We were in town to see all the Lincoln sights and we wanted some good pizza after a long day on our feet. Based on the reviews on Yelp we decided to give it a shot and we weren't disappointed! The pizza has a very nice thin crust that's really crispy. The sauce is good and the toppings were plentiful. It's hard not to want to eat up every bit of it, it's so good!! The staff is really friendly and we felt right at home with what seemed like all regulars. Just an all around great neighborhood place to sit back, relax and enjoy some good food! I read these good reviews and wished I had the chance to try the food and actually give a review about food. We came in last weekend for the Annual Jon Davis open and were looking for a restaurant near our hotel to eat and didn't get that chance. One of the members in our party reserved a table for 6 and the Host stated 10-15 mins. When the rest of the party arrived (maybe 5 mins after the reservation was made, we watched 4 more parties of 5+ be seated and the host continued to load the excuses to why we were still waiting: "Oh, 5 more mins..., we're putting 2 tables together now..." to be honest they were all a load of BS. After the third time of going to him and asking what was the delay, he sounded disinterested and said he wasn't sure. I had to leave right away so I didn't make a scene. I was with 3 children, 2 other adults, black, white, Mexican all from a part of Illinois where we all live together and can reserve a table with no issues and with 10 times the amount of traffic. I'm not stupid and pull racism out of situation with my eyes closed. This was completely unacceptable and I'm disappointed these kids had to experience this. I wouldn't go back to this place if they threatened my life. The host is a coward, should be reprimanded, and go on a field trip to a neighborhood where he can learn that racism gets you nowhere... P.S. I'm sure the pizza sucked anyway...(this place only gets one star because it won't let me give zero.) read more

Thwy have some of the best pozza in town but to me the pasta leaves much to be desired. Rather bland could use a bit of seasoning. Before covid they had much bigger pieces of cake and im not sure if you can dine in yet, they used to be one lf the busiest dine in places but never opened dining room back up but i think they have a new parking lot paved and will be in the near future. read more

You can't mess with years of experience and excellence. It is what it is. They don't do substitutions. But you will be satisfied with the final product. The waitress served a combo salad for the two of us at our request and was a nice, adequate serving for both. The 4 item pizza (sausage, onions, mushrooms and peppers) that we "added" green olives in lieu of green peppers was absolutely incredible!! The crust is a real deal crust--no frozen crust here! My family decided to order Gabatoni's tonight because we had such a wonderful experience when my husband passed last year. We had a good size order, a pizza, two horseshoes, burger/fries, fries and two poor boys with a 2 liter of Pepsi. They said it would be 45 minutes. It was more like 90 minutes. Our food got here and there was no 2 liter. Very sad for 5 thirsty people. The delivery person ran to a gas station and bought one, which was extremely nice... but really? The poor boy (which I've had before) was extremely dry. I was choking. The bread was oddly cut and toasted on the edges hard. I can't express the dryness. I had to gulp water after each bite. Although I've heard great things about their pizza, it was definitely nothing to write home about. The crust was just okay. Thought the kids ate pretty well until I cleaned up after they left and found two full order of fries and two burgers from the horseshoes. My son had wanted subs and o talked him into this. So I spent $79 on something that would've cost me $40. I'll listen next time. read more

We ordered a Medium Pepperoni Pizza. It was to say the least underwhelming. The pepperoni was out flavored by the massive amount of cheese, you could barely taste the sauce. However if you peeled the massive layer of cheese off, you were left with a delightful pizza, that highlights their home made tomato sauce and you could taste the pepperoni. It would be a 50/50 shot to order again-maybe it was an off night or a new chef, but we ended up scrapping our $18 dollar medium and grabbing a 13 dollar Casey's pizza. read more

Second time visiting this pizza establishment while visiting Springfield Illinois. For being a Chicagoan, their pizza isn't bad. I haven't tried anything other than their specialty pizza, the chicken Alfredo which isn't lacking toppings. Maybe I'll be brave enough to try a regular basic tomato based pie next time. Great Italian restaurant. Been a Springfield mainstay for years. That's gotta tell you something about them doing things right.

Sunday evening and place was packed! However they did a good job of cleaning and turning the tables when they emptied, so we only waited about 15 minutes. Food was great! We started with the combo appetizer (Orings, mushrooms, mozzarella sticks) big portions great for party of 4-6 people. Then we all got something different. Buffalo chicken pizza, chicken Alfredo pizza, pepperoni pizza, and spaghetti marinara. Everyone was very pleased and would order again. My buffalo chicken pizza was one of the best I have ever had. I'll say this, the pizza is fantastic! But the atmosphere is for the birds. I'm grading this place mainly on the quality of the food, because it deserves the rating. This place has an old, well-seasoned oven that makes every pizza nice and crisp. Very thin crust with a slightly-charred outer edge. Yummers! Sauce is somewhat sweet and the cheese is great. This trip, we ordered a small (7") cheese pizza for my wife, a large (16") pizza for the rest of us, and a toasted ravioli as an appetizer. All were delicious! Now then, let's talk about dining IN. The place is very small, dingy yet is packed every night. Tables & chairs are wobbly and straight out of the 60's It was extremely hot on this visit (February in IL, so heat must have been on). Circulation was horrible. Gets noisy too. They've just crammed as many tables & chairs in this small space as they could. Leaves you feeling like the people next to you might as well be sitting on your lap. Then there's the clown-in-a-box toy in the front lobby. It scared the s**t out of my son & me! Sign said "out of order" so I was looking up close when it just went berserk and started jumping around and laughing REALLY loudly. My kid was crying for like 10 minutes. I was on the inside too. But I digress... They do offer carry out by way of their drive-up window. They offer parking in their lot, but the lot has more holes in it than a brick of swiss cheese. Dress code is VERY casual (think Wal-Mart). They do deliver all throughout Springfield. They're also opening a new restaurant somewhere in Springfield in March or April 2010. So be on the lookout for that. But it will take some time for the ovens to get good and broken in. If you like Monical's type of pizza (small cut pieces, very thin crust) then this place is a must. It's a bit off of the beaten-path, but well worth trying. Despite the lackluster atmosphere, the flavor of the pizza more than makes up for it. Isn't that why you're really going anyway? read more

I agree with others who say this is probably the best pizza in town. I had toasted meat ravioli and everything but anchovies pizza. The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the pizza was absolutely delicious. I usually don't like onions on a pizza as it can make it too watery, but this was not a problem at all. I also thought the crispy thin crust was absolutely fantastic. We took half the pizza home. We reheated it in the oven and it was still just as tasty and crispy. While eating in the other room, the dog found it absolutely delicious as well, eating the remaining quarters left on the counter. If there is any negative it is the price. The fact that a large multi-topping pizza cost nearly $25 is a bit much, especially for Springfield. Nevertheless, we liked it so much we had another one a week later. As out of towners you never know what to expect from a local restaurant. We were extremely shocked and pleased! We walked into the wrong door and walked into the bar area. It was very busy. When we went to the correct area the hostess asked if we had a reservation. We told her we did not and she quickly found as a table. Many tables were reserved and there were several big parties. The menu was relatively simple but all good choices. We had a couple of pasta dishes and a sandwich. The salads were fresh and delicious. The food was definitely above average but what really stood out was the service. Our waitress Susan, was fantastic! She kept drinks full and plates cleared. I always get pepperoni pizza, I'm basic like that, but I love it. Pretty much any day of the week a reservation is helpful, but if you don't have one they'll try to get you in as quickly as they can. Came here for dinner with a large group of family and friends following my Uncle Marc's memorial service. The staff was beyond accommodating, with a variety of pastas, salads, and bread served buffet style. The space between tables was extremely narrow and difficult to maneuver, but in retrospect they did a great job fitting so many people in such a small dining room. Thank you for taking such great care of my family and helping us end a mentally draining day on a much better note. read more

Horrible tonight. Started calling for take out at 4:30. Several attempts before I received a ring. Busy signal for a good ten minutes each time. They answer, put you on hold and then after 4 or 5 minutes you are disconnected. This happened twice at 4 pm on dec 23. I thought it was odd that when we entered and I told the host that we had five people, she had a slight "deer-in-the-headlights" look and walked away from us without saying a word (presumably to ask someone where to seat us??), then came back and brought us to a table. This place and its owners have been a part of my life since I was seven years old! Hands down the best pizza Ive ever had to this day and I am 55 now! We have seen only a few changes to this little place in all those years! Its small, busy, and sometimes a little wait but so, totally worth it! Pizza is amazing but so is everything else! Pasta, salads, sandwiches, Chicken Livers (the only place I will ever eat liver of any kind) mushrooms are to die for! This is the whole package!
