I stopped into this store to show a friend the game Warhammer. I had passing familiarity with the game and neither of us had ever played it. When we walked in the manager (whose name I forget) greeted us. He was very enthusiastic describing the game and gave us a "15 minute" demonstration. With our questions, it turned out to be longer than 15 minutes and worth every minute. His love of the game was clear and rousing. While he was talking with us, he was also able to deal effectively with other customers in the store. If I were to take up the game Warhammer, I would definitely patronize this store. It was clean and organized. But the manager was a very good advocate and customer-centric. read more

We drove over 30 minutes for my son to check out this specialty store. Only to find that they had a sign that stated that they were closed due to unforeseen circumstances. But when I called the message on their phone said they were open from 10-5 with lunch break from 1:00-1:30. When we arrived at 3:00 we saw the unforeseen circumstance sign posted on their door. The guy running the show is awesome. Stopped by as a new customer and he was as welcoming as can be. He set me on the right path as a beginner and even offered a first time game experience as well as paint lessons. He did say it was a one man show so if your driving from far off id make sure to give him a call beforehand to verify the hours. Can't recommend this shop enough, I know I'll be back. read more

Damian the store manager is awesome!! My son and I are new to the Warhammer universe and Damian was great with all the questions we had. We had gone in to learn to paint the models. He gave us a fantastic lesson and gave tips along the way. Customer service is top notch and we definitely felt welcomed even as beginners. read more

Mixed experiences. I haven't had much of a bad experience in store except that when I asked if a product was in stock, I was told everything on the GW website is in their stock, but that wasn't really true, he'd have to order it and you'd have to wait a few weeks for it to show defeating the point of going in to purchase a product same day. Conversely, I'm pretty bummed about the store anniversary models this year (2023). I was told to call to order, but each of the multiple times I did, I was told he was too busy to take phone orders. Damien said he'd call me back after store hours to put the order in, but that never happened so I wasn't able to order the models at all. Ultimately, if you live close enough to drive here, probably not too bad. If you have to travel a bit or call to order, it's probably faster and more reliable to order straight from GW's site or eBay/amazon. read more

Great customer service! I came in here today with a coworker to learn how to paint and play the game. Well, Tyler spent a good two hours showing us how to paint and he really knows his stuff. He gave us each a model to paint and really explained the steps of how to paint and even a little bit of brush anatomy. Damion (who helped me once) came in on his day off to play with some customers and recognize me from coming in a few months ago to buy a kit. I think that's great that they remember their customers and are so willing to not only sell you stuff, But to also teach you the ways of Warhammer. Overall it was a great experience and I definitely will be back once I've attempted to paint the rest of my dudes. #spacebarbies read more

Damian sets the high bar for customer service -- both with extreme knowledge and passion for Warhammer. Incredibly helpful and truly enjoys chatting about the hobby. It's been 10 years since I did Warhammer stuff but Damian got me going again with what I needed, especially with the new paints. Great guy selling a great product. He's as enthusiastic talking to someone thinking about taking up the hobby as someone who is a veteran. Store selection and ability to obtain product is impressive. We showed up on a Monday and the store was closed (should have checked the hours beforehand. My fault). The person working noticed my son and I looking in the window and let us take a look around for our next trip up. Very kind of him, and it made the next few weeks wait time a pretty insane challenge for my son, who loves WarHammer 40k. Second trip there, same guy is working and is just as customer-oriented. The selection is beyond amazing. The prices are inline with what you'll find for the same merchandise, but the place has more of what you're looking for. A bit of a drive from my East County digs, but worth the trip for the volume of quality stuff you can get all in one place. read more

My experience here has been poor. When in the store the owner continues to push sales aggressively. If you want to play more than 1500 points, forget it (even on a slow day) assuming the table is even available. I was away for several months due to military service and was called "disloyal" by the owner when I returned because I had not made a purchase in store during that time. Damien is knowledgeable about GW products, but is ultimately driven to push sales. The store keeps inconsistent hours, often closing early without warning. In one instance, while there with my wife, we needed to leave but the owner kept pushing products, adding "oh, and one more thing" as my wife was inching toward the door, making it clear she was dying to use the restroom. Good customer service appears to be reserved for the Store Manager's inner circle of friends. At Ease Games (no more than 10 mins away) offers a far more relaxed environment, an equal 40k selection, a bar serving great microbrew beers, and far more open game tables. They have better store hours too, and actually stick to them. read more

This is one of my favorite places to take my kids. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and the store is well stocked with Warhammer Fantasy and 40k stuff. There is a thriving community of regulars so you can drop in and have a great game just about anytime. The store has an active presence on Facebook, which is a great way for those new to the area to start connecting with other players. The best part about the store is that it is family friendly, by which I mean that it caters to people who want to PLAY warhammer fantasy and 40k, instead of being full of earnest manchildren who want to WIN fantasy and 40k. There are plenty of places to go for tournament style d-bags to congregate (At Ease, Game Empire, etc.) but this GW store is one of the rare places of refuge where novice players and grizzled veterans can have a great time together. read more

Before the new management, the store employees were great, the place had a great enviroment and feel to it. Could always get a game in at any time. Since the new management, it has gotten even better. Always see new faces from other hobbyists that tend to come back every time I am in the shop. Tables are usually open (except Fridays when there is a league, they tend to be pretty full.) The new management has been much more knowledgeable on the fluff / narrative and the gaming rules as well. They have also begun to run themed Apocalypse games every third Saturday of the month and occasionally have events on the other Saturdays as well. With fresh ideas, fresh faces and more terrain on the boards, the gaming has gotten better as well as the community. Always enjoy stopping in for a game, or just chit chat amongst every one when ever I get a chance, or of course to pick up the newest lose end my army needs. Most definitely the place to go to for all your 40k, fantasy, lord of the ring collection needs. read more

It's been 15 years since I've built or painted any 40k models. Things have changed almost to the point of overwhelming. I started my journey into a Necron army for the soon to be released 9th Edition last Friday, and Damien, the manager of this store, was a great help. He pointed me in the right direction, answered all of my questions, and took extra time with me. He even stayed an extra 30min after close to make sure I had everything I was asking for. Since that experience we've talked a couple times on the phone to set up the purchase of a variety of paints and the Indomitus Box releasing this Saturday. Not sure if this place is a normal GW retailer or perhaps a local distributor for GW, I've tried to come here 4 times and only once has it been open, The hours on the door may be just guidelines due to me being there during typical open hours but I'm not sure, tried the provided phone number and it seems like a fax number on the plus side the day it was open the guy in the shop was extremly nice, helpful and answered any question I had. read more

I've been to many gaming stores, and this one is by far the most welcoming. Damien is extremely knowledgable about all matters of Warhammer 40k and has been in the hobby for 20 years. Customers often seek his guidance on army expansion, painting ideas, and rules explanation showing that they respect him as the subject matter expert. He is genuinely friendly, and always making creative events and competitions to draw in new hobbiests, and to keep us veterans coming back for more. His passion for the hobby is tangible and his marketing expert, I honestly feel he would excel at higher positions in the company due to ingenuity and passion. So awhile ago I had a rough experiwnce with this store in which certain items I had shipped to the store vanished before I ever even got to pick them up. I e-mailed coporate and the store manager reached out to me to attempt to set things right. All in all I won't forget that my products were sold to someone else even though they were already mine when they arrived at the store. I also didn't enjoy having to get corporate involved after attempting to get the store to give me what was mine. I'm abreviating the entire experience because I don't like typing. With that said though this store has a consistent stock which is expected out of a Games Workshop store and the manager did do everything he could to male amends. For myself personally it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and when it is brought up in conversation my opinion on the store may be expressed, at the same time though I won't hesitate to tell people that if they absolutely have to have a model by all means go to this store. They have just about anything you're looking for and a handy little kiosk to order things online. My opinion if expressed verbally in conversation is entirely my own and in no way meant to harm the store, nor is this review. I believe sometimes some shady things have gone down and that has been backed up by things other people I have met playing have told me about their experiences. Regardless I may occasionally visit the store because there is no faster way to obtain certain models or terrain. Also if you are aiming to learn to play they have a small table set up in the shop for low point matches for anyone returning to the game or just getting started. I have no malicious intent towards the store or it's people we just aren't exactly buddies. I started going here semi regularly after the first year they opened, originally excited that we finally have a games workshop store in San Diego, but have been disappointed over and over again. Both employees don't know/understand the basic rules to warhammer 40k and the store manager has a pretty limited understanding of the fluff/narrative as well. I entered a tournament and was kind of shocked that there were ridiculous "Purchase Requirements" and broken rules as well. My games would regularly get cut off short because the store is small, tournaments were unorganized and the stores open hours are not very good and often random. Also there is not much terrain on any of the tables, so expect to get shot across the table unless you play a shooty army and not have a very interesting table/scenario to play on/with. I will say the community at this store is really friendly and inviting and I got to play with some really cool people. Overall though, you are much better off going to Game Empire in Kearny Mesa or Pair a Dice in Vista. read more
