen-cents-ers and quarter candies quickly filled our bags. And of course the popcorn! I smelled it before I walked in the door. I could practically taste it in the air as it was popped fresh in my midst. I had to have some. And so I do. What's not to like about a place that sells fresh popcorn and penny (well, now it's nickle and dime, and up) candy? Growing up in Wheaton, "the Popcorn Shop" as we knew it as was like a second home during our middle school years. My friends and I would frequent the shop multiple times a week to get our sugar fix. Now as an adult, I usually stop if I'm in the area. Well, except during summer and the weekends, when the line is out the door. I try to aim for a lousy weather day (cold, rainy, snowy, etc...) When I was a teenager, I would stop here and get my large popcorn ($2.50) and stuff it in my backpack, and then trek over to the movie theater. Movie theater popcorn is DISGUSTING, extremely overpriced, and terrible for you. The popcorn shop's popcorn is unique. Not too buttery, not too dry, and it literally melts in your mouth. And you can't beat the cost, either. Even the extra large is only $4.50. I will buy one and then store it in tupperwares to snack on for the work week. I'm sad to see a lot of my old school candies are gone. Much of their selection has adapted to the next generation of kids that demand more sugar and candy with odd names and enticing packaging. As one of the most iconic spots in downtown Wheaton that has survived new developments (Starbucks, etc) and the loss of old favorites (Cock Robin, 'Round the Clock diner, etc) , I certainly hope it stays around forever. Just went to downtime Wheaton and was going to check out the Little Popcorn Store. The website says it's curbside pickup only however come to find out it's CLOSED TODAY PERIOD! They are doing construction but no mention of this on the website or no sign posted outside. Needless to say, not worth another trip back. If they can't take the time to let customers or potential customers know they are closed for the day, then it's not worth my time or money to make another visit. Horrible customer service! I have a disability and so does my BF and walked around the block twice before we realized not only where the place was at but then that the place we were looking for was the place under construction and closed!!! In fact, multiple people were trying to visit the candy store only to be shocked and disappointed that it was closed!!! read more

I was told this was the place to stop when in the area!!! So today we looked up the shop and 4 daughters 18-9 read up...we were excited!!! 49" wide 60 feet long.....so cool!!! Door is cute...Took a photo!! Walked in...and seeing is believe'n!!! Then your rudely stopped approx. 20'.... as they a making the popcorn in a "sink" less than 1/2 way into the store. They aren't warm and friendly, they do not even wear cute tshirts..... They truly are just there!!! They don't wear gloves or hair ties.... Just handle the candy....and money...like the good old days. Honesty neat to see.....buy some treats...but the hype is more because kids rode there on their bikes....and now keep coming back.... nothing more than childhood memories seem to keep them going. Prices are fair....service not so much! Popcorn was yummy and inexpensive!...but ONLY 1 kind of plain popcorn"...vegetable oil and salt. There were a few small baskets of old fashioned candies on the wall. No one even acknowledged that we had walked in. One little red door, when you walk inside that's all the space you have...a doorways worth. This is a little alley way with the left side lined with all different candies. Some oldies but goodies and some of the new stuff. When you walk in you grab a little white paper bag and make your way through the store collecting your favorites. At the end they dump them out and count them up. My final cost (even with popcorn) never ceases to amaze me...this place won't break the bank. You can grab a soda or a water here too (but keep in mind there is a DQ right across the way if you need something even less health conscious). If you've read my reviews....you already know I love popcorn. They have amazing popcorn, not crazy movie theatre butter popcorn, lightly salted fresh popcorn. You probably need to try it. This place makes me feel like a little kid again....except now I have to pay for myself. But it's so worth it, and still a pretty darn good deal. The Popcon Shop (wchich is what EVERYONE calls it, I didn't even know it had 'little' and 'store') is more American than whirleyball and Fuji apple pie. I've come here after little league games, after summer camp, and pretty much every meaningful memory I've had in grade school. The store actually resides in a bricked up alley. So get used to the idea that it's tiny. There is not enough room for customers to stand shoulder to shoulder so getting in and out of the store is much like getting in/out of your seats at a packed stadium game. The candy is arranged in glass jars and cardboard boxes on long wooden shelves that span most of the length of the store. Upon entering you get a magical little white bag and you can fill it to your hearts content. Gummy worms, fun dips, bottle caps, andes mints, they got it all baby. Prices range from a nickel (yea I said it, a nickel) to a buck for the bigger stuff. Oh yeah, and in case you didn't realize it: they sell popcorn. Damn good popcorn. No it's not Garrett's but still awesome. As for the other reviewers complaints: 1) too expensive. Seriously? There is another place where you can get a bag of assorted candies for a buck? No really, is there? Candybars are 50 cents...haven't seen that anywhere else since 1989. 2) too small (claustrophobic). If it weren't wouldn't it be the The BIG ass roomy Popcorn shop? 3) No old timey candy. What about the rock candy on the doll rod, the beech nut and black jack gum at the counter, and the little juice filled wax bottles? When we were kids my dad would take my brothers to get their hair cuts at the barber shop in Wheaton. For some reason I always went with. After the hair cuts we would go to the Popcorn Store and we could each get 6 pieces of candy. Of course, back then the candy wasn't the individually packaged mini Snickers that we have today. We would each take a little paper bag and painstakingly decide which 6 confections to get. Of course, you'd want to get the best deal for your 6 items. Then we'd give our bags to the nice gentleman at the register and he'd dump them out, count them up, and tell Dad the total. You can still get some of your nostalgic candy at the Little Popcorn Store, but about half the store is pretty much what you'd find at any Walgreen's candy aisle. They still operate exactly the same way they did when I was a kid. The prices are pretty low. I've seen bigger and better selections for bulk candy at Target, I wouldn't go out of my way to get to the Little Popcorn Store, but check it out if you're in the area and feel like grabbing some sweets. I lived in Wheaton for a year in high school and during that year it became my favorite place. This popcorn store is one of the top reasons I love Wheaton so much. It's just a little hall with a door that used to be an alley : ) step 1) enter step 2) get in line (which is all you can do because there always is a line. At the end is always at the door and it takes up the whole space) step 3) tell them if you want popcorn so that it can be ready by the time you are finished choosing your delicious candies step 4) take a small brown bag step 5) slowly move towards the cashier while you pick and choose from a shelf of general store style candies (my favorites are the grapefruit flavored gummies and the red and blackberries) step 6) pay step 7) leave with candy, popcorn and the best feeling in the world! p.s. one time, a friend and I jumped into the fountain at the park a block away, collected all the quarters, and were able to purchase two whole bags of candy each from the popcorn shop.
