Just bought a push mower.. I stopped at Gales first very helpful associate but I wanted to see if there was anything cheaper comparing apples to apples not oranges. Looked at a couple places..exact price. Free delivery. Here's the difference. Gales $20 for delivery. Justin took care of registering my mower w/ Toro.so I could get the free side chute sent. I had also forgotten my manual at Gales.. When delivered within 1 hour sure enough it was included. Yes, I chose to pay extra . The great customer service, my endless questions were answered. With the staff workers, I always feel they're here for me. I've never had to hunt for someone to help. and the feeling that I made the right choice more then covered it read more

They treat you like family at this locally managed, independent, True Value. While the store is small, it seems like they carry everything. We stopped by to pick up a few items in prep for the upcoming snow storm. And, I picked up some bird (squirrel) food for my feathered friends. Prices are great and they send coupons if your on their mailing list of preferred customers. The staff is unbelievably helpful. We talked to the clerk about snow blowers and he educated us about the different horse powers and motorized verses battery pack models. If they don't have something, they will order it for you. And they offer repair services on some equipment (such as lawn mowers). The parking lot is easy in and out. The staff will help you carry stuff to the car. read more

The young man who helped me today could really use some customer service training. I got the distinct impression that he felt he was doing me a favor by speaking to me. So I recommend that if you want to get customers away from the "big box" stores do some customer service training . Because I certainly won't be back. I've had much much better customer service and prices at both Menards and Ace Hardware. read more

I've never written a review before but this one's worth it. Searching for license plate screws turned out to be more complicated than I expected. After unsuccessful trips to various hardware stores, including Lowe's, It was frustrating due to a particular issue with the nuts that ruled out the use of regular screws. I went up Gale's and they figured it out in 10 minutes. They genuinely wanted to help. Didn't matter that they weren't getting paid extra for it. I've been to Gale's ever since. read more

Went to buy some drawer pulls. They only had 3. I ordered 1 more. I waited a month. Finally went in. They said they hadn't sorted them yet and the would call me. I waited another month. Nothing. I went in this week. The drawer was full so I got one. I told the cashier what happened. Absolutely no comment from him. I will never shop there again. read more

Gales is the very best hardware store in the Kalamazoo area, and has been for at least the last 20 years. i have been a regular customer, and although some of the staff has changed in the last 5 years or so, the quality of service and merchandise has remained great. yes, sometimes you have to go to Lowes or Home Depot, but it is far more gratifying to support a well run local business. two thumbs up! read more

We needed a new Snow Blower, and found exactly what we were looking for. We were assisted by 2 different people, who both made extra effort to help us in any way. The filled out the warranty cards, and mailed them, found a way to save us a couple of bucks, and tested and loaded the Snow Blower in our car. We moved into the area and the first time I went into Gale's I was disappointed from the lack of service I received and swore I would never go back. Today, Phil noticed I was looking at the signs and he asked if I found everything. AND, I can get in, find, buy what I need and be on my way in less time than it takes me to park, walk across the lot and just find the right aisle at one of the big box stores. After a horrific and, sexist, experience at Lowe's (I didn't expect them to have the specific electrical tool I was seeking but, hoped they could order it for me) I ended up driving to Gale's out of desperation. At Lowe's, I was treated as if I was insane for asking for something as bizarre as an inside read folding ruler (I know, women in the skilled trades are so rare and scary!). They didn't know what I was talking about so, naturally, they treated me as if I didn't know what I was talking about and, essentially, refused to help me. Out of options, I drove to Gale's. The very first person I spoke to not only knew exactly what I was talking about but, found the product for me in less than 60 seconds. He then proceeded to follow me around the store (as opposed to passing me off to one inept craigslist hire after another) answering every insignificant question and making sure I was content. Yes, at Gale's you may spend a dollar or two more but, can you put a price on respect?? I, personally, cannot. Thank you very much for being a part of my city.
