Always find what I need that I don't find in big box store. Prices are great & employees are very helpful and so polite.

Looked at a couple places..exact price. Free delivery. Here's the difference. Gales $20 for delivery. Justin took care of registering my mower w/ Toro.so I could get the free side chute sent. I had also forgotten my manual at Gales.. When delivered within 1 hour sure enough it was included. Yes, I chose to pay extra . The great customer service, my endless questions were answered. We stopped by to pick up a few items in prep for the upcoming snow storm. And, I picked up some bird (squirrel) food for my feathered friends. Prices are great and they send coupons if your on their mailing list of preferred customers. The staff is unbelievably helpful. We talked to the clerk about snow blowers and he educated us about the different horse powers and motorized verses battery pack models. If they don't have something, they will order it for you. And they offer repair services on some equipment (such as lawn mowers). The parking lot is easy in and out. The staff will help you carry stuff to the car.

Update 10/15/17: Over the summer, my husband and I ordered doors for our home. When we got them…read moreinstalled, our contractor told us our custom closet door was not made correctly, this doesn't close well. We've contacted HP customer service multiple times and have walked in to talk to them. We've sent emails or pictures and measurements to show proof it's a manufacturing problem and not an installation problem. We have YET to hear from HP. It's already been 2 months since HP said they will fix our problem. I'm losing faith with the portage staff of Hp since our experience with the staff is getting worse every time we walk through their doors. Furthermore, we found out the lady we enjoyed working with to order our doors quit her job when we asked for her help. Of the three big corporate home improvement companies in the Kalamazoo area, I vote The Home Depot to be the best one to go for your home improvement needs. Even though I like Lowe's design styles better, HD overall has the best customer service. I've bought my carpet and carpet installation from HP. Both flooring associates and the carpet installers were friendly and professional. Be prepared and expect delays on getting carpet installed. We set a date back in June 2017 and had to reschedule the install twice, and finally got the carpet installed in August 2017. After the carpet installers left, I asked them to leave us the left over carpet. What I found was a large clear bag full of the new carpet with trash and dirt mixed inside. It was disappointing to see all the extra carpet gone to waste. Furthermore, when I was reassessing my furniture, I noticed the installers broke my desk, which cannot stand up on it's own because one of the legs was broken from the moving furniture. Also I've ordered custom made doors. Buyers beware on which associate you work with. Make sure you ask for an associate that KNOWS and understand doors. We first had an associate that knows how to order materials online but didn't have the expertise in doors. This resulted in us returning half of our doors back because they were built wrong. HD customer service was very helpful in fixing our issues. Additionally, I got help from the kitchen design people to help me order two cabinet doors. They were very helpful and even called me at home to confirm sizes and to order online so I didn't have to drive back to the store. I would recommend this place because of the overall quality of the customer service in multiple departments, especially if you are looking to ordering/updating/installing anything in your home. The installers could do a better job in being more careful with customer's property and discuss how to move things around so furniture doesn't get damaged.

Mr. MVP and I had to visit Ace Hardware on Saturday morning because someone tried to break into our…read morehouse on Wednesday night. Three of our screens were cut (and a large window was broken) and the police officer who responded to our call suggested that we take the screens to Ace Hardware to have them replaced. I had called ahead on Friday and asked about screen replacement and was given prices - FYI a regular sized window screen is about $7 for a replacement and $14 for a replacement with heavy duty screen. Our windows are gigantic so they were four times that amount. Not a big deal. The older gentleman who first helped us with our screens let us know that the screen guy would not be in until noon so we would have to leave our screens and come back - no problem. We left our name and number and asked for help finding some locks. He guided us to the right place and offered his advice on which lock he thought might work for our needs. He seemed like he had a little bit of knowledge about a lot of stuff. He offered us popcorn, which we had to turn down and then he had to go help another customer. We then wanted to look at security lights. When we turned the corner we found another employee - again another older gentleman - who we asked to help us find security flood lights. He seemed very confident when he guided us all the way across the store and pointed down on a shelf at Christmas tree lights. This gentleman was obviously confused. Mr. MVP clarified that we needed flood lights for the garage and he paused and started walking in the same direction we had just came from, only this time very slowly. We took a small tour of the store, pausing multiple times before we came to rest in front of indoor ceiling lights. Thankfully, Mr. MVP noticed the flood lights around the corner from where we were standing and politely pointed them out to me like I was the one who was walking around aimlessly. We thanked our tour guide and shopped the rest of Ace Hardware on our own. I still think that gentleman is lost somewhere looking for lights. This Ace Hardware is clean and very well stocked. They have everything - tools, paint, hardware and even some clothing. There is a lot of stuff for the home and all the improvements we all need to do. Their prices were very reasonable too. We purchased a four set of locks and double checked the price on Amazon. Amazon had the same set for just 50 cents more and because we like to support local businesses we thought that was a good deal. We will hopefully get our screens back on Monday (there was a sizing issue with the windows being too big and the screen material being too small) and if we need something in the future we know we have another nice hardware store in our area.

Some Tractor Supply stores also fill propane tanks for your barbecue grill. The one on Shaver Road in Kalamazoo has propane refilling. Along with stuff for "the farm", they have clothes, shoes, and pet supplies. For those of you who are comfortable with "at home animal husbandry", they do have some of the shots that young puppies and kitties need available there. They have some great John Deere toys for kids too as well as wagons, trailers, and so many other things! The one they don't have -- an amigo at any of the stores so if you are handicapped -- bring your own scooter!
