So many cool things about that experience... 1) I used a chainsaw for the first time and now I want to cut down all the trees! 2) We put something that wouldn't fit in our car in our relatively new truck bed... it was sooooo big! 3) While I was there, I bought several jars of their honey (again)! They have completely embraced the "hot honey" trend and are making some amazing honeys that are perfect for a nice "drizzle" on pizza, a Christmas ham or even as a sweetener in your green beans or spaghetti sauce! The farmers market is a great family activity and often features live music, storytelling and other charming activities. We often end up grabbing brunch from Llama Delicatessen and Tinker Coffee. As for market vendors, you'll find everything from pasta and local cheese to winter produce, honey and dried flowers. It's a great assortment of food you can actually take home to make meals (and not just sauces and soaps ;). This is one of our favorite ways to spend Saturday mornings in the winter. And listen, it's not the most wheelchair friendly place in the world. If you're a wheelchair user, you're in all likelihood not going to the cellar unless you're extraordinary with you're chair or you crawl. I remember attending a Yelp event here, and I just wrestled with these issues so much. It's not inaccessible - you can get in the door, though even the parking is a bit wonky and the curb-cuts a bit worn. This is an older building in an older neighborhood. So yeah, if you're a wheelchair user plan ahead. I am a wheelchair user. And I suppose I should knock off my usual 1-star for accessibility issues. But, I just can't do it. I, instead, choose to go 5-stars with my narrative disclaimer that there are accessibility issues here. But, my word. This is a great place and every single experience I've had with Goose the Market, including last night's Italian Film Festival, has been stellar whether I'm in their location or at an event they are catering. What is Goose the Market? First off, nearly everyone considers it one of the best - Indianapolis Monthly, Eater, Yelp, etc. Goose the Market offers a daily menu of sandwiches, soups, gelato, and small plates. It offers raw beef, pork, poultry, game, seafood, in-house made sausage/smoked meats, and more. It offers charcuterie - both in-house and from other producers. It offers farmstead cheeses, fresh produce, artisan breads, preserves, sauces, pickles, pasta, crackers, flours/grains, and a lot more. There's the cellar - Enoteca bar with Italian style wine by the glass and small plates (and it has all-ages seating). Goose the Market offers a wine of the month club, gift cards, catering, classes, daily specials, and more. What can I say? There are those places that are worth the effort. As a lifelong person with a disability, I long ago realized the world would never be perfectly accessible. It's never going to happen. I'll continue to work toward a more accessible world, though I'll also honor that there are those places where I feel welcome anyway. I feel welcome at Goose the Market, though I can't quite get the full experience. The service is exceptional, the products quite awesome, the environment warm and friendly, and there's simply no doubt it's one of Indy's treasures. So yeah, five stars. With a disclaimer that those with mobility impairments may need to plan ahead or have a companion along. Who wants to be my companion?
