To me, as someone who fits into the record collector/record dealer/cratedigger and DJ categories, visiting a record store I've never been to before is always an exciting or intriguing adventure. Josey has a reputation for being a good spot to buy records, so I am glad I finally went here to see what's up. Just looking around the store initially, I could see there are several areas in which the store could be improved or made more interesting. My first observation re: genre sections is that the signage for aisles could be more prominent. All of it is placed rather low, but at great record stores, you're never left guessing where everything is. You just find the music you're looking for more easily. With the massive volume of music releases in the store, I would like to see better curation of what's in stock. For example there were lots of Brian Eno releases, but not the ones I'd be interested in. For Parliament Funkadelic, there were just 2 Parliament 45s, but no Funkadelic and no George Clinton 45s. I thought that was weird. I was also looking for a famous jazz guitarist who's listed on the website, but the guy working the counter didn't even know who he was. Overall, I think the selection is decent if you are willing to spend time just looking through various sections, but there's no help on the floor--so you're just basically on your own. It kind of reminded me of shopping for records in a warehouse, but the warehouse I usually go to has much better curation. I should also state I tend to like smaller stores which get the mix of old and new releases more right or perhaps even focus on a certain niche. On a different note, in addition to music, there are lots of other cool things at Josey: a stage for performances, books, posters, tshirts and other ephemera. So, it is easy for music nerds to get lost here. Also, the parking situation is really good here, and I thought the service was good--the guys here are friendly, and one of them did go back into the aisles to look for something. Overall, I would rate this store a 4/5.

When I've recently met some Dallas artists that I ended up performing at Top Ten with, it messed me up that this spot's on the same street & that I never knew about it this whole time. Finally coming around to perform here & all that led up to it was a great experience. The communication was always good to make sure things would go good (all the way from social media to being on location for the day of the show). The sound guy was efficient & always made sure the artists & I were set for the night. The sound was good, the crowd enjoyed the night. The staff was nice as well, very friendly & were letting us in on some future plans dealing with music shows. One thing I didn't get a chance to do was dive fully into the selections of vinyl on deck. The spot is intimate & very suitable for DJs to spin, open mic, spoken word, etc type of events. It didn't take long for me to plot on the next show to do here. Outside of having a great show, I had a great night overall.

I have been shopping at Half Price Books for most of my book-buying life. I remember shopping here…read moreall through high school, and I've continued to shop here when I return to Dallas (my hometown) for visits. To sum up my review, Half Price Books ruined me for all other used bookstores. Since leaving Dallas, I've lived in 6 other cities. While some had some pretty decent used bookstores (others not so much), none even come close to HPB. It was one of the many things I took for granted growing up in Texas/Dallas. I thought all cities had stores as large and well-stocked as HPB until I left. Most cities (even large ones) just don't. I've been shopping at HPB since the early 2000s (maybe the 1990s, too), but it's been open since 1972, and this Northwest Highway location is the original - its flagship store. It's huge. In a world with fewer and fewer bookstores (thanks, Amazon), bookstores have also gotten tinier and tinier (some are about the size of postage stamps now, but I'm still happy to visit and support them!). Not HPB. This location is 54,000 square feet. 54,000 square feet!!! There's a coffeeshop (La Casita Coffee at HPB), a large community space (where they host signings and author events, live music, and a monthly game night), and tons of places to sit, read, study, etc. (I should point out that not all Half Price Books locations are THIS large. Most - and I've shopped at a lot of other locations across Texas - are still pretty large stores, but this flagship location is massive. Founded in Dallas, many - 37 - of their 100+ stores are in Texas.) The store is also incredibly well stocked, housing more than half million books and then tons of movies, vinyl, CDs, games, and other items. When I say well-stocked, they have more books than this bibliophile can even process, including tons of mass market paperbacks, rare books, art/photograph books, and more. If you're looking for a classic, they'll have 40 copies (I was looking for an anthology of plays by Eugene O'Neill with a certain play included when I visited this past Saturday, had had about 10 options - and that's for a play not included in the larger anthologies). If you're looking for something rarer, they still might have it. But it's also a great place to browse - to come not knowing what you want. On my most recent visit this past weekend, I left with 3 or 4 books - two I wasn't really looking for and 1 I was. I also grabbed a coffee with my family in the cafe. If you have books you need to sell, this is the place. There's an area in the back where they'll take your books and then you can shop while they review. Then they'll call you up over the speaker in the bookstore when they have an offer for you. Don't expect a lot of money per book, but it's a great way to pass along a book you're done with to get something new to read. I can't say enough about this location of Half Price Books. I've loved it for more than half my life, and it's still the used bookstore I measure all others against. If you love a bookstore, you simply have to shop at this flagship store.

I brought by roughly 50 LP's for her to examine & returned a short time later to be surprised she wanted all of them except for a few. Offered me a decent price for them all & I know she got a few gems out of the bunch since I wasn't concerned about getting top dollar, just wanting to move a few of my sister's massive collection. Great store with quality over quantity, no CD's, but they do have cassette tapes, turntables & some nice accessories. I'll be back for sure.

It's where you would come just for a book that has been researched and carefully selected. It's more than a place just to find excellent reference material. There is a feel of christian passion for quality research on the reading material that they have selected to carry. The christian book selection is pretty darn good, I must say! The staff is there to help with your selection for purchase or to check out. Please note: There are different areas for either purchase or to check out. For some of the different Sunday school classes, the teachers have / and or may selected books from this book store for a more in-depth understanding of what the class maybe about. Now the only times that I've been here is on Sundays before or after a church service. They are located in the church downstairs. I hope you find with what you're looking for, book wise / or for your research. If they do not have the book that you're after, they are more than happy to order it. Ok, no problem, I understand machines can break, so I said what time do you think you will be here? I do have to entertain kids at a party after all. Once again no response. Finally I hear back they aren't going to make it because they got a new generator but the driver of the van left with the keys. I'm not sure who runs this company, but I'd guess no one is really "running" it. They offered to make it up to me some how, but after asking a way for them to do that, no response again.
