Not a bad spot for a few beers. Very spacious with usually a decent clientele. Haven't eaten here yet, so won't comment on the food.

Hardly a replacement for the osprey which got it very right having a pub that you can get food at every table but we're WELCOME to go in and sit/stand whatever and have a pint! Exactly what a pub should be! Not here! Walked in a immediately got stopped with a "have you booked" on replying no the response was a very large sigh and we'll we'll try! (It wasn't that busy) One eventually getting seated and going to the bar to get served (they don't do table service but supposedly do drinks and dessert at your table after your initial order! ) I waited for 25 minutes to be served at the bar as there was only 2 people serving, there were 2 people being served and I was next in the line! one of the waitresses approached with her iPad and said I'll take your order since you've been waiting! No problem..... I start ordering and after much swiping and prodding she announces "oh I can as I can't put mains on the iPad!!" WHAT KIND OF SETUP IS THIS??? I asked how things had been since they opened the woman replied. "It's been okay it's just really busy tonight because people keep coming in!" THATS HOW A PUB WORKS!!!! Although I've never known a pub before that I need to book for! Beer tap selection was dreadful all lagers and ciders with 2 token ales. Won't be rushing back! Very disappointed it had decent potential .... before it opened

Large car park to the rear (which you'll need as there's not much public transport) and a vintage interior make it a really good place to stop off. I went there for a birthday lunch and the food was really good. We were there on a quiet Friday afternoon so the food was cooked and delivered by this friendly lady. I had the homemade pate to start and it was delicious. You could taste the homemadeness in it. Now let me come to the main attraction...the Mac n' Cheese. This was a cheese sensation! So cheesy and creamy and yummy...I could have happily rolled in a big bath of it!! Now lets move away from my fantasies.... My boyfriend had the soup and sandwich deal. The spicy butternut squash soup was delicous. He also had ham sandwiches...made with proper ham. None of this wafer thin cooked ham you get in the supermarket. This was chunky bits of homemade ham with white bread and lots of flavour. It is a quaint wee pub, very old school decor but with lots of charm. They stock Strathaven Ales now as well. I am going back on Monday and taking my work friends as well. It is also dog friendly.

At the bottom there IS actually a working fire that is on every cold day I've been there. The bar has three levels with comfortable seating all over. There are high tables with comfortable stools as well. The bar has a good selection, only missing are the variety of shots that you get in other bars. No aftershock or Jaffa Cake vodka. Don't ask for any fancy cocktails, this isn't that kind of pub. The bar food is good, made by the same chefs that cover the Beefeater menu through in the restaurant part. Everything from Lasagne to paprika chicken salads, just not tuna. The best bit about the place, though, is the service. The staff are well trained and very attentive. They help you with you orders and even beyond the bar. They are very good interacting with children too. The management seem to be very hands-on. All the staff seem to be happy to serve you. It makes all the difference to your visit.

The crooked lum is named after the giant wonky chimney in the middle of the bar area. It's a Beefeater, so isn't awfully unlike Wetherspoons, but a bit classier looking. The restaurant area is huge, and wasn't close to full, so I was surprised when we were told we'd have a 20 minute wait as the kitchen were running behind. That should've been the first sign of a bad experience. Once we were actually seated, it took just over an hour to get our food. I ordered the T-bone steak, my mum ordered a sirloin and my dad the mixed grill; a rump steak, gammon steak, lamb chop and chicken breast packed onto a plate. When the food actually arrived, I cut into my steak only to find a thoroughly cooked through steak, when I'd asked for medium rare. I sent it back and waited 20 minutes on another one, which is unacceptable because medium rare cooking does not take anywhere near that long. They did take money off the bill for all the drama, and the only reason they're not getting one star is because we actually had a really good waitress, and she cant be faulted for the issues that were going on in the kitchen. I probably won't be back here though.

The owners when I worked there, sold up and moved to Portugal, and the new owners didn't want me. It's changed hands quite a few times in the last twenty-eight years and is now owned by the same guy that owns the Village Inn (I think ). It's all been re-arranged downstairs and there is now a longer L-shaped bar with a pool table where the cellar used to be. There are six televisions of varying sizes around the pub. All the popular football games are shown, but, the place is mobbed when Rangers are playing. I wouldn't suggest going in and cheering a Celtic goal when there's an Old Firm Game on. This is the pub that Ally McCoist drank in with all his young pals when he was 18. The staff are all very good at serving and will even go and find you a bowl to give the dog a drink. Children are not allowed in, it doesn't do food, but you are allowed to take your dog in. Overall, quite a friendly pub. The staff don't really smile a lot, but they are happy to see you, (I think )

It is a two-minute walk from my Gran's and I would pass by it numerous times when up visiting her as a kid. As a curious child I used to wonder what it was like inside, since it was impossible to see into, but I recently went for only the second time since turning 18 and it didn't disappoint. The Calderwood is a fairly standard Scottish pub, but it has been spruced up since my last visit and has gone from what I as a kid envisaged as a dingy, grubby local into a classy pub/bar that could as well be in the centre of Glasgow, were it not for the fact that the patrons were predominantly local middle-aged men enjoying a drink with each other before they walked home . Flatscreen TVs line the walls, and as it was midweek match-night I enjoyed a pint of Tennent's to the football, meanwhile a pool table was constantly in use by the loud and merry locals. By chance two brothers whom my dad remembered from school came in and asked if the inn held functions, as unfortunately their dad had recently passed away, and were informed by the warm and friendly barwoman that the Calderwood certainly does do services upstairs, another pleasant surprise for me and another reminder that my previous impression of the inn was misguided. I was pleased to learn that my Grandpa's and dad's old local was not as I had always assumed: a dark and dingy pub inhabited by men afraid of sunlight, but an elegant pub/bar that I would happily frequent again and again.
