A great deal, except that the cushions were uncomfortable and the coverings were a cheap-looking red fabric that we really hated. We had refurbished our original Arts & Crafts chairs ourselves some years ago, refinishing the wood and replacing and reupholstering the cushions. We did a pretty good job, too. But that was then. Since that time, the wonderful Foam store in downtown Palo Alto has closed and we had no idea how we'd find the right foam for the cushions without seeing it and feeling it for ourselves. We are also 25 years older than when we did the first four, and much less patient. My husband started with one chair with foam purchased at Michael's but it was all wrong. The foam was too swishy and the newer chairs were a little trickier to recover. We looked into hiring a pro to redo the chair cushions and found Dan's. They were amazing. Beyond amazing. They whole job was done in two days. We took the cushions and the fabric into the shop on Tuesday. By Thursday, all eight chairs (the four new and the four old) were done and looking great. Not only was Dan's super-fast, but they came out and installed the new cushions to make sure they all fit. I bet you think that sounds expensive, but the price was great, especially for the speedy service and home delivery. We had envisioned a long and difficult project of re-doing the chairs ourselves, but instead we are now done with new chair cushions ready for guests we're expecting next week. We are delighted with Dan's Upholstery, and would highly recommend their services.

After making an appointment to…read morelook at fabric samples in their showroom, we were disappointed because we didn't find any appropriate fabrics (end use: upholstery) in the colors of my daughter's room. The man who was on site that day was nice but not helpful. In emailing Dyan later, I wrote that perhaps we should have come when she was there, because she might know the memo books better, and could point us in the right direction to find an upholstery fabric in a lavender or lilac color. Her response was that "Lavender and lilac are not popular in today's fabric industry, but we do have a selection of white upholstery fabrics." First of all, she's wrong. Mills and fabric houses offer plenty of options in lavender, lilac, and other shades of light purple. Just look at Kravet's, Robert Allen's, or any other to-the-trade website. I worked in that industry for 20 years. Second, that wasn't what I asked. I asked for her help, and I was told the color I was seeking wasn't popular and I could try a white fabric. (Of course you have white fabric!) This was not helpful, and to be told that what I was looking for is not popular is borderline rude. Her response put me off so much that I've delayed the project for a year. I'm now beginning the process with another upholstery shop and am reminded of my negative experience with Dyan at Dan's. Maybe if you get a better salesperson, you'll have a better experience. But I'll never recommend Dan's.

The sofa was a quality piece of furniture that I bought via House of Values years ago. The sectional was in great shape, so it didn't need to be replaced, just made better looking. Patrick at Cre-8-a-Couch (who made a different sofa for me a couple of years ago) recommended that I take my blue sofa cushion backs to George for re-stuffing. It took a few weeks, but when the cushions were done, it made my sofa look and feel new again. I dare say, better than new! George's cost was reasonable and his company did excellent work. I am absolutely delighted. When I was at George's place, I noticed the work they were doing re-upholstering several sofas and chairs. They do beautiful precision work. Do not hesitate to take your furniture to George and his team; they are really top notch!!!

However, all I received was an invoice. This invoice was addressed to "walking client" and listed the price of the order I requested. As listed, there was labor, fabric, and shipping charges. I was more than ok with the labor and fabric costs. But shipping charges? For what? I did not request the finished item to be shipped to me. I also did not choose a fabric, nor a color, so how are they charging me $45 in shipping? I asked a very specific question and there was no answer to my question. Just the invoice and a very high shipping charge that was not accounted for. There was no dialogue. No greeting. No invite to speak with them more about the order. Just an invoice. I had read that this company was very personable, kind, and do good work. I cannot confirm any of this from my experience and will not patronage a business unwilling to treat me like a client and not just a paycheck. P.S. I had a Chippendale chair with a broken seat base that needed to be replaced, but wanted to keep the fabric. Most places weren't interested in fixing something 'so small'.. So, I got on Yelp and decided to use their AI Assistant to find someone who could help. The responses came faster than I could have anticipated. The first one was from Leo at Leo's Upholstery. This was a business I was already considering, being somewhat close after 2 in Oakland. Leo's reviews are what sold me, outside of how responsive Leo was to my inquiry. I dropped off the chair, had a great chat with Leo about the chair, what we had done with it and other topics. He said it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday. I receive a text early on Tuesday morning, letting me know the chair was ready. We arranged a time and I came to get the chair. It was as promised. It's fixed (after many months of being damaged), it looks great, feels solid and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Leo will be my Go-To Furniture repair going forward.
