I think they have a great selection of baked goods but they need to figure out this coffee situation. I've come here twice now, several months apart, and each time it's not crazy busy but still takes 20+ minutes to get my coffee. They just need to be more efficient. The baked goods also would taste a lot better heated up so definitely ask for that. When they're not they already can taste a bit stale. read more

Great coffee and pastries!! Super clean and organized. I keep coming back for the cheesecake. I met the owner in a farmers market in San Diego and followed her to Santa Monica, due to the delicious pastries. I got the cheese cake and honey cake today!! Delicious!!! Give this gem a try!! Sometimes people come into your life and change you into a better person...they're called Baristas. :D That being said let's delve into this awesome review. Galvin Coffee + Bakery is a charming little new coffee shop in Santa Monica with outdoor seating, unique drinks, sandwiches and delicious pastries. Perfect for coffee lovers! Today, I was excited to check this coffee shop because for months I drove past them on Mondays and they're always close. And I have been to Primo Coffee shop right across the street. I arrived on Saturday morning to check GCB. They have a warm and welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. I perused their menu drinks, food and pastries. I was perfunctorily greeted by a young white female trainee barista and took order. I was mesmerized by her beauty for a moment and in a nervous voice, I ordered a small Cold Brew and Croissants (butter and chocolate). Drink was smooth and perfectly made to my liking. Similarly, their high quality croissants were delightful to the palate. This created an experience that was both delicious and memorable. Ample of indoor and outdoor seats. Atmosphere was relaxing. Staff were cordial and competent. Street metered parking was abundant. Overall, I had a good experience and liked my drink and pastry. I will comeback and highly recommend them. read more

Another one in Santa Monica? Bring it on! And WOW it's Montana. Stepping into the venue, am in love!! High ceiling, perfect flow of natural light, plenty of treats, just the slow-living vibes. The venue might get pretty warm on a sunny day, but having the mini outdoor sitting area in front did help. Coming in a Sunday afternoon, I wasn't surprised that many of the pastries have been sold out especially the croissants. When I was sitting there, I could hear many guests coming and asking for the croissants and they kept mentioning they're super good, intriguing me to come back sometime soon to try. Another one they're popular for's their basque cheesecake. I, nonetheless, came for coffee only on this first visit as I'd just got my meal. Going for their signature dulce de leche latte, I'd say nothing complicated or fancy but it simply did the job pretty well. The coffee was decent and the caramel came as just right pair to it. One thing that's prolly bit unfortunate was I went for hot one but this came more like room temp (prolly should have asked for extra hot! Surely not the barista's fault and she's super nice!). I would surely wanna go back for their sweets so looking forward to next visit. read more

I loved this cafe. Unbelievable croissants (and I'm not a croissant eater), Basque cheesecake to die for, and my favorite: the chipas, Argentinian cheese bread. Great customer service too! However, they haven't been open for over a month. Does anyone know if they are closing permanently? It would be a real shame. read more

The best spot on Montana and it's not even close! EVERYTHING is delicious. I really hope they return, they've been gone for 3 months or so and using their space as a pop-up. Everyone in the neighborhood misses them. read more

Good spot for coffee and alfajores in Santa Monica. The people behind San Diego's Alfa Alfajores have soft opened their Argentine inspired cafe and bakery, specializing in the Argentine alfajor. These are tasty cookies that go well with coffee. I had a chocolate and a caramel filled alfajor, along with a dulce de leche cortado, which is about as Argentine as you can get here. Both were excellent. They also have other baked goods such as croissants, muffins, scones, a Basque cheesecake, and chipas (Argentine cheese bread). They'll be adding a few salads and sandwiches to the menu. It's a competitive coffee scene on Montana Ave. At the corner near Galvin is a Starbucks and Primo Passo Coffee Roaster. Up the street is Caffe Luxxe, Go Get Em Tiger, Peet's and other spots for a good cuppa joe. Certainly the alfajores are unique, and I'll find out if their other food offerings are as tasty. it's closest to everyone living west of 7th, and it helps that they have free parking onsite. Here's hoping they thrive in their new spot. read more

It was a Thursday morning and not very busy. A couple tables outside were occupied, but inside was just us until we were joined by another couple. Pastries looked good, and I selected a kouign aman to accompany my dulce de leche oat latte. The woman taking our order suggested heating my pastry a touch, so I said sure. My mom ordered an Americano and a croissant. We specified our order was for here and took a seat at the bar by the window. Coffees came out shortly, disappointingly in to-go cups, and my mom's croissant was in a to-go bag. Sigh. I could see plenty of fresh plates and cups, so it wasn't an availability issue. Several minutes later I still didn't have my pastry, and when I went to inquire she said she forgot about it. She apologized and gave me my very hot and rather burnt kouign aman (on a plate! -- as I intercepted her putting it into a bag). To her credit, she said to let her know if it was too overdone, but she followed it up with "but it looks alright to me," so I picked off the burnt parts and ate the rest. She should have just offered to replace it straightaway and not put it on me to complain. Maybe that's a me-issue, but I hate feeling like I'm being a difficult customer when the cafe/restaurant/wherever should take responsibility for their error. I won't outright avoid this place, but I also won't prioritize returning. read more

Very quiet coffee and bakery that smells MAGNIFICENT! They have house made almond milk that was pretty good, I would recommend to add sweetener to it and beware there seems to be some almond dusting leftover in the milk so it isn't as smooth. read more

This place is super cute and I'm excited that it opened! I came in the afternoon, and by that time, they had sold out of many of their pastry items. However, the server was very helpful in explaining what pastries were still there. I ended up getting the croissant with some seeds (I forget the name of it - but the server was kind enough to let me try the seeds to get a sense of the flavor). I thought that the flavor of the croissant was great -- I liked the taste of the seeds, but the croissant was a bit soggy. I wonder if it's because it's sat out for a few hours already. However, the star was really the Basque cheesecake! So delicious, rich, "not too sweet". Delicious! I'd come here to get more of the cheesecake and try other pastries next time. read more

Hmmm I'm not sure how long this place will last. It's across the street from one of the best coffee shops on the west side (in my opinion) and on Montana Ave. where there's other amazing coffee shops. This place was just OK for me. The menu is very confusing. It says, 'Sub House made Almond Milk'. When I asked if they make their own milk, the person up front said, 'yes but we don't put it in lattes because it doesn't froth.' I was v confused because I was asking for an iced matcha. So their 'homemade almond milk' doesn't go in your drinks? Guess not. My matcha was not great either - I could barely taste any of the matcha it tasted like watery milk. I also got the olive oil blueberry muffin which was dry and I was v disappointed because it looked amazing. (SIDE NOTE: Lots of little bugs flying around the pasties) Giving 2 stars because the guy at the front was very nice, and it was clean inside. read more

New cafe in a great location on Montana Ave. Very simple - serving coffee, teas, pastries. Very simplistic interior design with a few tables, plus a couple small tables outside. Definitely on a smaller side, at least for now as it's very new. Good selection of pastries. The best part - they have Medovik (honey cake) and basque cheesecake (not to be confused with regular cheesecake) which is quite unique!! I haven't tried any of them this time but it's amazing they have these on the menu. Seems to be dog friendly. Would come back again. read more

Ridiculously overpriced, very slow, poor layout and super stuffy inside, but worst of all, it's the LACK of warm & welcoming energy from the people who work here. Also if you ask them anything they seem extremely bothered by it. Honestly, do better or you won't last. read more

My favorite coffee shop at the moment. Great coffee and pastries. They have the normal things like croissants and cinnamon rolls but have more unique items like honey cake and alfajores. Highly recommend! read more

Another one of those bakeries where they think that the way he product looks is so much more important than how it tastes. Croissants were way overdone. They shouldn't be chestnut brown. A croissant should be tender and not leave a boatload of crumbs. Biscuits were beautiful! But the taste was meh. Way overpriced for the quality. read more

Terrible service. Complained about my ice coffee that was a literal glass of cold milk having zero coffee. Instead of helping me out, I Was asked to buy another shot of espresso. Banana bread was underdone. Sandwich- why have nice bread and put crappy American sliced cheese on it. Zero dressing or flavour. They see us sitting outside, but couldn't be bothered to come and tell us the order was ready. Understandable if it was packed but it was empty. First and last time we will be coming here. read more

So glad I finally tried this place. They have some of the best pastries! Don't sleep on this coffee shop option on Montana.

Galvin Coffee and Bakery has just arrived and it already feels like a seasoned neighborhood spot. Very easy to get addicted to their baked goods selection, varying from sweet to savory. I've been bringing them for friends to try and they all reach out saying how impressive the treats are. Ladies do an excellent job and are very welcoming. Space is bright with different seating options inside. Coffee game is strong and is superior to 90% of the shops on Montana. read more

Galvin is a clean, very organized and cute little cafe in Montana. The staff and the owner are friendly. They have lots of cool desserts and treats you won't find in other cafes nearby. The chipas are very cheesy and doughy and yummy, and their sandwiches are pretty good too. Their drinks are also pretty good and don't taste sugary/artificial. I hope their business does well and I would recommend people who live in the neighborhood come and try some of their treats! read more
