This is my dog, Dubu (Tofu in Korean)
Gi Hae P.

I was a little skeptical after reading the 1 star reviews. Long story short, I am in town visiting family when my dog suddenly started vomiting and having diarrhea. He refused to eat his food, BUT he wasn't lethargic or low energy (so I thought he caught a bad stomach bug or whatever it is that dogs be catching). I was on the waitlist for the ER in Bowie since yesterday, but it just took way too long to be seen. I luckily was able to be seen here at this AMAZING facility with AMAZING staff this morning. And the pricing?! SUPER AFFORDABLE, thank God I came here. I would've had to pay 2k out of pocket for my dogs condition. My dog has very high anxiety and is terrified of vets/groomers (probably bc I had him taken care of at Banfield, which was a huge mistake). Dr. Slovon was very upfront, super nice and super knowledgeable. I will definitely bring my dog here everytime I am in town.

I contemplated for a while leaving a review, but let me explain why we are Never returning here. I have a juvenile bearded dragon, she's about 6 months old now. My partner and I brought our beardie in to get an overall understanding of her health and wellness after purchasing her from PetSmart on 10/31/2021. The appointment itself was mediocre. They took our beardie as soon as we got there and told us to come back... okay, I guess. It took them 2-3 hours for us to get our beardie back and all they told us was that she was sick with ringworms (from eating the crickets at the pet store) and gave us 1 type of medication. Nothing less or more. The total cost of the visit, on top of the fecal smear and medication, was ~$300+. Granted they only had 1 exotic veterinary in for the day (we appreciate you for seeing our pet) so the time it took for us to get our pet back wasn't that big of an issue. The reason why we aren't coming back is because after we finished her dose of Rx, she showed more signs of parasitic infection. Of course we didn't know this at first, so we called the Gambrills Veterinary Center to see if they could help us determine what the issue was and if she needed to be seen. (We found out she had Coccidia at a different animal hospital). The lady who answered the phone that day said to me: "I am sorry your beardie is feeling this way, but unfortunately I can't disclose any medical information with you on the phone". ..? I was slightly offended by that.. especially since they have seen our pet before. That is the equivalent of not being able to receive medical attention for a trauma patient because hospital beds are overran with COVID-19 patients. Get my drift? They knew what was wrong with her. They also did not have any time slots available for us to come in, which we understood.. this was abrupt and out of the ordinary behavior for her. But she also did not do anything else to further help or ease our minds/hearts. My partner said "screw them, hang up" so I called a few other local MD veterinary / animal hospitals and even though they couldn't admit our beardie, they were AT LEAST able to redirect me to other animal hospitals who potentially could. (big thanks to Falls Road Veterinary and Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital for all their help in trying to find us an available vet). No luck with MD vets / hospitals that day, so we decided to drive all the way to VA (Pender Veterinary in Fairfax) where they decided to see us under "emergency circumstances" DESPITE being FULLY BOOKED. We were so grateful!!!!!!! When we had gotten there, our veterinary told us we were lucky to have called because if she was not seen on that day, she would've continued to have gotten sick and potentially die. They preformed 4 different tests here (ADV Virus, blood tests, calcium tests, and a fecal smear) and were Extremely thorough in their care.. they asked about her husbandry, her diet, and her overall behaviors. The total of this visit at Pender was $530, BUT they also sent us home with 3 different medications... I felt like they really truly cared about our pet here. Unlike Gambrills Veterinary. Thanks for jack shit. We didn't feel like our pet was in the right hands here and I hope the next time someone calls about their pet in distress, you show a little more compassion. And the best service when they come in. Our beardie is happy and healthy as of today.

buckle up fellas Please for the love of all that is good DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. my indoor cat ate some grass while outside then he started coughing, dry heaving, and his meows were froggy. i looked up his symptoms and it was most likely he got some grass stuck in his throat by swallowing wrong, but he was meowing as though he was in great discomfort and i had no idea if it would take care of itself. worried for my pet's breathing i just took him to the closest vet to get him care ASAP. i should have stopped to read the reviews but i thought a vet is a vet. incorrect. upon arrival, no one was anywhere to be seen for at least 20 minutes. once someone came i was told i will be charged a $150 emergency fee because i don't have an appointment. i said fine, whatever to get him help. they then took him and i told them specifically i think it's just some grass got stuck in his throat, i just want his throat checked. she said "that will be part of the checkup." i asked her if i could come back there with my cat and they told me no. i asked if i could just wait in the waiting room then while they check really quick and she said no it's part of the checkup i can go home they will call me later. i said ok fine, but how long can i expect it to take so i can plan my afternoon, and she said there's no way to know. i pressed more about how long, and she finally told me that she doesn't know because they are fully booked with appointments all day, so the dr will just fit him in whenever he finds time. this greatly confused me as i am not sure why there is an emergency fee so high if they are just going to fit him in whenever they find time. hours passed and i didn't receive a call or an update, so i called back, and they hadn't found time for him yet. 6 hours have passed i finally get a call from the doctor - he is seeing him now - and he asked for his symptoms and what the problem was. i not only told the people who checked him in, i also filled it out in detail on the intake form. i guess he just didn't read. he then tells me he didn't find anything in his throat and his coughing has stopped, but he's "licking more than he should be" so it might be something internally and he needs an x-ray to be sure. i'm worried sick at this point, and all of this information i have to seek out and only is told over the phone i have no idea how my cat is doing or what exactly is going on. he says it will be $750 total and i'm like ouch but i still say ok. he says he will call me back later today. i say ok. i have to be the one to call later only to be told that he took 2 x-rays and he found something in his lower intestine that "looks like pearls" so he said gave him some medication and they need to keep him overnight. i say of course because i believed him. he says he will do another x-ray in the morning and he will call me tomorrow. no call. ok, maybe he had a busy morning, but i finally call because i am worried. they tell me "he's in the middle of a surgery right now ill get him." which was an interesting thing to hear. in a few minutes Dr. O is on the phone, and i ask how my cat is. he says he did the x-ray this morning and the foreign object in his small intestine hadn't moved, so he gave him more of the medicine and said he will need to keep him today and do another x-ray this evening. if it hasn't moved, he will need "exploratory surgery". i asked him what kind of surgery and he said he will need to cut his small intestine open to see what's inside. i asked him if this was a dangerous surgery because i couldn't believe all this over some grass, and he said yes it was dangerous!! to quote because i'll never forget it: "there are risks, yes, your biggest risk is infection after surgery. but, there is no way to know what is inside until we cut it open, it could be a tumor, it could be half of his intestine is dead and we need to cut it out and reattach it, there's no way to know. that's why it's called an exploratory surgery. but he is a young cat so there's a pretty good chance he'll be alright." this is extremely disturbing information. there was no other option offered to me, so i felt forced to leave him there and just wait to see if it passed, even though Dr. O said it likely won't if it hasn't by now. i was absolutely terrified. they literally told me they are going to cut him open and he might die. all over a cough. he is an ESA, and after being increasingly worried and disturbed over his condition for over a day l had to call my mom. she told me to look at the place's reviews and thank God i did. we took him out and to another vet. thank you all for your reviews you most likely saved my baby's life. in the end, there was nothing wrong with him. he coughed up a blade of grass after i got him back. $1000+ for nothing but a headache. BUT IT STILL GETS WORSE.

I was skeptical about bringing my dog here for boarding because of the reviews. My neighbor had recommended this place because he actually works there and I was having bad luck with the OTHER doggy day care places nearby so I figured I would give it a try. Usually when we board our dog it's about 5 to 10 days when we go on vacation. When we would pick him up from OTHER places he would come back super skinny and smelling like urine. One incident he had bite marks on his head and this OTHER particular place gave no reason or explanation to why he had been bitten up like this. He would also be sick like throwing up blood and also having lose to with blood in his bowel movements and could not seem to keep his food down anymore. Anyhow when we took him to Gambrills veterinary it was a TOTALLY different experience! When we picked him up he look healthy and maintained his weight maybe even get a little fatter lol he did not smell and he was not sick at all! We have actually boarded him twice and each time we return to pick him up he seems to be well taken care of. This is definitely our go to now when we travel and have to board him. I'd recommend this business if you are looking for a place to board your dog! Princeton's parents

Dr. Orenstein convinced me to give my dog Simparica Trio as an alternative to the Seresto collar that was causing him to have seizures. My dog is 14 years old with some pretty significant health issues and this was still his recommendation even after I explained my hesitation with new products due to his health issues. In disbelief...

Looking for Mom so we can go daycare and play with our friends!

They require tests your pet does not need in order to board and the people answering the phone are not pleasant.

When she was done her coworker informed her she had another tour. She pouted because she said she had a sore throat. They paged a male employee. Are several minutes he came in from out front. They told him they needed him to do a tour. He made an exasperated noise and said he didn't want to. I stepped up and said since our business wasn't a priority, we would take it elsewhere. If they couldn't be bothered to give us a tour that they invited us to take, how would they treat our dogs. We could not believe we were treated so poorly.

They generally can get you an appt next day. The bad: 1. My pet has been seen here within the past 6 months. I called to get a simple flea and tick med refill. We are up to date on the heart worm testing that had been performed here. The receptionist told me I could not get the med filled because it is state law to be up to date on rabies vaccination to get flea and tick medicines prescribed. My pet did not have a rabies vaccine on file at the first visit, when they prescribed me a 6 month dose. They did not tell me at the time that a stipulation to refill would be to have proof of rabies vaccine. Poor communication to me, and gave me misinformation because it is not State law, but instead their individual policy for this company that they must have proof of rabies to prescribe anything else to you. I appreciate that the medical director did call me back same day and listened to my concerns. They filled the med as a one off, but it was very disheartening to have to jump through hoops to get a preventative care medicine that other vets would readily give because all that is actually required by law is a valid vet-client relationship which, for most vets, means they have examined your pet within the past year. 2. We had cytology sent away for my dogs lump. The vet called to discuss the results and said that not enough sample had been collected, but she was confident it was a lipoma. This seemed to be an error in collecting the sample, but when discussing with the medical director it was told to me that this was another miscommunication. It was actually deemed a lipoma per the lab. 3. We brought our 4 month old, 4 pound kitten is for pre-surgical labs for her spay. They said she was too unruly and gave us meds to make her calmer. We came back with her medicated and they were still unable to get a blood sample. This is not a feral cat, she is a well domesticated cat we have bottle fed since 4 weeks old. The vet that performed her spay was able to get bloodwork without pre-meds. Unfortunately too much "bad" outweigh the "good" for us to return here.

The website states that there are terf play areas. That is simply not true - none of it. We recently used Happy Tails as a last minute place (our usual dog sitter had to cancel last minute). The communication was not great at all. There was miscommunication about what updates I should be getting (we ended up with 3 over a 10 day stay). I called at least 3 times and it went to voicemail. I left messages and nobody called me back. I only got updates when I called and asked for them. I talked to 3 different people and got 3 different answers as to what kind of updates I should be getting. The only updates we ever got were 2/3 pictures on a "report card". Nothing about her well being or demeanor. When I picked her up she was FILTHY (it would've been another $50 - $70 to get a bath upon pick up). The amount of dirt I washed off of her was disgusting. She had open sores on ALL of her legs from what I assume were pressure sores from laying on the hard cots (not the orthopedic dog beds as the manager states). One of the sores was actively bleeding. A few of her toenails were split. When I questioned what happened they seemed shocked and took pictures and told me they would investigate and call me back by the end of the day.... 3 days later, still waiting to hear. She was exhausted....like wouldn't even open her eyes (and she's a 2.5 year old ACTIVE dog). I understand that its stressful and can be tiring, but she slept from noon until the next morning. For what we paid for our 10 day stay (super expensive) compared to the treatment we received we will never return to this place. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Ever. We will be going another place next time we need someone to take care of our furry family member.
