Proceed with caution. He doesn't know how to plant trees correctly and he doesn't stand by his work.
When we purchased two trees ($800 worth) a year and a half ago, the owner was very nice. He was also very nice when he came with two young men to oversee them planting the trees. I wish he was just as nice when I called him the other day. After reading other reviews, it seems he's very nice until he's asked to stand by his work.
My aunt and uncle, who are arborists, just visited and showed us that the trees were planted way too deeply, well above the root flare and below ground level. They are girdling themselves. The roots are growing all around the trunks of both trees and will have to be dug up and replanted. I hope we don't lose them. We wanted to add two more trees to our yard this Fall, so I called to discuss options for raising the two trees and asking about planting two more. It did not go well. The owner was very rude.
Conversation:
Me: Hello, can you tell me how long your warranty is on your trees?
Owner: One year 50% (he didn't say 50% when we purchased - he said 100%, but it's a mute point here).
Me: Well, we have a bit of a situation. We purchased two trees from you a year and a half ago...
Owner: Laughed and cut me off... "No more warranty."
Me: Can I finish? And it's really not funny.
Owner: No it's not funny. I lost $40,000, how much did you lose?!
As I was hanging up on him I heard him say, "because of the freeze?"
I called back to let him know that it had nothing to do with the freeze and he shouldn't have been rude and assumed it was. He said he wasn't rude and he'd been getting a lot of people trying to get their money back from the freeze. I said I wasn't one of them and then he said very sarcastically, "What do you want me to say? I am SO sorry." I said "Okay. Never mind. You just lost a customer." He said, "I don't want you as a customer." and we hung up.
I'm sorry he lost money in the freeze, but it doesn't give him the right to be rude and he should help us correct what he did wrong on $800 dollars worth of trees. Anyone planting trees for that kind of money should know what they're doing. Now we have to figure out how we're going to fix the two trees he planted incorrectly so we can save them. I will be finding someone else to plant the new trees this Fall. read more
