This veterinary clinic was recommended to me by a fellow animal lover. We recently moved back to MD, and my sweet pup needed to get his yearly exam and vaccines. He can be a bit anxious, but he was totally at ease here. They were kind, thoughtful, and thorough. The prices were reasonable, and everything was discussed up front. Unfortunately, there was a little miscommunication regarding one of his shots. He had a grooming appointment scheduled for Sunday when I noticed he was missing the vaccine on Saturday. We received a diagnosis of lymphoma for our cat on a Monday. I called and spoke with the front desk and the customer service rep was extremely kind and helpful. She reviewed our options for euthanasia, and I requested at home. She went ahead and took our information, gave me pricing and took a credit card so we wouldn't have to deal with payment while we were dealing with the loss of our pet. She then requested that we call back when it was time. Unfortunately, it was time within just two days. I called back Wednesday morning and they were very good to schedule within our needs. We had requested 5 pm, but our little girl was fading fast and I had to call back for an earlier appt time. Dr. Mike Golden came to our home at 4 pm to euthanize our cat. We were, and still are devastated but Dr. Golden was extremely kind and this was the least traumatizing euthanasia I've ever had to be a part of. I'm so grateful for the kindness and respect we received and highly recommend Veterinary Housecall Services. read more

Stay away! If you are looking for loving, caring and professional place for your fur babies this is not a right place. Horrible disorganized and dishonest environment. They won't help your animal when you really need it even if you are their patient. Very quick to sent you to emergency room. Erica The Receptionist thinks she is a doctor and gives out medical advices over the phone. When I called to schedule appointment regarding a gland expression Erica The Receptionist sent me with my cat to the Emergency Room as she said the gland was ruptured!!!!!! and she would not acknowledged that this was not an issue with my cat nor get an from vet tech or veterinarian. When my dog's regular vet couldn't see him for several weeks, even for urgent care, and the ER in Annapolis had a 15 hour waiting period, Veterinary Clinic & Housecall Service came to the rescue. They accepted my dog as a new patient and took the time to get his records from his usual vet and really listen to the list of things I'd been noticing. Dr. Ruth followed up by phone and e-mail with her findings and recommendations and offered her text # in case my dog worsened over the weekend. Given the reason I had to go (sick kitty), this was a wonderful experience. The doctor was very communicative, and she spoke to me like I was a colleague. I appreciated the very frank and medical discussion. She reviewed the x-rays with me, went over our options, let me know where she was being very conservative, and could not have been more open and helpful. I love this practice so much, I have known Dr. Schmoll for 30 years and Dr. Golden at least 15+years. It is so nice to have them come to me. It makes life much easier. When your fur baby needs to go to heaven, they can help, in the comfort of your arms in your in your home. Luckily I haven't had to go through that in 14 years. They have saved my pets lives more than once. I love them all and never want to be with out them. After trying several different veterinary hospitals and finding none as good as my previous one (Greater Annapolis), I discovered Dr. Ruth and Veterinary Housecall Services. Excellent service, reasonable prices, and she is extremely thorough! After discussing various options for my shepherd who was starting to have hip problems, ranging from adding supplements to seeing a specialist and surgery, she typed up everything we had discussed (4 pages!) to include food and supplement recommendations and names and numbers of specialists I could contact. She has always discussed all the options available and the pros and cons of each. This is an EXCELLENT place! I also did make use of their housecall services once, when I had two large dogs and a cat in need of vaccinations and didn't feel like stuffing them all into the car. Adds to the cost, but definitely worth it if you have an animal that's afraid of the vet's office. BTW, having worked as a Veterinary Assistant through high school and part of college, I think my expectations might be a bit higher than average. read more

Clean, modern facility in an industrial park type strip mall bldg. Was referred here yrs ago by several, heralding Dr. Nancy Ruth as the best & as having moved to this practice. Although not the best bedside manner (not many dr.'s do these days it seems) nor clear @ proceedings (ditto), she did go out if her way to empathize with & facilitate w/my budget restraints when she didn't have to/many vets won't. She also often rapidly hypothesized btwn several diagnoses which although often confusing & doubtful to me, indicated she was at least thorough, knowledgeable, & covering all bases. She also sent a very touching, enlightening email after I had emailed her an update that I had to have 1 of my pets put to sleep after a chronic illness became debilitating & was feeling racked w/guilt. However, a couple yrs later, when I went to inform her that another pet of mine, that she had cared for for some time, had passed on his own: I was informed by staff that she had a med. emerg. & no longer worked there & that they couldn't provide further info. Needless to say I was floored. I can understand privacy issues & all, but even when I kept following up weeks & months later: I was told the same thing & it wasn't clear whether they knew more but couldn't tell me or if they actually didn't. Mind you, I was also very worried for her health of course, not just for my pets to see her. Finally many months later, I tried again & was finally told she was working at another hosp. & actually told me which one, but no brief explanation of what happened (privacy taken into account of course), why she left the practice after, nothing. Just didn't think that was professional nor trustworthy. I was unable to follow her to new practice bc she moved even more distant than she already was from me at VHS. Also, like the other commenter said: review your services, bills, & Rx's bc miscommunication & billing errors were common when I'd go. read more

Here's the deal. This is a 5 star veterinary. I'm giving it four stars instead of five because they need some serious work keeping their books straight. Make sure the meds are right, make sure your bill is right, and make sure they perform all the tasks you have requested. JUST THE BEST! My family has used Dr. Golden, Dr Ruth and Dr Schmol for years and our pets have received the best possible care, I think that they are the best people around. I was not satisfied with the service we were getting from our previous vet and transferred here. The fact that they will come to your house if necessary is a really great service as it can cut down on the trauma some animals feel about traveling or going into the clinic. My family and I have been taking our pets to this establishment for easily over ten years. I have always been so impressed by the facility and staff. The facility is very clean and the staff are very friendly and extremely informative. They will always listen to you and really take time to answer any and all of your questions. Recently, one of my cats fell ill but we weren't sure why. They immediately fit my cat in for an appointment and were so accommodating and comforting since I was extraordinarily concerned for the well being of my cat. All of the staff are rock stars, but we had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dr. Kanackery (spelling?). He was so thorough, extremely knowledgeable, and very caring. He was able to get our cat back up and healthy and made a point to make several follow up calls to check up on my cat and see how he was recovering. This meant so much because it really proved to me how much they genuinely care about the well being of all animals being brought in. Even though I have moved about 35 minutes away, I will still continue to rely on this establishment to provide veterinary care for my pets. I have nothing but great things to say! read more

They are very friendly at Vet Housecall Services and accommodating. Having said that, we haven't had the same vet when we take our lab there. A lot of turnover for some reason. So there is no consistency. They said my dog tore a ligament in her knee. They tried to push me to get surgery right away which costs $4,500. I went and got a second opinion with another vet.... nothing was torn and my dog can jump and run just fine without any pain. Just letting you know my experience with this place. I'm not sure if they get some type of referral commission when they refer out. Be cautious going here. We have moved on and are very happy with our decision. read more

Brought my service dog in because he had been puking for days and couldn't hold anything down. The doctor told me he was simply eating too much was the cause of his throwing up. I was very persistent and told him that he wouldn't greet me at the door or eat any treats. Dr golden reassured me it wasn't anything serious and to get food spacer bowls. I took my dog to another vet to get a second opinion. My service dog died of liver, lymph node, stomach, and intestinal cancer. After refusing to pay my $200 (ish) vet bill from them, they tried sending it to collections. Keep your pets away from this place. If dr Golden hadn't been so complacent, I would have had at least a chance to save my service dog. read more
