Unfortunately this place fell a bit flat to me. The guacamole was not good, it just tasted like pure mashed avocado to me without enough cilantro, onion and lime to give it that beautiful flavor. The salsa was alright but too spicy for me personally and the quesadilla was okay but was a bit soggy and kept falling apart. I know it's hard to keep a quesadilla together but I think it just needed a bit more toasting and cheese to bind it all together. Gaby's is a nice place for a variety of Mexican cuisine options. We stopped in for lunch and tried two of their lunch specials, chicken enchiladas and Chile Relleno stuff with beef. Each came with rice and beans. The enchiladas came with your choice of green sauce, red sauce or mole. The green sauce was delicious. All the food was hot and very good. This was my first time at Gaby's Cafe. I was up spending an afternoon in the area. I was seated quickly. It took a few minutes to have my order taken but it was a busy weekend day and the staff were hustling. The place is decorated with fun decor both outside on the patio and inside. My husband and I had dinner here with my sister and brother in law. I love the decor! The wheel chandelier with the tequila bottle lighting was very unique. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. I ordered the sea bass entree and birra tacos and split it with my sister. The sea bass was cooked to perfection with a delicious tomato based sauce with green olives. The tacos were filled with beef and the shells were chewy and flavorful. Our friends recommended Gaby's so we gave it a whirl. Chips and salsa are complimentary and a good way to start. My house margarita was pretty strong and my husband had to finish it actually. Better strong than weak for sure! My husband got a Negro Modelo on draft yum. We started with spicy guacamole which was a huge portion for the 2 of us. We ate some with our food but also took some home. The garlic shrimp appetizer was super delicious and fresh - we both loved it. My 2 pork and 1 chicken tacos were large portions, fresh ingredients and plenty of onions and cilantro, salsas and hot sauces galore. I brought an extra pork taco home I couldn't finish. My husband liked his burrito as well - which he could only eat half of. Lots of excellent food and leftovers. A great night out. Service was excellent and ambiance was nice and colorful. My only issue is that the menu nor the waiter said that a 20% is already included. So we wound up giving a 40% tip. Boyfriend and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. The placed looked nicely decorated from the outside and inside. I immediately noticed all the tables had real flowers placed in small vases which was such a nice touch to the decor. They were fresh flowers too! (I pay attention to small details) Staff were incredibly sweet to us and provided great service! My boyfriend had a hard time choosing between entrees but staff were great with their recommendations. I ordered the steak fajitas and it was so delicious! I will say our entrees came in big portions so we had to take a lot of it to go. The staff is a bunch of friendly accommodating individuals who suggest delightfully and serve impeccably. The inside is south American and cozy, sitting a few dozen with ease of getting fresh food to table. The outside is reminiscent of a wonderful village eatery complete with hanging flower baskets and real wooden tables, none of that plastic resin faux furniture. My veggie quesadillas were great (not a vegetarian but once in awhile I love getting veggie Qs when they have great ingredients- zucchini carrots eggplant). Finally we found a place on the corner but when we got there we noticed it was less of a bistro and more of a bar, so we randomly went into Gaby's cafe. We were so pleasantly surprised that it had the space for our group and they attended to us so quickly. The ambiance was very quaint and chill. I will explain why I'm only giving 3 stars, but I need to admit, the food was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Not a bad bite. The flavors were perfect, portions were fair, and it was just wonderful. Now, we arrived and ordered our appetizers and beverages, when our waitress Bethany (she's so sweet) came with the drinks she took our food order. The appetizers came out and less than one or two minutes of having it on the table, the entrees came out.... Not cool! It should have been timed better, especially for my next reason. We came as a group of four. We all ordered chimichangas. 2 orders of pulled pork, 2 orders with beef chimichangas, extra sour cream on the side, one with no cilantro. The lady who brought the food out had no idea what was on the plate she said "chicken?" We said no we didn't order chicken. She said oh beef, right. "No cilantro?" "No cilantro" she said as she put down the plate, my friend cut into her beef no cilantro platter to find chicken. I cut into mine to find beef to cilantro. So I swapped plates with her and we told Bethany that we needed one with beef and cilantro. A while after, another plate was brought out... CHICKEN AGAIN?! I told Bethany and she was shocked. (That same food runner lady had attempted to bring us two other plates that we didn't order so she was just very confused or something idk). However, I told Bethany just to cancel my order because at this point everyone was done with their food. I asked for a few more chips because there was still some filling from the nachos I could snack on and I was definitely still hungry (as I hadn't eaten much that day, or at all the day before oops!) Anyways, I waited and waited for the chips to come out but Bethany brought over another chimichanga platter and said they gave me the wrong one. I cut into it.... Beef no cilantro (I had said like five times I love cilantro and made it clear I wanted cilantro and extra sour cream). It took us up until that point to even get the sides of sour cream. Anyways, if the food had come out properly timed out-apps first, meals after... and made properly, I would have given 6 stars if possible but it was just awkward for me to sit there and watch the confusion and then have to hold everyone up to uncomfortably eat last. The food is definitely out of this world and is definitely worth going for, I will definitely be back. Must have just gotten them on an off night. The staff is so nice and the complimentary chips and salsa are brought to the table promptly along with cold water. The margaritas are wonderful. They have a broad menu. This place is absolutely delicious. The food such as the cheese quesadilla is so delicious. It's always cheesy and delicious with sour cream. You can even have fresh lemonade that they give you. They even have fried ice cream! Which is sooo good! They give you delicious vanilla ice cream in the middle with a crunchy corn flake outside. There's also more to this. The service is awesome. They are always on time and they even serve at Cohens as well. They're so kind and have a lot to them. The place is also clean and well stocked. I ordered steak fajitas with sautéed onions and got a plate filled with nothing but onions and steak that was enough to feed my 5 yr old grandson I don't mind paying a high price but atleast feed me a decent amount. I had so much onions that it looked like I ordered a plate of onions and a very small amount of steak. I had enough onions to make 3 more meals I couldn't even enjoy it at all. I am furious at Gaby's because of their service fee. I was charged almost $5. That is outrageous. The staff was attentive and I had planned on giving a 25% tip. But when I saw the bill, I reduced it slightly. I realize it is not the staff's fault but I just could not see adding so much to a bill that is already $5 more than expected. A business in the 21st century needs to accommodate many types of payment without penalizing the customer. Instead of looking to the customer to cover those charges, they need negotiate a new deal with their credit card processor. That's what I do in my business. It's possible. However, as a person with COPD, I was very disappointed to discover that the street was closed which required a rather long walk to the venue. The noise level in the restaurant was very loud. I downloaded a db meter. A safe db level is 70db. The db levels recorded during our visit registered 105db for a high and 100db for an average. read more
