There's a reason every decent review of this place is a decade old. This place is super unreliable, has horrible customer service, and quite frankly I'm amazed it's even open still. My 8 year old son got a gift card to GameStop for his birthday 6 months ago. He chose to use it to buy a GameStop pass, so he could get a free pack of Pokémon cards every month (which the guy working sold him on). We've then proceeded to come on here every month to them never having Pokémon card packs, so he feels like he wasted his gift card. They won't even let him get the $.50 singles in its place since they can't fulfill what he wants. Additionally, there's always ever only 1 person working, and no matter who is working they are completely inept. They are no help in finding things, and when more than even one customer is in the store they disintegrate like wet toilet paper. Lastly, they never keep consistent hours. I can rarely get here during the week because they close at 5, and now they're not even open on the weekends when they say they will be. They went as far as to post a calendar on their door for their holiday hours, and yet here I am at 10:39 on a Saturday, when they say they'll be open at 10, and no one is even answering their phone let alone removing the gates form the door and opening the store. Horribly run business, rude staff, inconsistent hours. I guess I'll just start buying my gaming stuff at Target or Walmart, because this place stinks. read more

Came in here on a whim to try to get a couple games for my kid, and boy am I glad I did. The store is small, but has an eclectic mix of games, toys, clothing, and knick knacks for gamers and anime fans. They have a nice selection of used, but well-kept games and game controllers for a fraction of the price of new. What really makes this store, though, is the staff. Every single one of the young women and men working here are friendly, knowledgeable, and spare no effort in helping you find the product you are looking for. Whoever the owner is, he/she is not paying them enough! Truly great service is hard to come by, especially in the greater Philly area. Kudos, GameStop! read more

Went in to this store for a console swap because I was sent a faulty Xbox. The store was a bit busy and the employee working the counter was severely frustrated with questions and seemed unable to handle his emotions. He incorrectly swapped my return and explained the process poorly, so being confused I had questions as to why my warranty was being used for a console that never worked, he shut down. Refused to explain it to me correctly or fix the situation. With a line behind me he continued to show his inability to handle customers and refused to then do anything. There was an exchange amount for some reason so I was owed money back, instead of the money he went ahead and gave me a gift card instead which is not what I wanted. He refused to give me the money, and because I wouldn't leave until he did, he proceeded to take cash out of the register, and then throw it directly in my face. His name was Adam. Adam makes that store unsafe for children, and himself. Adam likes to assault customers when he's overwhelmed. Don't be like Adam. read more

Towards the end of November, I was brought in on a referral by the regional manager in regards to being a hire at this location. I continue to the interview process of both the regional manager followed by the store manager at this location at which point just before Thanksgiving I was informed that I would contact the background check and hear something back that following Monday.. after receiving the background check, I waited till Monday heard nothing I called the store Monday evening got no answer, I called the store Tuesday morning no answer. Finally I received a phone call on Wednesday evening towards the end of the day, and the supervisor had informed me that they decided to go with another employee after already guarantee me the position.. I have worked for Gamestop on multiple different occasions in multiple different states. I've had words with them. I've had great experiences with them the benefit to it is getting the discounts on the games as well as the systems and meeting new people and being able to talk about video games that I enjoyed playing. However, this experience is the worst that I've ever experienced trying to work for Gamestop in my entire life.. $10.80 to work as a senior guest advisor at the maximum amount is what the supervisor had told me. I then said OK not a problem it's not a big deal I didn't know that I was able to transfer to different stores to help out when needed and I okayed it both the regional manager and the store manager stated yeah we want to bring you on. Yeah we want to bring you one and then on Wednesday after Thanksgiving I was told sorry we're going with someone else with no other explanation beyond that unacceptable. read more

Update: This used to be a great spot (see below!), now it bites jackal junk (last visited late last year). The meat head manager/shift leader (think Planet Fitness eating pizza on a treadmill) not only doesn't know his stuff, but comes off as biding his time until he can open a Orange Julius franchise. Sadly another prototypical Gamestop hire who would rather push crap than shut up and let the games sell themselves has ruined this store. ***Old*** Rule of thumb, a good Gamestop is like a good gym, coffee shop or genie: when you find one, you hold on tight and ride the wave. While most are solid (see my Springfield Mall review if you are looking for one to avoid due to inferior leadership...), the Gamestop in the Manoa shopping center is the "alpha". While there, the employees gave sound, balanced advice. Where "Which console should I get (game X) for?" usually sparks nerd rage, they retorted diplomatically and advised the client "it is basically the same on either platform, which do you prefer?" They are extremely knowledgeable, and (unlike the faux gamers one often encounters) do not upsell by pushing "what they see on their wall" but rather items that they seem genuinely interested in/that fit the person that they are talking to. It is refreshing to hear a game described as "interesting" based on its merits, developer and pedigree rather than "Dood! You Get a Kangol Hat for ur Avatar!" Most importantly these guy go out of their way to provide world class customer service. They advise of trade in deals, give honest feedback and have intelligence. They are super friendly and don't look like they were locked in the basement as children (or have folks locked in their basement currently). This store has superior management and an excellent staff - you can really see the difference when dealing with this team. They need to make this the prototype as I feel that they "get it" - simply outstanding! read more

I had an issue with an electronic device I'd purchased one week earlier. Unfortunately, I'd thrown away the box it came in and couldn't find the receipt. Having worked in retail and knowing how return policies are, I had little hope of GameStop being able to help. But the guys working there where able to help. They exchanged the item and gave me a free rewards card so that future purchases would be tracked and I wouldn't have to worry about having the receipt. The selection here is always great and with service like this, I will definitely go back. read more
