Louisville is doing some inspiring re-investment into local businesses and I loved seeing how Heavy Meta Gaming and all the different businesses are making use of their unique location within Art Portal. I feel like this game store is the definition of a hidden gem but that makes it feel all that much more intimate and local. Recommend you enter from the Art Portal glass door entrance. Also have faith they're there, while there's limited signage, this friendly local game store was well worth finding! I'm not from Louisville so ArtPortal's concept of a business-art gallery collaboration was new to me and I love how they implemented it in this unique location. The central shared community space is able host Magic the gathering and other card game events which lets you play alongside local art exhibits and makes the small card shop feel bigger on the inside. Super fun vibes with colorful art and local businesses filling the other retail spots, including a spa and cafe. Heavy Meta Gaming's owners were gracious enough to give me a tour when I stopped by on a quiet afternoon. This friendly local game store is just one of many local retailers/businesses tucked away in the Art Portal community space. There's a communal events venue with green space in the back and the businesses invite food trucks for big events. Sounds like they have a pretty active crowd on Commander and Pokemon nights, but I only saw the store during the weekday lull.
