Lawrence at Kingdom Electric arrived the next morning and quickly diagnosed the problem and had it all fixed in short order. He glanced out our kitchen window and noticed Christmas lights on the porch and asked if there was a plug-in outlet outside on the porch. There was and the recent rain was dripping down the cord and setting off the GFCI, just like it is supposed to do. Lawrence wrapped all the exposed plug connections outside to avoid further problems.
