So we have a friend who has become a long-hauler because of this miserable pandemic, and her family abandoned her because she is LGBT. So her friends have been helping here and there. My girl had noticed that she was unsteady taking a shower, so we decided to buy her a transfer bench for her bathtub so she could sit and bathe. (I had used one when I had my knee replaced and it made a huge difference during that time when I wasn't feeling that secure getting into and standing in a bathtub.) So I checked out what was available locally and on line. I found something perfect and that it was on sale at Menard's. (There is a 11% rebate thing on everything going on.) And the West Main Menard's, the on line site said, had two in stock. So off we went to buy it. I find big box stores overwhelming because there is so much stuff everywhere. I asked the first employee I saw for assistance. "Ah, sorry," he said. "We don't carry transfer benches for tubs. But I bet you'll find it across the street at Wal Mart." "Huh," I thought to myself. "How strange. The website lied?" I looked for the aisle that had "Bath Safety" as an identifier, went down the aisle, and on a bottom shelf I found the transfer bench I was looking for. And, as the website had stated, there were two boxes. I picked up one of the transfer bench boxes and bought it. They left a pallet of counter tops in the middle of our driveway and my wife could barely pull the car out. When the opposite garage door was wide open for them to put it in. Team VP has lived on the east side of Kalamazoo for nearly 15 years so having a home improvement store just three minutes away from our front door is super convenient. We have been doing a lot of plumbing work recently and every time we think we have all the parts there is inevitably something we missed and two years ago that would mean another trip across town to Lowe's or hoping that Meijer had some obscure thingamajig in its inventory. Now we can quickly go to Menards grab what we need and be home in less than 15 minutes. We have had two projects that needed a little ingenuity and even though Mr. MVP is undeniably clever, the Menards staff have always been there to share their vast knowledge of everything. One question brought staff members from three different sections (plumbing, hardware and appliances) and together, with what I'm guessing is generations of on the job experience, they solved our tiny little dishwasher problem. The prices at Menards are also very fair. Last summer we needed replacement deck boards the same day, so my Dad and I were dispatched to grab them. After I had made the purchase I looked up comparison prices at Lowe's and Home Depot just out of curiosity and Menards regular price actually beat Lowe's sale price. The reason for the four stars is sometimes Menards does not feel like a grown-up hardware store. At Lowe's they have a wide selection of microwave brands (we had to replace ours last year) and Menards has many generic names (the generic name brands is across the board on all things - faucets, appliances, parts, etc.). Menards also has many aisles dedicated to weird groceries and odds and ends that seem out of place. The store is always clean and the staff has always been friendly and helpful though. read more

Y'all need to offer sanitizer wipes for carts during this time. I saw an employee just yesterday impatiently tell an older couple, who were asking if there were any available, "the carts are clean!" We don't know that they've been cleaned! They looked confused as to why the lady seemed frustrated that they were asking for wipes. It was rude of this employee. read more

I generally speaking, I have always loved Menards, I've lived in the Grand Rapids area and have been a loyal customer. Until I moved to Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids has their act together, you can get in and out quickly, buy the things you need, this Menards is pretty much just built to frustrate you and operates like Menards did 25 years ago, which is so out of touch with customers it's unreal. Menards is a big box store where you tar likely to head when you need a widget of some kind to fix that leaky sink or toilet. If you know exactly what you are looking for, it is highly probable that you will find it; however, if you aren't sure and need to look around, you will likely be wandering around aimlessly for countless hours and come home wondering why you spent $125 on stuff you really didn't need in the first place. This might include a new patio set or enough insulation to redo your garage. They also have gotten into the grocery business and you might come home with 4 boxes of dog biscuits, 3 bags of chips, 2 cans of soup and a partridge in a pear tree if you aren't careful. read more

I like this Menards compared to the Menards in Portage (about 20 mins away). Much more space in this one, easier to find things, and a wider variety of lumber and landscaping supplies. My only knock is that several times they have not opened up an additional lane when the line gets long, despite their stated objective (add'l lane if more than two guests are in line). Not a huge deal, just don't have that objective if you are unable to achieve it. Other than that, the store appears to be run well and has a well trained, friendly staff. read more

Menard's has a secret side to it that I'm not sure many people know about (at least the one on Main Street) , there is a whole area dedicated to food, pets, and more. I'm not saying this should be your go to grocery store (there's no fresh produce and what have you), but you might just want to grab that 24 case of bottled water for only $2.69, or perhaps you do need that giant bag of Chex Mix while you're out working in the garage. There's a pet section here that has great low prices, Maxx Dog Food is 3$ less here! Also, raw hides, antlers, and various chew prices are unbeatable compared to any local pet store. I purchased a lawn edger and it stopped working the second time I used it. Menard's in Kalamazoo, MI wouldn't let me exchange it and I was told that I would have to take it to "their guy" to have it checked. I asked why the burden was being put on the customer and Gary from their service department said why should the burden be put on them. They are just passing product thru. Terrible customer service. I used to go to Menards quite often, but started with another box store, because of Customer Service and price. (Menards corner of 9th & West Main) Decided to go because of sale, wanted to buy 4 gallons of paint, supplies and light switch covers; as I walked into the department, service person looks around and walks out of the area. Picked out 2 of the 4 gallons that I wanted mixed, 2 gallons of primer, brushes, mixing sticks, 3 rollers with handles, tape and light switch covers - no service person. Waited 10 minutes, still nobody; looked for a bell or something, still nobody. Just about ready to leave and guy shows up, gave him my sample asked him to mix it and shake the 2 primer gallons no problem. He leaves, another shows up to finish the job. Asked if I could pay there, no. Went to the check out counter; these are the worst set ups for cashing out; it appears that the designer was confused, trying to first set up a self-serve lane, then decided to put a clerk there. All the clerk does is scan the stuff; you put it on the counter, she scans it and you bag it and check out. read more

this summer i got laid off. i edited books about 10% of the time, and nobody cared what i did with the rest, except most of them seemed mad at me. this summer i learned the word "co-dependent" and let it sit in my fridge. the guy from the verve pipe sits at a desk and writes things that i used to erase and rewrite completely. i bet he got my salary probably & i'd contest he can't be held responsible. the office dog got my desk. that is what i like to imagine. it was my fifth, consecutive, with lake michigan, and my last. i don't see the musical fountain with just anybody. i told you that. at one point i moved to texas and then didn't. my sister hasn't spoken to me since she eloped. (my sister eloped) i'm finding when you get comfortable with the new thing, the old thing creeps back up, like, remember when you were comfortable with me? no, i don't. yes i do but leave me alone. i had nightmares about my old job, followed by nightmares about fungus growing on walls where i sleep, followed by nightmares of kneeling near you and reconciling. this fall i met a lot of people. today is the first day of fall. i asked my boyfriend to come with me to a house where the president of the board of my new company lives. i joked, they call this richland, mi because the xxxxxx family is so rich. turns out, that family also owns the enormous company where my boyfriend works. and you know, i really like to hear him explain his job to old people. you know when you're hanging out with your mom and she tells the same story like 4 different times in 4 different rooms and you've gotta laugh with her all 4 times? have you ever heard a college lecture twice? i would pay to hear him repeat every dumb line from the big lebowski 100 times. let alone tell 8 different old people that it snowed in new jersey. an older man who went by 'wally' looked like my favorite college professor. he said, sometimes it's hard to tell if it's love or lust, and is he a keeper? and i said, yeah. and he said, give him & paintbrush and check back in 6 months. that's really what he said. it's a right-brained thing. the sunset on gull lake was the last one but holy cow. it was warm and i knew it was gonna be the only time. by the end of 'lost and safe' we were actually lost and safe. a couple of times you've said, the books are too weird, why are they your favorite band? also why are we driving aimlessly? you said, as long as you're still in non-profits, this is gonna be your stitch, and i'm gonna be your trophy boyfriend. i bought a diet root beer and a root beer at the gas station where i realized i was still wearing my "Hello My Name Is" nametag. at the apple orchard he told me his dad had a friend who went by 'the ace' and he would use a permanent marker on his northface jackets to create a kinda erasure poem that just said 'the ace.' this menards is empty as hell you guys. took a sick picture on my disposable. read more

Went in to Menards today to rent a pressure washer for a last minute project. I was helped by an extremely nice lady named Carol. I'm not much of a "Yelper" but when it comes to outstanding customers services like this, it leaves me with no choice! I went in frustrated due to having an open house in the next couple of days, preparing for an out of state move and working full time. I needed to power wash my house ASAP. Carol, is a no nonsense, funny, firm and quick with a joke lady. With the remaining projects I have to do on my home before it sales, I'll be dumping Home Depot in favor of this Menards location!! Out of all of the big box hardware stores in the Kalamazoo/Portage area, Menard's has the most HELPFUL and acknowledgeable staff who serve in EVERY department. The staff not only stop to ask if they can help or guide you in any way but they do not rush you or act like they don't want to be there. As a novice in a lot of the "fixer upper" type projects, the Menard's staff is willing to spend the TIME to answer your questions. They are patient and kind. One man in the tile department not only helped me answer all of my tiling questions but helped me load my cart with the items I needed. The outdoor lumberyard people are friendly and easy to talk to. They help you load up your car and I didn't have to waste any time hunting a staff member down. This hardware store is well managed. I also like how everyone looks and stay busy. Many times, when I'm at the other hardware stores, you see people drinking or eating on the job, or playing on their phones. One thing I noticed was they don't carry the RYOBI brand which I needed to buy a new battery for my RYOBI tool. read more

Oh Menards, my favorite holiday store. I love strolling through the enchanted forest, so pretty! I love all the holiday decor, they seemingly have everything you could want or ask for. I particularly love the old school outdoor decorations :) in addition to holiday decor they actually have a decent toy section and I've picked up many gifts here. I also usually end up with a random food item or two as well. In the spring and summer I visit the garden center often, great selection and prices on perennials. read more

I love Menards and this location is fantastic. The lighting is great, the items are plentiful and good priced. I love the rebates as there is always something I can find that I need. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 stars is that I HATE the cash lanes. I don't like walking behind the cashier to get to the end to bag my stuff (which I don't mind bagging at all). I am surprised that a company would want that risk of theft. I have walked behind the cashier many times when she had her drawer opened. I much prefer to have the conveyor belt in between us. I would hate to be a cashier there. read more

Bought a mower from them. A brand new $260 brute Briggs & Stratton that was on sale in the paper. Went to Menards and bought the mower. Took it home, used it once. Took it out again the following Saturday. The thing pooped out on me halfway through doing my yard. Plenty of gas, right amount of oil. It just sounded like it imploded. Had a two year warranty. Called Menards, said I had to take it to a shop an hour away that is only open weekday 9-5. Do I have to take a day off work to get my mower fixed? DO NOT BUY A MOWER FROM MENARDS! read more
