I came for a drive and parked right across the street and notice this place was open they have a ginormous selection of chocolate, and candy and soda pop The chocolate and caramel cover pretzels was very good I order 2 pcs of chocolates of different nuts it was for me too sweet. I however loved the fact they have old fashion candy and soda and also Christmas advent calendars and Hanukkah chocolates and character shape chocolates. For me graham chocolate of Geneva is better quality by far but to kill the tooth this old fashion kind of candy will do just fine. A little but pricy but it does it purpose sugar high read more

Just stopped in this past week to pick up a few candy apples. Their candy apples are just WOW! First, the apples were huge! Bigger than a baseball, smaller than a softball. But much bigger than your average apple. Second, the quality of the apple was excellent! Crispy, sweet, with a nice firm crunch. This is a premium apple. Lastly, the toppings were extraordinary. The homemade caramel and the chopped nuts were just perfect. I have tried lots of gourmet apples from other places, but the ones here were definitely a cut above. Really am a fan of this place! If you're not going in to buy chocolate, which is excellent, you might as well just go to Walmart. Not like the old dollar candy stores anymore everything just bagged up the same way you could buy it pretty much anywhere. If you're looking for chocolate however it's still pretty good read more

A selection of chocolates, including dark, milk and sugar free, a very small truffle selection, and lots of bulk candy priced by the quarter or half pound, including a very good Jelly Belly collection. You can find the hard candy varieties cheaper elsewhere, but the selection's very good. They carry cordials (liqueur-flavored center in a sugar shell covered with chocolate) in a couple of flavors; very nice. I like the molasses honeycomb candy, now available in dark or milk chocolate. The cinnamon creams are very tasty. Sometimes there are slightly irregular chocolates (noted on a blackboard by the cash register) available for a discount. read more

I have several huge problems with DeKalb Confectionary. Actually, several. The first is that when you walk in, the smells of the freshly-made chocolates are overwhelmingly seductive, and I could stand and sniff them for hours. The second is that the staff are friendly, extremely competent in helping to select gift boxes, and patient. Third, it's a second-generation family store. The problem with this is that the second generation maintained the high quality of the father (Tom Smith), which continues the tradition that keeps us eating their chocolate. Finally, their chocolates (they make and sell many other types of candies as well) are among the best in the state! I send many gift boxes to friends across the country, and it's unanimous: "These are exceptional!!!" And, their peanut brittle (not always available) is superb! It's fun to be there when it's all getting made. read more

I loved their large selection of licorice! This is a big deal to me because I am obsessed with the stuff and can't seem to find much out there aside from stale Good & Plenty at CVS. The staff was helpful and friendly, even giving me a piece of sponge candy to try. I also tried the dark chocolate turtle and the dark chocolate covered caramel marshmallow. Both tasted homemade and fresh, the chocolate of great quality. I was sad I couldn't bring more goodies home (hot weather, planes, and chocolate do not mix well). This is a place I will remember and definitely look forward to vising whenever I am in the area again. read more

There's nothing like walking into a store and being overcome with the smell of chocolate. What's even better is seeing the chocolate being made behind the counter. Now that's fresh chocolate. You really can't beat that. I would come here all the time, sometimes even between classes (when I only had 15 minutes), which inevitably made me late. I would get such a sweet tooth during stressful times, so The Confectionary was my savior. Not a single thing in this story is bad, how can it be, it's candy. The best is what they call a Monster, it's there take on a turtle. It's about twice the size of your fist....oh just so good. It should honestly be outlawed. read more

My best friend is obsessed with this place and always has to stop in when she visits DeKalb. She recently moved to Arizona, and I sent her an assortment of her favorite chocolates as a birthday present. There was a bit of a snafu with the shipping, and when I contacted Betsy, she was BEYOND wonderful about the whole thing! Luckily, the issue was not on our end and the whole thing was quickly resolved. But she was so concerned and helpful, and promised to make everything right. While I was relieved that everything ended up being okay, it truly meant a lot that Betsy was so willing to go above and beyond to help make my best friend's birthday extra special! The Confectionary has without a doubt gained lifetime customers in my friend and I! If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would! read more

I like that I am buying something local and not from a chain. It has its charm and the chocolate is pretty good. The selection is also great, but pricing is high. The service is better at the Sycamore location. When I go to a candy store I expect people to be nice and when asking questions about products have some joy in what they are selling not the case here. Love love love their truffles, and sponge candy made of maple syrup. That's pretty much all I get besides the non-pareils and boy it is good. I love that they allow you to taste it. We often meet our friends in DeKalb. We always end our time together by stopping in The Confectionary. The smell is heavenly & we are all able to pick our favorites, mine being the chocolate covered marshmallow with caramel on a stick. It's incredibly yummy!
