I have owned nothing but Garmin watches to record my runs and training. In fact over the past 10 years I've only had two of them. An old Garmin Forerunner 235 which lasted forever and now in the past year I upgraded to a Garmin 265. Both are terrific for my run training needs and the 265 offers many more options and information for health stats, training tips, messages, music, etc. Plus, the battery is super long lasting. Yes, the 265 is a major upgrade which offers more, and I'm still learning how to use it. Other than a few incidents when Garmin signal was down I really have not had any major problems with my Garmin watches no matter where I have recorded my runs with them, from NYC to Tokyo. read more

12/14/2023- Recently purchased and wearing the Vivoactive 4s.. I'm new to the Garmin platform, so it's taken me on a bit of learning curve. Did my due diligence, prior to purchasing.. and went with this model. What I love: the look of the watch! Especially the watch face being round- I've have all Apple Watches- so from square to round is refreshing! The watch is so light and the watch band feels great! I like how there are so many watch faces you can get and create.. Battery seems to be good, had to learn how to turn off notifications, but the charging is super fast.. I do have an IPhone- so compatibility with answering calls and texts does not happen.. which is okay, because I can focus more.. Glad I got it! If in the future- maybe one of my son's will get me the solar one.. lol! read more

Terrible company to deal with. I placed my order on 5/16/26 with a delivery date of 5/21/26 and never received my package. UPS shows a delivery exception of insufficient address and retuning to sender. My order confirmation shows my correct address which is the same as my billing address. UPS shows no update on my tracking number about it being returned. Garmin will only issue a refund when the item has been received in their warehouse. I have called customer support twice and both times a very frustrating experience. They can see that I never received my package, but are adamant that a refund will only be issued if they have the item back. Also, no one has the authority to go around this and refund me. To add insult to injury, they sent an email to start the return process for an item that was never delivered, and this was meant to be a birthday present. The CSA said they cut and paste the delivery address. Obviously this was done incorrectly by Garmin because they had my correct address. So, Garmin was paid, UPS was paid, and I paid and have nothing to show for it but frustration. read more

I'm a Class A CDL driver with over 20 years of OTR experience. I haul a 48ft Conestoga trailer at 13'6" height and up to 78,000 lbs. I've been using the Garmin Dezl 710 for 2 years, and after the recent routing database updates -- this GPS has become dangerously unreliable. Fake restrictions, real consequences The most alarming example is U.S. 95 between Marsing, ID and Jordan Valley, OR. This is a legal, state-approved truck route, used by 80,000 lb rigs every day. Yet Garmin falsely labels this segment with a 23-ton (46,000 lbs) weight restriction -- even though: * There are no posted restrictions * There are no DOT or FMCSA notices * Trucks run it daily without issue Garmin completely blocks routing through it with a standard profile. Unless I lie about my weight, height, or length (e.g. reduce to 13'4", 76,000 lbs), it forces me into pointless detours 100+ miles long. Routing logic is broken And this issue goes beyond US-95. * If I stop at a Walmart or truck stop without setting a via point, 9 out of 10 times it recalculates a completely new route, often with insane detours. * Near Baltimore on I-95, Garmin misreads the post-tunnel signage, assumes an overheight issue (which doesn't apply), and tries to route trucks into downtown Baltimore, which has strict truck restrictions. * On highways like I-70, I-80, and I-10, it routinely exits you off the interstate for no reason, then loops you back onto the same highway a few miles later -- wasting time, fuel, and focus. It's not a GPS anymore -- it's a liability This device: * Ignores legal roads * Invents restrictions * Breaks your route if you stop for fuel * Fails to offer safe, legal options unless you manipulate it * Makes assumptions that can lead a less experienced driver into fines, stuck routes, or restricted zones I've done everything: * Used precise vehicle profiles (height, weight, length) * Disabled avoidances (no ferries, steep grades, tolls, etc.) * Forced via points, changed profiles, restarted trip planner Still -- it behaves irrationally, unless I "trick" it with lighter dimensions. This is NOT what a professional truck GPS is supposed to do. Final thoughts: If you're a new driver -- this GPS could get you in trouble. If you're experienced, like me, you'll be wasting time fighting Garmin's logic instead of focusing on the road. To Garmin: Fix your Truck Routing Database. Remove fake restrictions. Rating the Garmin International location based on my experience with their customer service. I had my HR-Pro for less than a year when one day it didn't connect on one of my runs. I tried everything to get it to work, but to no avail. Through a photo they were able to determine that one of the screws had corroded and was the culprit of the HR strap no longer working. They quickly got me a replacement and were extremely professional, friendly, and courteous throughout our entire interaction. Garmin used to be pretty cool for people other than myself who didn't know how to get around. Before GPS was built-in to every car. You would get a Garmin and then it would tell you where to go. Except that I have a map of the whole universe in my head so I never needed one nor did I really want one. Barbie now has a Garmin watch and she absolutely loves it as you can see. This is a true story: Garmin Etrex lost for 6 months on Montara mountain near San Francisco. When found, it still worked great. I just had to put new batteries in. The rest I have lost while hiking. I have used Garmin GPS products for about eight years. Most recently, I have used the etrex model 20 hiking GPS. I use it for hiking and geocaching. Since I tend to lose things, I am actually on my 4th Garmin Etrex. Now, if I could just remember to use that lanyard and fasten it to my backpack I would stop losing them! I also used Garmin GPS units in my car for probably 10 years. However, with Google Maps and Waze, I don't really need a separate GPS in the car anymore. On several occasions, I have needed to call their help desk. To my pleasant surprise, the service person was extremely helpful in getting my problem solved. I just had to delete some files. My only complaint about customer service is that they had a recording about high wait times. But then it turned out there was no wait time at all! So that's pretty sneaky of them telling you there's a long wait, when there really is no wait at all. I have found their products to be solid and their customer service to be helpful. Honestly, I never considered any other brand of GPS. I have dropped my etrex countless times and I am very pleased with its reliability. Around 9 months ago I bought the garmin vivoactive HR GPS/activity tracker watch. The watch is mostly touch screen and due to me just being clumsy I went through about 4 screen protectors (similar to the kind that protect cell phones) with the most recent time actually breaking through & cracking the screen of my watch causing part of the touch screen to no longer respond properly. I wasn't sure how/didn't bother to see how to contact garmin via email but I did notice on twitter (@GarminFitness ) that they replied to people that had questions so i asked if my watch was still under warranty even though the malfunction was my fault. They replied back in a few days, had me message them my general info connected to when I registered the device, & in a few more days they emailed me with a request to send back my broken watch in exchange for a new replacement. The only thing I had to pay for was the shipping cost to get my broken watch to garmin. I'm totally satisfied that they were able to help me out via social media fairly quickly, rather than having to figure out which department I need to email or call, and I'm pretty happy that they would still cover a device under their standard warranty even though my neglect was the cause to the product malfunctioning. This review is for the Garmin Customer Service Center in Olathe, KS. While we don't currently live in the Kansas City area, we're there fairly regularly, so we've been able to visit the service center a few times over the years. The service we have received in-person at the service center is *vastly* superior to what I have received online. Most recently, I was a few months out of warranty on a Garmin watch, and they cheerfully replaced it. Garmin is a very big company that manufactures quality products. However, any manufactured product can have defects. That is when personal "customer service" is so very important. Try contacting Garmin by phone. First there is the never ending robotic phone tree. Then when you finally connect there is hour long plus wait on hold. I have been helping a friend with his thousand dollar Garmin GPS plotter/sounder unit for his boat and it keeps shutting down. We sent it back to Garmin under warranty and they sent him a re-manufactured unit. So if you purchase a brand new unit and it is defective, you are sent a rebuilt unit? To make matters worse, the "refurbished unit" is doing the exact same thing as the unit he sent back. This is not right. Also, if you attempt to contact them by e-mail, their response time is 5 to 10 business days. A well respected company as large as Garmin should employ enough customer service agents to respond to customer problems promptly. This has been a frustrating issue for my friend as well as taking a lot of my time to troubleshoot the issue. Think about post-purchase customer service before buying any electronics for your boat. Try calling the manufacturer and see just how prompt their customer service agent are before purchasing any brand name. So far my best experience continues to be Discover. If you have an issue or a problem, their agents answer your call promptly and politely. They solve your issue as quickly as possible. Other companies should take a lesson from the Discover Card company. They know what customer service is all about and they do it right. read more

I'll never ever buy another Garmin product in my life. I spent over $5,000 for a Garmin Radar, GPS, Depth Sounder and touch viewing screen and having it installed on my boat and have had nothing but trouble with all four devices. Worse yet, when you send it in for warranty repair, they send it back not only without the item have been properly repaired and in functional working order, but not intact and with the parts you sent into them missing. As a part of my ongoing problems, which are many, I recently sent in a GPSMAP5212 complete with its screen cover and bracket holders. Though, since this is the third time, they told me they would replace the unit, the return package clearly indicates that the unit was only "refurbished." Worse, when I received it back it arrived absent the bracket holders as well as the screen cover. At this moment I really don't even know whether it works or not since without the bracket holders I can't even reinstall it. I don't recommend this. I lost the satellite signal in a valley at Kern County. I was just north of the 101 but this GPS insisted that I take a state road to the 5 freeway. If I just went back the way I came, I wouldn't have had to detour an hour out of the way into the forest because of a fire. My boyfriend found that its default setting was to avoid carpool lanes (why?) Save yourself some time by buying a different brand. These are not consumer-friendly. This was not helpful north of Santa Barbara where the 101 takes a circuitous route. Two stars because is sucks less than Magellan. Been with Garmin since the GPS units for the car, hated them due to maps expiring less than a year later, forcing one to buy another unit or a map upgrade which is half the price of a new unit. So am now dealing with them due to the Vivosmart fitness trackers. Liked them better than the Jawbone which doesn't do more than an alarm and a sleep tracker. However; the Vivosmart I got, now got downgraded to a VivoFit so tells how much those worked. It is great that Garmin will warranty the trackers without the hassle of keeping receipts like other places; things are not always documented when purchased. OMG! I have spend countless hours trying to order over $1,000 of product from this company and it has been an absolute nightmare! Their staff are idiots, and do not know what the heck they are doing. My first order was cancelled: no one knows why. I spoke to a CS person who stated they fixed the issue and would see to it the order would be placed and send me an e-mail: no e-mail or order. Called again and was told I had to place another order. Paid extra for shipping only to realize I can not hook it up because I was told to get the wrong items; and then also realize the the "powered dock" did not come with a power supply (which their web site does not state). The website is difficult to use and does not tell you obvious things (like, if an item needs a power cord, or even a link to same). The staff do not care because everything is f*#@ked up. I would consider Garmin a Tech. company, but they are far from it. More like an Indian or Chinese company. Really wish I went with anything else. While I have always loved and used Garmin's GPS devices for my business and cross country travel, its map update service and Garmin express are horrendous time wasters. I currently own three Garmin devices, my Nuvi 2555 serves as the main business device and a newer Nuvi 40 was recently obtained also. It is really difficult to know why Garmins update system is slow. On average, a 1.2 Gigabyte update is estimated to take 3 hours to download. That is a long time to have one of my business computers and usb slots tied up for a single device update. If this were a new issue, then it would not be reason to write a yelp review, however, this tends to be the standard. Thankfully, updates are once a year. No other support website or device update takes this long to download and install. My Nuvi 2555 has been trying to update for two days and has failed installs each time due to their server timing out. Most of the update downloads that are supposed to take only take three hours are reporting as 10 to 15 hour downloads for the maps. My Nuvi 40 which has been attempting to update for the past 8 hours, failed two or three times on several 1 minute updates, then all of a sudden downloaded those in 2 minutes. It currently states that the map upload it has been working on for the past three hours will take 12 hours. Hey Garmin! Get a clue! Its 2016 and its time to replace your servers and if nothing else, fire your network technicians. read more

Didn't have a satelite signal for 30 minutes in Santa Clara, CA. Had signal on the way to the place but not leaving it. Can't put in multi destinations or stops Think I'll buy the Nuvi 660 for mom for her birthday. --------------- I go into Fry's to look at GPS systems to find out more about them, with my buddy from the USGS, tagging along. There was a rep from Magellan that day who gave us an indepth course of GPS's and their products. My buddy works for the USGS and he said his co workers like the Magellans but the Garmins are just as good. Well, $450 later, my buddy walks out with the Nuvi 650, list price $700. All you do is plug it into your lighter outlet and it is ready to go. "4.3" screen, pre loaded street maps, points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the sunlight-readable color screen to enter a destination, and nvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nvi 650 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. First the good, I have a Kenwood DVD/Stereo with a Garmin GPS. Great unit. I pay for MapUpdates as needed. I also have an old Nuvi760 that I purchased with a LIFETIME of MapUpdates. The Garmin Express software quit working with my old Mac so I was left with no way to Update my maps. Then I purchased a new Mac and the Garmin software now works. However, when going through the Update process it failed so I called Garmin. I was told the "LIFETIME" map updates are only good for the "LIFE" of the Nuvi760 and even though the Nuvi works fine (with the old maps) since it won't now take the MapUdate and is consider by Garmin to have outlived it's life. Hardware (Forerunner 10, 25) doesn't seem to last more than a year or two. Common issues encountered: - watch band breaks on a regular basis - watch buttons stop working - GPS signal takes so long to acquire that I'm halfway done w/ my workout by the time the watch reads "Ready". Overall Support could care less about keeping me happy as a customer it seems. They would basically charge me the entire cost of a new watch to get my current one fixed. Garmin Connect mobile app is extremely frustrating to use. I would rather manually upload runs/rides from my watch than ever have to touch their app again. Therefore, a solid TWO STARS. Little known fact about Garmin: the name comes from the founders, Gary Burrell and Min Kao. Garmin, in my mind, makes the best consumer-level GPS units money can buy. I'm not thrilled about their cycling GPS units, and the Forerunner 405 is a bit hard to used with the iPod-esque touch bevel, but everything else has been stellar. I've had the Forerunner 305 and it's just phenomenal. But the best thing has been my Nuvi 350. Purchased 3 years ago for $300, it has been my navigator through everything, from cycling through Marin to navigating the quagmire of concrete that is the LA freeway system, from walking around Manhattan all over Nolita and Chelsea to driving the Road to Hana in Maui. It has never failed me. It's intuitive, it's fast to track, and that female voice is DAMN SEXY. Sure it doesn't have traffic or more advanced features, but it NEVER fails me and it's entertaining to hear it stumble on some words. Not easy words, but words like "Jisong" (sounds like "jizzing") or "Galleria" (sounds like "malaria"). Just look at the Amazon reviews. Nearly 2700 reviews with an average overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. I've tried the Magellans, the Tom Toms, the Mios, the Navigons, the Sonys. They all suck. The Garmin is so simple to use my parents pick it up within minutes. My dad said he didn't need one but I gave him one anyway and now he uses it ALL THE LIVE LONG DAY. I'm not happy with Garmin these days. I have had a Vivo fit for a few years now. I've enjoyed it until daylight savings time this year. This has never been an issue in the past but, this year there is a bug trying to sync it to my iPhone. I called last Monday and was told "we're aware of the issue". It's not an issue, it's a problem. Call it what it is! My watch is now stuck in pair mode. I cannot even get it back to being an hour behind. I could live with that. There's a reason my Garmin c330 GPS was so cheap- the maps became "outdated" after 6 months of purchasing! I purchased my Garmin in May of 2008 and the last few months I've been noticing just how outdated the maps are. GPS will tell me to go left on one way streets, will tell me to take exits that don't exist (i.e. call the exit one name when it's really called another name) etc etc. Recently, the GPS told me to go to www.garmin.com/mapupdates to get an updated map. Great! I went to that site and had a hell of a time figuring out a. if I could get a map update for free and b. how to get the "right" one. When I searched for free map updates, my GPS didn't qualify so I had to spend $70 on a map update. After spending $160 nine months ago! I paid for the map update and then the damn website wouldn't let me download the map update. Grr! The customer service rep was very nice and helpful and was able to register my product for me. Once I was able to register the product, it was easy to start the download of the map update. However, the map update stated it would take 8 hours to download. That's right, 8 hours. And, of course I chose to do this download on my laptop so I have to stay up until 2am just because of this stinking map update. What a waste of time and money. I've learned my lesson. Next time I'll spend a little extra cash on a decent product. read more

Garmin rocks. Their GPS products are awesome. Especially if you are into cycling. I am truly one of the best people with a map in hand, but the streets of Chicago and Dallas put me to shame. I borrowed a friends GPS to get around and I was hooked. Three GPS products later, (2 for cars, one for my mountain bike) and I can truly say they are the best out there. If your GPS sucks, it's probably because you do. Not the GPS. My mom doesn't even know English. And SHE can use a Garmin. Shame on you for dropping out of the first grade. As we were going along, Sweetie played backseat driver a bunch, which was annoying. Also, at one point, it was threatening to rain, so she punched in "quickest route" and we went way off track. And sat in traffic for over an hour. Grumble. Another time, we were late, so she punched in quickest route, and we went on a long scenic trip all over Mt. Tremper, only to be dumped back onto RT 28 about a mile up from where we left it. It's good to find Gas and such, though. I really don't get the Big Deal about these things. Garmin makes the best GPS products on the market and they are an American company. They also have an aviation product line to their business which is quite popular with personal aircraft. Currently, I own a Nuvi 650 and couldn't be happier, it gets me where I'm going. The only drawback is it didn't come with integrated traffic feature, external antenna and some sort of subscription. Also, Garmin wants to charge for map updates which IMO is a little pricey. How about those beautiful bright LCD screens? Re: wrong directions / weak signal - GPS signals are received from satellites put in space by the government not Garmin, yes they could build a stronger receiver but then it wouldn't be a consumer product. Also, you must have some idea of where you're going and not follow directions like a lost sheep...shortest route will take you the shortest way including off the beaten path. read more

I've been using a Nuvi 650 for nearly 10 trouble-free years. My review is not for the Nuvi though, I'm reviewing my experience with the Kansas Customer Support Center staff and the Garmin website. In my attempt to purchase a map update (I needed all of Canada + US) and had to call the customer support center three times, each time with a different question. Ultimately, it was my computer's limitations that prevented me from being able to download the update, so I ended up buying a new GPS, which was fine. I needed another one, and the new one will have all the needed maps installed. I'm sorry I don't know all their names (except for Billy), but all of them were extremely professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. I was half way into the map update process when I hit the computer wall. Billy was able to reverse the update process and credit my account for the purchase. He then took care of my new purchase. Five stars for the staff. I didn't have to go through a long phone maze, like most customer service call centers, and I was never kept on hold for any length of time. Excellent service! So why just four stars? Damn Garmin, why do you have to make so many different GPS models? There are way too many models to choose from. read more

You can order a garmin anywhere these days. But we are fortunate to live in the same city as the garmin HQ. I was able to trade in my old non working garmin for a upgrade and still get a discount. The staff is friendly and will make suggestions as to what forerunner will best suit your needs. read more

I absolutely love my Garmin. I own the StreetPilot c580 which has been virtually flawless. I did accidentally drop it and the sound stopped working. I called Garmin International and they had me ship it and had it fixed like new and back to me very quickly. They even sent me a new box along with new accessories. (I only shipped the unit to them too). I highly recommend buying one. It is easy to use and you will find that you get a lot more use from it than you would have expected. I bought the most costly biggest piece of shit imaginable. The replacement of the watch band should be a simple process. However it is a nightmare. One would think that an organization like "Garmin" would stand behind their brand. Not so I have purchased a vivo smart band and the pixels went bad not in one band but two. When calling and talking to them the got dismissive with me basically telling me to take my business elsewhere. Does this sound like a good company to buy from I say not so fast. Too many programming issues, not very good in the Arizona heat.

Own three devices, and wrote them to get my Venture HC rubber trim fixed, and they actually want $79.00 to fix, and replace a piece of rubber that I can replace (the part) on the outside of the unit myself, within five minutes. No more money, or referrals, for you Garmin ripoffs. Here's the letter I received, and the letter I sent back: "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am sorry to hear that the rubber edging on your device is failing. This item is not available as a user replaceable item but the unit can be sent in for repair. We do have a flat rate repair fee depending on the model. Is your eTrex Venure HC green or yellow? The yellow unit can be exchanged/repaired for $79.00 and the price for the green model is $89.00. Please let us know if you are interested in setting up an exchange. Thank you and have a great day." "Thanks for the insult Doug. I have been a very loyal Garmin customer since the year 2002, and will not be anymore. I have purchased three Garmins, and even have had your company sponsor geocaching events for entire towns. Garmin seems to be making the best GPS for USA! Have used their products in past and for the most parts, they are good. Their support also seems to be local and is usually very good. My map update had frozen and they got me out of it safely today:) read more
