This place is dope. The Staff are friendly and keep everything well organized. Whoever left that one star review was being unfair.

1-Star Review I…read morerecently had one of the worst retail experiences I've ever had between two GameStop locations, and I feel compelled to share what happened. I traded in three games and received $10.50 in store credit. I then purchased two games -- one for $34.99 and another for $14.99 -- using my own money. However, I was sold the wrong game for my console. When I went back to the first store, an employee named Shane admitted the mistake and directed me to another GameStop to exchange it. At the second store, things got worse. While trying to do the exchange, I witnessed a strong-arm theft -- someone near me ripped something off the wall and ran out. This was extremely disturbing, and I felt unsafe and shaken. An employee named Jack was on shift, cursing and acting unprofessionally toward customers during the incident. Amid all this chaos, he gave me the $17 difference back for the correct game. Unfortunately, the game I was given was damaged -- it had visible scratches, a watermark, and no insert -- and it wouldn't even work in my console. When I went back again (yes, again), Shane was now at the second store. I tried to return the damaged game and told him how upset and unsafe I felt during the earlier theft incident. Instead of being understanding or helpful, he dismissed my concerns and said he couldn't process my return. Even though this all happened within one day, I was told I'd only get store credit instead of a refund -- even though I originally paid in cash. This whole ordeal involved: * Two different GameStop locations * Three separate trips * A faulty product * Unprofessional employees * And a disturbing in-store theft I've been left with no working game, wasted time and gas, and a lingering feeling of being disregarded and unsafe in your stores. I'm still waiting for a proper refund and a response from corporate. GameStop -- your return policy, customer service, and in-store safety protocols need serious attention.

The purchase was something of an emergency. My Grandson instructed me, the last time he visited, to buy my own Nintendo Switch so I could get better with the controller functions on his favorite game:). I hadn't yet followed through and he was coming for Thanksgiving. Panic!! I knew he hadn't forgotten because he would ask me about it on FaceTime calls. Taking advantage of the early Black Friday sales I was able to get both the switch & my Grandson's favorite game. It seemed far easier to choose Door Dash delivery than picking up my purchases at the store. On Cyber Monday I ordered some other "must haves" per my Grandson. I'm not in a hurry to pick them up after days of tutoring by a precious 9 year old. Grandma's suffering from Zelda burn out. The store is conveniently located in Haygood Shopping Center, which is on the west side of Independence Boulevard about midway between its intersection with Virginia Beach Boulevard & Shore Drive. Parking is plentiful in the popular shopping center, although at certain times of the day may not be close to the store you're frequenting. Thank you Game Store for keeping Grandma in good standing.

There is parking for this strip of shops directly in front. However, backing out with his quite horrific at times. There is usually plenty of parking in the lot and I found it clear of trash on this day. This store has been visited by me a half dozen times, or so. It is larger than most which means they have a larger inventory of new and used games and merchandise. The shop was really hopping with business and I wanted to tell my son we could come back later, but did not have the heart to dash his hopes of finding the game he was looking for. This GameStop has been well organized and clean in the past and did not disappoint me today. The manager at this store has been great on past visits and was moved to the Pembroke Mall location over Christmas. Even though busy we were greeted by an employee working the floor. I saw at least two clerks on the floor and two behind the counter. We made our way to the Wii U area was assisted by a clerk almost immediately. The employee was very helpful, but not pushy for a sale. After about twenty minutes of looking around he finally made a choice, but not before the clerk checked on us once again. With game in one hand and gift card in the other my son was ready to check out, but not before waiting in a line with five to six others. I am happy to report that the purchase of the game went smooth and the clerk was friendly. Out of the three to four GameStop locations I shop this one is my favorite. It is close to my home, it is larger than the others and I have always found staff available and friendly.

If considering working here at the Petersburg location for GameStop (if they are still open) I…read morewould not recommend it. They are hiring for 12.50 for starting pay which isn't to terrible but you are not, are not, are not going to get your work hours since it is part time and if you are not complying with what they want you to do and what hours to work regardless of what they tell you in the beginning for they would work around your schedule then it is not benefiting you at all, trust me. They will hire a replacement and push you off of the schedule and make excuses about things that you have not done. Not only that but they are gender bias!! The Female manager, which now the Assistant manager as well only hire women at this location which GameStop is not a women owned organization, they are an equal opportunity job, so if you are a male wanting to work at GameStop i do not recommend Petersburg or Chester because the manager also works in the Chester location. They also do a poor service with training but expect you to know what you're doing which I understand that is any job but i have been in retail for 3 years and they all have done better than GameStop with training. I hope this review helps because I could not do the workday review when I quit because they were not letting me sign in. Other than that I prefer shopping at Colonial Heights due to they have more stuff and it is a bit better customer service in my opinion!

Looked identical to the other 45 shops we have checked out, but then again, I don't see what my 14 year old does with his panoscopic vision. All I know is that I walked out $70 lighter after he picked up a set of gaming headphones. As always, there was at least one complete geeked-out employee who answered every question with ultimate enthusiasm, and was having difficulty shifting between his realities. They communicated in their private dialect as I listened in wonder. Who knows? Maybe these guys will save the Universe some day.

I prefer the GS next to Forever 21 because it's bigger and a little bit more spacious. They have plenty of options for used and new games for every console. The staff is generally friendly and in the know in regards to new games coming out and reccommending decent games. As a girl gamer though its annoying coming in here and people assuming I'm buying something for a guy or that I'm here for girl dance games only ( which I do own, tyvm) and I could do without the guys here getting all creeper status. Overall, I don't and probably never will understand why people go to Best Buy or other major retailers for new video games, just buy them here. They tend to be cheaper and used games still function just fine. Oh, and take advantage of the Power Up card, good deals, especially on used games. I've been going to GameStop for as long as I remember and will continue to do so.

So the snow was coming and my daughter wanted a new game to occupy her time as school was canceled the next day. So we first looked at the pre-owned wall. There were several cases that filled the 5ft wall. But we were looking for a Xbox 360 game... She looked and didn't find it. Mom to the rescue! I found the game! We took the empty case to the counter. And here is where you get the actual game and purchase it here as well. Well the employee searched for maybe one minute only to tell us, they are out the game. Bummer! The employee did offer to check other locations. I accepted... the game we were in search for was at a nearby location... We proceeded to Chesapeake. This experience left me feeling like ... why have the case visible when all in all the game wasn't available. But the employee's customer service made up for the disappointment. The shop is located in the Victory Shopping Center among other shops and eateries. It's also minutes from I264. Plenty of parking. Have fun and enjoy life :)

Luckily for me I've never had an issue with the staff at this store. I've only ever been pressured to pre-order a game I didn't want to and that was 5 to 6 years ago (I didn't pre-order the game they wanted me to.) The current staff are friendly and laid back. They pay attention to questions and even give recommendations that are reasonable and from experience as gamers themselves. I would definitely recommend Oldskool if you aren't looking to break the bank, but this is the place to get newer games.
