The crust has a nice texture, not too thick, not too thin, not hard, fluffy enough. So far we have only had the vegetarian pizza there, which has a good variety of toppings, although I wish they would just put more; the sparse toppings are the main thing about Oslo pizza which I don't like. They add a bit of arugula after baking. This place is in a corner of what used to be a train station on the Holmenkollen Line; now that the line is part of the T-bane, it is unmanned, so I guess that probably provided the opportunity for this place to open. I wonder what is in the rest of the depot building; this place is actually really small, just the kitchen plus a little bit of countertop and two stools. Out front there is a bench and sometimes a single table too. So most customers come for take-out, but it's possible to eat there if the two stools or the bench aren't occupied, and you don't mind sitting right by the T-bane stop. It's also convenient to come on the T-bane for take-out. There is enough parking for several cars too. I would recommend them to put a couple more tables and chairs on the lawn inside the fenced area at the side, if they can get permission to do that; it seems to be a waste of nice space otherwise. We like to stop there after going for a hike on the trails up around Vettakollen (there is a spot along there with a great view of Oslo). They also sell some bulk candy and nuts.

The tables are communal, so you'll likely end up shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers which, honestly, is half the fun. When I went, the room was buzzing like a Friday night in Rome. The staff was absolutely slammed, and after 20 minutes of waiting I did the classic "walk up to the bar and smile politely" move. Worked like a charm as service came quickly after that. Pro tip: patience is your friend here. I ordered the bruschetta pomodoro (simple, fresh, no notes) and a margherita pizza with ham. Not trying to reinvent Italian cuisine, but they nailed the classics and sometimes that's exactly what you need. So, if you like your dinner with a side of chaos, chatter from total strangers, and the feeling that you've stumbled onto a local secret, Girotono is worth the climb upstairs. Here's to another stamp on the tastebud passport!

We came for the pizza and it was totally worth it - nicely charred crust in their wood fired oven. We also enjoyed a caprese salad with fresh buffalo mozzarella. Staff were friendly and efficient. Upstairs decor was nice and they have communal seating which gives it an extra family feel.

You also get to cook cheese and meat at your table. It's communal seating all at one large table, so be ready to meet your neighbors and chat. Everything was delicious and incredibly well done. You can also stay and/or camp there - we did in an RV. The views from the hall are fantastic as well. We also bought cheese and sausages.

There are two parts of this restaurant, the fancy dinner option (you must make reservations for this portion) and the cafe which is self service. My boyfriend and I did not know you needed reservations for the dine in option so we sat ourselves in the very welcoming cafe dining room. The menu for both are the same so no worries if you can't get a reservation. The self serve option can seem confusing initially but they have a lot of grab and go but you can also order hot meals by ringing a bell for the chef. Check out is right before you leave the self service area which makes it really easy. I felt the prices were really fair too. For food I got the meatballs and split pea stew. My boyfriend got reindeer with cream sauce and mashed potatoes. I absolutely loved my meatballs, they were sweet and savory, I did not really like the split pea stew though. My boyfriend loved his entire meal and cleared his plate. We also shared their most popular dessert which is the apple pie. It was really good, not too sweet which was perfect for us. Definitely come to this restaurant when visiting Oslo!
