Cavendish Lobster Shack - Lobster dinners with corn on the cob

This restaurant offers seating both indoors and outdoors. Interior is warmly decorated and lightly…read morefollows the lobster theme - very cute. We came here as part of a tour. It cost extra (~$60 IIRC) for a lobster lunch. We were each served a lobster and in the centre of the restaurant, they had trays of side dishes (self-serve). I don't remember all the side dishes but there were salads, soup, mussels. One con was that these didn't seem to get refilled as much as they should've throughout our lunch here (though we were told it would be constantly refilled). If you are part of a tour, my tip would be to fill your plate on the first round with whatever you think you'll eat. I usually take small portions and just get more after, but there was no more in this case. :') For the most part, the service was great. Our food was served almost immediately after being seated. The servers were very friendly. Food wasn't bad. I found my lobster to be just a teensy bit overcooked but the food is rarely ever perfect when you're part of a tour, because they have to prepare so much all at once.

We stopped in for lunch and we were early but the owner was very accommodating. We just couldn't resist having the lobster dinner. Came with mussels and a salad to start. The lobster came with corn on the cob and garlic bread. Right off the highway and lots of parking.

We arrived in town today and started looking for a restaurant. This was a great find. As others…read morehave said, it is a family owned business. Our server Brooklyn was wonderful. The food was delicious esp the chowder, lobster rolls, coleslaw, potato salad - wait- that's everything we ate. All wonderful! We are looking forward to returning!

Our group ended up having to sit separately because the waitress was concerned about not being able to walk around a larger table, which seemed unfounded and a concern that was waitress centered rather than customer centered. When asked about closing a window because cold air was affecting some in our party, same waitress said it was not possible because the kitchen needed the air... Well... five minutes later, the customers that took the table near the window simply closed the window to avoid the cold wind... Two for two! Not a great beginning. Ordered seafood chowder and fish and chips. What would you expect? Yes... seafood chowder is served first and once customers are done with it ... you bring the fish and chips. Logical, right? Not here. They brought everything together, which meant the fish and chips got cold while we had the chowder. Third strike... Anything else? Let me say this, the fried fish, in my opinion, was not great. First, you could taste "stale" oil (old oil). This alone turned me off. Second, there was little fish and a lot of breading, I'd say 70% breading 30% fish. So, if you combine oil taste with very thick breading you get what I got. To eat the fish I had to take the breading apart. On a positive note, the seafood chowder was excellent. As Luc B. review pointed out, it is a very basic family and kid friendly setting.

The place was kind of depressing it was empty and staff were on their phones the whole time. Multiple people came in and left because of the ridiculous prices. Our family has to navigate life with a severe nut allergy, so we were impressed when the staff took the time to discuss with us exactly which menu items were made in-house and safe. It's a mom and pop operation, they talked about how hard it was to find consistency and quality from the suppliers during -and after- the pandemic. We were able to find several food options for my son, and for him we ordered fried fish with a side of poutine. He was in heaven. Well, we all were, actually, because the seafood was delish. We even returned later for soft serve ice cream because they guaranteed it was nut-free. My kid has only had ice cream from a commercial restaurant maybe 2 or 3 times in his life, so it was a very rare and welcome treat. We definitely recommend Captain Scott's - both for their food and also for their family's friendliness and service. We love this place. Thank you!

A great place to eat, drink, and play in the sandbox!…read more The Sandbox Pub & Eatery is a restaurant and bar serving Canadian cuisine and seafood in a relaxed very casual and family friendly atmosphere. The Sandbox offers outside patio dining in the front of the building with a nice view of Route 6 traffic, as well as seating in the pub area and table seating in the lower main back dining area complete with a dedicated kids play area with a big sandbox. I have fond childhood memories of spending countless hours playing in the sandbox with my Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars & trucks. The interior of the airy dining area is finished wooden walls and high ceilings with colorful tarps spread overhanging from the ceilings in dining room. The menu offerings include chowders, salads, sandboxwiches, burgers, fresh hand cut fries & poutines, pasta, steak, chicken, seafood dishes, lobster dinners (cold or hot), and desserts. They also have a Little Sandboxers menu too! The prices here are moderate, most sandboxwiches/burgers (with fries or rice) $9.99-$12.99, and most entrees $11.99-$25.99. They serve Coca Cola beverages and beer (bottled & draft) and wine. After a visiting a few sights in Gables country, my friend and I took a lunch break in The Sandbox. Before entering the building, I had to pause and take a quick photo behind the colorful wooden board with painted Lobster with a "head cut-out." We sat ourselves in the lower dining room and the waitress arrived with newspaper print menus. For lunch, we ordered a bowl of Island Blue Mussels ($9.99) and a Fish Burger with Fries ($10.99) which was served to us in under 15 minutes. The mussels were very tasty and cooked just right in garlic, melted butter on the side. The FIsh Burger had a very crunchy piece of English battered haddock (not too greasy) with lettuce, tomato, and tangy tartar sauce on a toasted bun. The big pile of hand-cut fries was excellent, which deep fried golden & crisp to perfection. The fries were not greasy and the best tasting fries we've had in a while. The PEI potatoes used for the fries have that distinct sweeter flavour than other potatoes we've had. It must be that red soil here! The food was solid good and the service was acceptable, as the waitress checked up on us a few times during the meal. Several young sandboxers were seen having a great time playing in the sandbox near our table, and there were tracks of reddish sand on the floor leading to the washrooms. I wanted to play in the sandbox too, but we needed to boogie and stay on schedule for some afternoon driving around Eastern PEI.

We were greeted at the door by the fun lobster cutout, but there was no sign of a sandbox or kid play area... Well from the wall mural it seemed like there might once have been a play area In one corner, but it was empty at 7pm. We chose to eat outside based on that, and a friendly waitress led us to the deck. We were given newsprint menus with a small kids selection: hot dog, chicken fingers, burger, or fish. There was a coloring picture, but we were not offered crayons. Luckily we had some. For the food, we had been warned by our hotel to stick to the basics. We started with a plate of island mussels, generously heaped, and these were a hit. We had had seafood the night before, so we all ordered burgers. When I asked for my burger to be prepared "medium" the waitress looked confused and said she wasn't sure what that meant. Sure enough, all the burgers came out the same: well done, dry, and burnt. Not what I expect from a quality restaurant, serving good clean beef... Fast food places, sure. In comparison, the next night at Yvonne's I ordered steak medium and a) the waitress knew what I was talking about and b) it came out perfectly. The fries were good, service attentive, the side salads fresh and crispy, but what really saved the meal was the strawberry shortcake. Very nice.
