Nice that we have a raceway in our backyard. Easy to from the LIE. Parking on a grassy field. Tickets were available for $40 cash only which moved relatively quick, but advanced tickets can be purchased online. It is all bleacher seating, no stairs. If you want to avoid debris, I recommend sitting closer to mid to upper levels. Maybe a pair of glasses and a cap to shield the eyes. Lots of exhaust and burning rubber. There were several races which were fun to watch which included the figure 8 and the trailer race (there were boats and jet skis on trailers!). The main feature was the school bus demolition derby which was a hoot. They would back into one another and the last one standing wins. There are concession and merchandise stands if you wanted to pick up something. It took quite a while to leave the field because it all converged to the main road. Worth trying at least once if you're a racing fan.

This…read moreshow was the movie of "Little Shop of Horrors" a 40 year anniversary recognition with the original Female lead actresss Ellen Greene hosting with her manager Scott on stage. There were a few questions and answers, but lights were not shown on the audience so on stage they could not see who was waving hands to possibly get a chance to get a mic and ask. Also As EG tended to lovingly go off on tangents many questions were not precise or answered from the small crowd. Definately could have had a more exacting format for that proceedure. As for the movie, Wow, it was clear and sharp with good sound and nice to see on a full screen. This one was the original ending (not the directors cut) Where they appear to live happily ever after - maybe! **) - Great cast in this version with Rich Moranas, John Candy, Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Jim Belushi, and a few other perfectly placed characters. I got a great seat after calling and speaking with a helpful lovely lady, though I felt the tickets for this were a bit costly. My drive is far enough away for it not to be a common visit. Though with the passing of versitile Vagabon Tim Curry perhaps the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture show will fill more seats.

I enjoyed reading about the equipment and the history of the LIRR. There is a little train that kids can ride in that goes around the yard and they love hearing the horn! In the Visitor's Center, you can see the Lionel Layout, which was moved from Michigan to Riverhead back in 2011 and it is truly something to behold. It is very interactive and there are plenty of buttons for kids (or adults!) to push to make things move or light up. The highlight is the model circus that was handcrafted by a local man. They might not make small talk about something else, but if you have train related questions, they are excellent resources. Admission was ten dollars & included unlimited train rides. Also included was access to old train cars & a large tent containing train sets & some very cool vintage locomotives. I'd forgotten how cool some of the toy trains were. The festival is located adjacent to the LIRR train stop - also got to see a large "real" train pass by. Nice event. Nice staff. Good value. Though there were vendors, not one of them had any strawberry related goods. What I did enjoy was the strawberry shortcake eating contest and the crowning of the strawberry queen (the only two events that made it feel like I was at a strawberry festival). There were also chocolate strawberries being sold as well as strawberry shortcake slices (but I got one for free because I was front row for the eating contest and there were many extra!). Every activity is pay per person including contests, games and all rides thus, fair patrons bring lots of cash especially sunscreen SPF 30+. A Pay-One-Price Ride Bracelet is available for $25.00. Carnival fairs always attract my foodie interests for funnel cake (Fried Dough) and Italian sausage, but sadly no strawberry concoctions hence the name "Strawberry Festival." The popcorn was fresh (which always matters more than it should), and everything ran smoothly. Most importantly, Mikey had an awesome time at the movie, which is really what it's all about. What really stood out too was their pricing for birthday parties and events--very reasonable, especially for how easy they make the whole experience. CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale NY does a number of performances. Not only well known works as…read morethe up coming Addams Family the Musical, new works as The Area between Us written by Ashlyn Frank , a variety of children's shows and, as well , a combined effort murder mystery in a church for a fundraiser. Sin & Gin was a fun and cute performance of a 1920s theme murder mystery. It took place in the Saint Ann's Church in Saville NY, as a combined effort of the Church, along with People's Arc of Suffolk . The write up is a service for Edith Corse Evans' a fellow member who had died 10 years before, who heroically gave up her seat for her friend on the Titanic (Edith was a real person who gave up her seat for Caroline Brown) when one seat on the life boat was left, knowing she had children to go home to. As in most stories this one had name changes. (You know; when you see that list at the end noting any resemblance to real people is strictly coincidence) The Cast who I must applaud all stayed in character, no matter what questions that I asked them. They and many of the parishioners who came to pay their respects, were also dressed in 1920s attire. Of course after the service, a FRONT, they sneakily took a trip to the back River Room where all kinds of things happened including a rousing evening of booze, jazz and ---MURDER! (See pix + Videos) Dinner was included in the ticket price of $75.00. As was one complimentary glass of wine or beer, courtesy of Loughlin Vineyards with an open cash bar for more. For the fund raiser they also had tickets for purchase a 50/50 a door prize basket and other raffle baskets. CM Performing Center is one of the Long Island theaters for live performances. They also had a Valentines Craft Fair today and tomorrow 2-8-2025 and 2-9-2025 inside and was great to see artists and vendors selling all kinds of unique things. The Wang Center is beautiful and peaceful. And they have really amazing art installments that are impressive. This is a great place for students and staff and community and it is something to be proud of for Stony Brook university. It stands out as a landmark for centuries to come. IM Pei is the architect and it's an eternal work of art.

Great place for photography Reasons not to go to the Wang Center: NONE I have been to a series of events in this gorgeous building incluidng my white coat ceremony for the Dental School and some photography events that I have attended. I often study in this building as well due to the vast space they have and the fact that it is normally quiet and not too busy. Recently the art exhibit was changed and now there are 2 interactive rooms that are available to take pictures at. The entire display is gorgeous and fun to look at, despite some of their quirkiness. If anyone likes pop up shops definitely visit the newest exhibit and take some photos! Take a walk around the building and enjoy the FREE show.
