Flushed our upstairs toilet and it decided to leak through the ceiling and into the kitchen! Darko came by that afternoon to take a look, told us it was probably an old seal, and he could fix it the next day if we wanted. We ended up deciding on our own to buy a whole new toilet because there were other issues with the old toilet that we hadn't fixed properly before and for aesthetic reasons (it was old, not low flow, etc). Ok, so when you have tried to unclog the drain yourself, and you come to the unfortunate conclusion that you have to get a professional plumber, you bite your lower lip and prepare for your pipes to be cleaned (pun intended). So, I went to Yelp! to find a good plumber. Lucky for me, I found Galaxy Plumbing and Darko, the king of plumbers! He is a wonderfully professional, well-experienced and licensed plumber who is honest as the day is long. I spoke to him around 11am, and he showed up within the timeframe promised, about 3 hours from my call. My kitchen sink was clogged and the water was backing up. I tried all the usual home remedies myself before calling someone. They usually work, but occasionally you have to call a professional. I first called a big name plumber company. They wanted to charge me $79 just to come out and diagnose the problem. In other words an "estimate". I asked if they could give me a ballpark number and they said "no". I told them I did not have outdoor access and I had a P-Trap, hoping they could give me some idea on cost. They still refused to give me an estimate (I wasn't asking for a quote) over the phone. I told them I'd call them back and that $79 charge quickly went down to $39. I told them I still did not feel right about paying someone $39 for an estimate when I have no idea how expensive it will be in the end. Even if I did not use their services I would still have to pay the $39. I'm not in the habit of paying for estimates, so I told them I'd call them back. I got on Yelp and found Galaxy Rooter & Plumbing. Darko had 5 stars and it seemed like people really had some nice stuff to say about him. From the reviews I did read, I could not agree more. I called Galaxy and left a voicemail. He called back within 5-10 minutes. I told him my problem and that I had a P-Trap and no outside access and asked for an estimate. Without any hesitation he gave me an estimate. I had used a big name plumber years ago for the same problem and from what I remember I paid more than what Darko estimated, so I booked him. He said he'd be over in about 2 hours. He showed up on time, wearing a face mask and shoe covers. He was friendly, he asked a few questions and got to work. Within 30 minutes he was done. He did not leave any mess and the drain was cleared. He asked me to check all the faucets in the house to make sure the clog hadn't just moved further down the line. I tested all the sinks and things were running smooth. He charged me exactly what he told me on the phone. He let me pay with credit card with a small fee (which was fine with me because he told me ahead of time). Based on good reviews on Yelp, we called Galaxy and talked to Darko about unclogging the kitchen drain, after failing to clear it with Drano and Instant Power. Unfortunately my last attempt with letting Instant Power to stand for a few hours corroded the garbage disposal, and we had to call Darko to replace the disposal. We made an appointment for the next day and Darko called 30 minutes before arrival. We picked a reasonably priced 1/2 HP Evergrind available from Darko's van and he installed it professionally. He placed paper towels underneath the sink to see if any leaks. None was detected. However, later, when we started using the faucet, we noticed some water marks, so we called Darko and he came back immediately to check. It turned out to be slow leaks from the supply line into the faucet. Darko said he could change the line or if we want a new faucet, we can buy one for him to install. As the faucet is old, we decided to buy a new one from Orchard Supply, a Kohler pullout faucet, and made appointment with Darko. He came out that day, power-snaked it and got it running. He left us with a 60-day guarantee and was on his way. A week later it was blocked again. He cleared it again for free, within an hour or so of my call. The third time it happened, he cleared it again (without charge) and scheduled an appointment to scope it with his camera as there was obviously a problem. When he arrived with the camera, he identified the problem, and we saw that it was from some poor work that a handyman had done, attaching the wrong fitting which collapsed. He charged us around $100 less than quoted for the scope and made an appointment to come out and fix it properly, which required digging down 4 feet and replacing the fittings.
