We discovered last year (yeah...took us a while) that they have an ice cream parlour inside of it, serving hand-scooped Thrifty-brand ice cream for a really, really value price. Well...due to a plumbing issue, it's been closed for months now...but we stopped by yesterday, and it's baaack. The counter is located right in front, left of the registers. Since there is usually nobody there and it's no different at Rite-Aid to find someone to help you, the right move is to stand-in line at the register and pay first. They will then call somebody over to help. It's $1.99 for one scoop in a cake or sugar cone, and they have a great selection of interesting flavors. I get the mocha almond fudge or rocky road, while other interesting flavors are coconut pinapple, medieval madness. It's scooped using a unique cylinder ice cream scoop, and they are very generous with the portion (one scoop is plenty...some staff will choose to give 2 smaller scoops to make the one 'scoop'). The ice cream is probably a bit below average in terms of taste and creaminess for a gourmet ice cream (reminded me of the ice cream you can serve yourself in a chinese buffet), but it's $1.99, folks. One can't beat the experience of walking back to your home on a hot, sunny SoCal afternoon, trying to lick the ice cream in the right places at the right times so it doesn't melt all over your hands. Ice cream trucks/carts don't seem to serve hand-dipped ice cream anymore, so this experience really reminds me of an earlier time. Now only if I could find a walkable Rite-Aid near one of our favorite beaches...

The store is clean and easy to shop, smaller than some of the other stores, and they sometimes are out of itemsI want, but pickup at the counter is very easy. As we talked it through, it suddenly clicked for him and he realized it would actually be back in aisle 10 in a different section. He walked me right to it and made sure I found exactly what I needed. At two in the morning when you are dealing with a crying baby, that kind of help means everything. Because of Vincent's patience, quick thinking, and willingness to go the extra step, I was able to get the gripe water and get my daughter settled so she could finally sleep. For some reason they decided to charge my medication through the insurance instead of using the manufacturers coupon. I home and saw a charge on my Amex for 1400.00. I had to go back and ask them to go through the manufacturers coupon and not the insurance, they kept arguing that my insurance covers it and I had to explain multiple times that I paid for the 1400 out of pocket. Eventually they agreed on a refund and then go through the manufacturer without the insurance getting involved.

Lo and behold, upon pickup, three hours later, it was NOT ready and nobody knew why it was just sitting in the queue. Regardless, if I had other prescriptions requested, I'm not sure why they wouldn't complete that one along with the others. Seems like common sense. I used to work in a retail pharmacy so I know things can happen, but this place has just consistently dropped the ball: not following up, not ordering when out of stock, not having prescriptions ready when promised. My husband has also had similar experiences. I just wanted a place that was helpful and reliable. Unfortunately, this is not it. And the customer service is more miss than hit, which only adds to the frustration. After today, I am working on transferring both my husband's and my own prescriptions.

The service I received was extremely poor, and some staff members behaved in an unprofessional manner I spoke with an employee named Imelda regarding my medication, but she walked away without explanation while I was in the middle of speaking to her. I was left waiting without any update, and she never followed up or checked on my prescription. I then asked for assistance from the manager, Jessie, but she did not take the time to properly review my situation. Even though I explained that my doctor had already sent the fax, she told me I could not receive my medication. Her tone felt impatient, and she raised her voice, which made me feel uncomfortable as a patient. Because of this, I had to contact my doctor again while waiting at the store. After they resent the information, the medication was eventually found in the system--but no one had taken the time to check thoroughly before. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes unnecessarily. I used to visit this CVS location often, and the staff was always helpful and professional. It was one of my favorite stores. However, after this experience, I feel nervous and uncomfortable returning, which is disappointing. I hope management addresses these issues, especially since this is a 24-hour location that many patients rely on.
