Pretty disappointing experience at this location during the "Chaos Rising" release event. I arrived early and was 30th in line. A staff member at the door handed out tickets and clearly stated that anyone who was 46th in line or under would receive a promo card. Based on that information, I decided to make my purchase. However, once I got to the register, another employee, I believe his name was Christian - short guy in the picture told me I could not receive the promo card unless I had a Pro or Player membership. I explained that this requirement was never mentioned by the employee managing the line outside. She specifically stated that the promo cards were for those within the first 46 spots in line, with no mention of needing a membership. Before attending, I had also called other nearby locations to ask how the promo cards would be distributed, and I was told they were first come, first served. Again, no one mentioned any membership requirement. The inconsistent communication and lack of transparency made me feel misled as a customer. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I do not plan on returning to this location. read more

We called the store three different times to try and see if a certain game that another location said they might have was in stock. It's kind of a bit of a drive for us, so calling in advance was ideal. We were frustrated when we all three times we called we got no response. Finally, we just took our chances and drove to the store only to find employee sitting watching something on their phone. Don't come here if you need anything specific. They don't have anything in stock either despite being a bigger store- it's not even just for super specific titles. This Game Stop location is tucked between Barnes and Noble and the Cheesecake Factory in the Arboretum so it is very convenient for me since I literally work in the same parking lot so when my kid gives me his money to buy PS4 cards for him I of course charge him a "mama stopped on her way home" fee. :) And everytime I have gone into this GameStop location all the employees have been very helpful because in reality I have no idea what I'm buying. My neighborhood gamestop! My husband and I have been frequenting them for the past several years. I know gamestop gets such a terrible rep from folks selling their old/used games and gamestop giving little to none, but what, it's a business model they have and don't take it out on the retail folks. The people that work there are amazing. From the manager Kyle to the ladies who work and KNOW their games and material instead of driving a pressured sales tactic. They genuinely like to chat with people and do their best to give you a great sales experience when you enter the store. Also, the store recently underwent a redesign so the shelves of products and the store layout is SO SO SO much more beautiful, clean and easier to traverse. So many fine neat figures, products and that which reminds me of my other fav store Dragon's Lair in Austin for their figurines. I've also been to 10+ midnight releases here and I just have to say the way they organize, put on fun contests and trivia, snacks and drinks out of the staff's own pockets, and line-up and distribution is 5 stars all around. I really enjoy the folks that come here, the streetpasses that I pick up and the nice chit chat that happens when we come in. Pokemon midnight release here for X/Y was GIANT and the store was snaked back to back with little to no place to sit, Fallout 4 similarly with a big crowd but they keep you going til midnight which is great. I've also sold used/old iphones and they actually pay out decently in cash for when you don't want to deal with mailing in and waiting for payout from the likes of those types of services. read more

As an executive career professional and a 40 year old mom to 4 who stole her kids Xbox years ago because of the violence in the games and online crap talking, I can probably bet that I am not the normal clientele at Game Stop. I hope I'm wrong, but most of my conversations and observances online bring me to this conclusion...unless there's a fair chance there are abundant middle age wall flowers that don't mic up - I would love to be proved wrong. Anyway, most of the time when I have to go into GS to get the new editions of MW3, GOW3, Battlefield3 and Borderlands - I find myself staring at a young, semi-nerdy gents who you know assume the identity as online "rockstar" in their own right. AND I commend them for actually leaving their livingrooms/man dens to work and not just play all day. The attitude I typically get from these types of gents is usually something along the lines of "hurry up and pick that crappy game for your kid bioytch cuz I gotta get back to reading my cheat mags". Not so at this GS. The young guy that helped me gave me a full review of RPGs and other games that I was curious about, but had no urge to try in the past. I ended up spending a bit more time and money in the store than I had planned...and will probably pull an all nighter or two to fit some game time into my already hectic life, but the pure enjoyment of a new artillery and some pretty cool bloody graphic is going to last awhile. Ok, I admit it. I'm 40+ years old and I love video games! I can remember playing tabletop Pong at one of the original Mr. Gattis about a hundred years ago. My high school best friend and I used to spend our lunch money on Pac-man at a grocery store across from school. We'd then pilfer their Dexatrim so we wouldn't get hungry later in the day. I've owned just about every console there's been since the Magnavox Odyssey. Does anyone besides me even remember the Odyssey? Someday when I'm old, infirm and in a nursing home, I'll still be button-mashing while they change my diaper and wipe drool off my face. Why am I mentioning this? So you can know that I've had just a little bit of experience with video games. With that said, Gamestop is about as good as it gets for a brick and mortar gaming store. The have knowledgeable and friendly employees. Their selection is unmatched and they have good specials. Can you get better trade-in value at other stores? Maybe, but who wants to drive from store to store and wait while you get offers for your used games? Not me...I'd rather just get a game or two and go home and play. If you live near the Arboretum, this is your best bet for buying games. I buy most of my new (and some used) games online, but if I'm looking to do a trade-in or I need to place an advance order for a game that's yet to be released, this is where I go. You can pre-order on Amazon or other sites, but Gamestop usually has some "extras" you can get if you sign up at the store instead. I like Gamestop and will visit their store again and again. I really like that so many of them are connected to Barnes & Noble. Pre ordered game from GameStop. Had beta code on receipt. Lost receipt. Went in to get duplicate code. Brandon the clerk highlighted it for me in yellow on new receipt. When got home the highlight had wiped out the code. Called to get another code but policy, set by manager Kyle, is that no codes given out over phone. So make another trip to listen to Kyle tell me had he answered the phone he would have given me the code. Got new code which worked. Brandon and Kyle full of fail mostly Kyle. This location in particular failed in a big way and I do hope that they can address this one seemingly simple issue. They do not check the ID of the person claiming to be picking up a reserved item. This is especially frustrating if it is a sought after item and is the last one in stock for who knows how long. Yesterday evening my husband called to inquire about a PS4. He was told they had one refurbished unit left. Not wanting to wait any longer to get his PS4 he gave them his name to reserve it. He had to pick it up within the hour. We had already checked with several other stores and no other stores not even non-GameStop stores within 20 miles had one. Just this location. We arrived not 20 mins later to watch as the clerk sold the reserved PS4 to another customer, with a heavy accent that could not be mistaken for my husband. The clerk who sold the system was the same clerk he had just spoken to not 20 minutes prior. The clerk did not take a moment to confirm the mans name was in fact the same as the person who just called. This clerk's failure not only lost that store a customer, but possibly GameStop as a whole has lost a very loyal customer. They also missed out on additional sales as I was prepared to also spend a couple hundred dollars in games and accessories in addition to the PS4. Once i heard that they had sold it to someone else I left along with my obviously upset husband. Now granted the person who bought our PS4 was also a douchebag because he knew he hadn't called to reserve the system but still said "yes" when the clerk asked him if he was there about the reserved PS4. I bought a used game for my son on sept 20th from this location, he was specifically wanting Halo reach for 360 which is an old game. The service person grabbed the video popped out the disc to check for scratches and pops it back in, which at that point I trusted him since he checked for scratches. I pay and decide to also get an extra warranty since it was a used game didn't want to take any chances. I drop off the disc to my son who in turn immediately calls me and tells me the disc does not work it's cracked. At that point I thought maybe his game system was acting up so I swing by his place grab the game only to see how damaged the disc really was. I went in today to have them change it out, and the employee working today was friendly and gave me one that looked good. Doesn't make up for the extra time and gas it took had the other employee did his job the first round. My advice if buying a used game check yourself. This particular GameStop is the worst one I've ever shopped at. Now, it's just a place I use to walk through on my way to Barnes & Noble. I've had numerous issues with the staff at this store. Twice, I have seen a pre-ordered game (that I came to pick up the date of the release) be sold to another customer. All the staff does is blame it in someone else from earlier in the day. The staff is also very unprofessional and not helpful. If you ask a question it's like the worst thing in the world because they are in the middle of a deep conversation with other employees. This place is a perfect example of why everything in gaming is going to on-line only. The staff is rude and will simply ignore you. If they do finally interact with you it means you are at the register. If you know exactly what you want and the specs that are involved you will get a lecture about the "correct" way to communicate it. I stopped by to sell a used console and the process was quick and easy because of Kyle. He had answered all my questions the night before so I knew what to expect. Upon arrival, he inspected/tested the console which took a few minutes. During that time, I was free to roam about to see if there was anything that piqued my interest. Once everything was tested out, I was given the option of cash vs. store credit. Since I don't shop often at Gamestop, I opted for cash. The catch is cash is 20% less than what one could get for in-store game credit. All in all, it was a great experience. read more

Re: Gamestop in general Gamestop has been a great resource. They offer used games at a significant discount: the older the game, the better the discount, of course. They offer a 7 day review period. If you buy a game and hate it, or decide it is too easy or too hard, you can bring it back during the first week. They sell refurbished game systems (with a warranty). I have never had a problem with any of the 4 different ones we have purchased. I highly recommend this place if you buy a lot of games. Re: this location specifically: The clerks are personable and knowledgeable. They discuss the merits of the games with my son. They laugh politely at my husband's bad jokes. (I think they even think some of them are actually funny, go figure.) They fully explained the warranty on the used system we bought. They offer to call to other stores to find a game they don't have in stock. They offered, but did not push, their discount card program. (Just like the previous reviewer, my son too has announced that this will be his first job when he grows up.) They lose one star for aesthetics. The stores tend to be crowded with displays and a cacophony of color and sound. The kids love it - it is a bit much for me. A side note. If you buy, or plan to buy, a lot of used games you should consider their discount card program. You pay a nominal fee ($10?) up front for a discount on any game or accessory purchase for a year. It can add up pretty fast, we always recover our "investment". You also get a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine. Keep an eye out, too, for ads.
