NEVER shop at Flegels! In 2017 for our outdoor patio, we purchased Kingsley Bate painted teak patio table and chairs from Flegels. We kept the table covered when it wasn't in use. In 2019, the paint started to blister. In my attempt to get this rectified, KB told me that Flegels had to file a report on my behalf. KB also informed me that they only recommend the painted teak for covered patios. Flegels refused to do anything. The owner's son, Brian, was rude and refused to listen to these facts: 1. When we bought the expensive teak furniture, the Flegel's sales person did not tell us to expect the paint would blister. 2. The 2017 catalog does not mention that painted teak tables were only to be used under covered patios. The owner's son said he had more valued customers who spend much more money than we did, and he didn't want my business. His statement dumbfounded me. We spent over $5000 on this patio furniture. But even if we had only spent $500, I would have expected respectful and responsive customer service. read more

This was, by any comparison, one of the best- maybe the best furniture store in the Bay Area. Just odd pieces left for this deeply discounted sale. They have been in business for 75 years but are now liquidating what's left and moving towards a much deserved retirement. Marci Krause was my designer for all three. She protected me from making unfortunate fabric choices and kept me in step with the mid-century look I wanted. Dina Ishibashi greeted us warmly upon arriving at the store and provided us expert assistance all during the ordering process. I agree with Karen E. We had the same experience. Mark Flegel would not return some pieces we bought. We would have been very happy with store credit. This is honestly terrible customer service and shows a lack of integrity on their part. We spent almost $10,000 on several furnishings so one would think they would want our future business. However, they were adamant about NOT returning a piece that measured out incorrectly. Their designer gave us misguided and mediocre advice. As per their policy he came to our house, took measurements and saw our current furniture so he knew what our needs would be when we placed the new order. Unfortunately, their designer had a very poor sense of dimension and did not fully understand our needs. As soon as the piece arrived we called Flegel's expressing our surprise and disappointment with the piece's very small proportions thus rendering it useless. We made several follow-up calls to our salesman and management expressing how poorly the piece looked in our home even after several weeks. They were adamant about not taking the piece back for store credit. It is a mystery how they stay in business. They appear to not have an interest in satisfying the customer and it surprises me that manufacturers such as Stickley and Baker would want to work with them. The many fictions in Flegel's dispassionate and well-crafted response below is indicative of a new trend in engaging web-identity consultants to protect an online reputation. Whomever wrote the response, it will not help ameliorate their bad management. Our experience at this establishment is an out-of-touch and customer-last philosophy. We spent greater than $150,000 decorating our home with furniture and advice from Flegel's. There was one coffee table that was we decided we didn't want. They told us custom orders weren't refundable, but they agreed to take it back for a $1,000 restocking fee. The table initially cost $4,000. We still have the table. We will never shop at Flegel's again. read more

I was astounded to receive a Private message from Mr. Flegel that I will post at the end of this review. He seems very defensive and seems to blame Yelp for the reviewers comments without addressing the personnel issues mentioned. I really do not like his attitude at all! Now, I can see why some of the older staff have such bad customer relations skills. The company attitude and direction starts at the top with the owners. Great service and product. I recently shopped for patio furniture and wanted to obtain Brown Jordan. Flegels sent a decorator(robin jurovich) to my house who helped select styles, colors and patterns. Very happy. Better yet was the bedroom set. Didn't think it would fit around my bed but the installers customized the frame, took it back to their shop and refinished it to look new and brought it back the next day. My wife and I are very happy with both the service and the quality of the merchandise. All in all a great result. They were willing to go the extra mile to make me satisfied. read more

I love shopping here. I've been a loyal customer since 2003. From designer to delivery to management I've had a good experiences. Big chain stores don't offer what Flegels can. I like being able to see the pieces in the store. If you are wondering which designer to pick Robin is wonderful. There have been quality issues with some items but each time Flegels has worked with the manufacturer to find a satisfactory solution. I really like the selection of Stickley and Baker in the showroom Gives me a better idea of what the furniture will really look like when it arrives, most places will whip out the catalog and not have the furniture they actually sell. Cathy and Al are both helpful, talented designers and customer service oriented. My favorite that I've gotten there is the McGuire beachy sofa/table chairs and some cool lamps shaped like pineapple and kind gives me Hawaii flashbacks. He asked me what I was interested in and in a very professional manner showed me what I asked for and some other items that I might be of interest to me. Before I placed the order he came out to my house and made incredible suggestions that made the room so much more inviting. I purchased many more items then I was going to because of his accommodating manner and his knowledge of design, color and helping me choose the right furniture in proportion for the room. We were searching for a new sofa and after several online inquiries for prices, Dina Ishibashi at Flegel's, was the only person who replied to me. We visited the store a few days later and she patiently showed us every sofa that fit our criteria. We found the perfect one which was not what I thought we would end up with! Martin called me a couple of days later to schedule the delivery and removal of our old sofa. He assured me that they would attempt to donate it first. Yes it's high-end and can be pricey, but they have great sales and reasonable pieces can be found. Our customer service experience (with Frank) was great. We were absolutely thrilled with our purchase. It's a step up from Crate & Barrel, etc. but there is a range (yes, including very expensive but the 2-star review below claiming $10,000 coffee tables is a big exaggeration, in case anyone is wondering). Worth a try if you are looking for something special. The first floor has the flashy, intimidating stuff so go straight upstairs for the more down-to-earth selection. read more
