Came to this place after reading the positive yelps. We were in town for the State Fair and were looking for some good thin crust pizza. Gabatoni's came through and served us up some solid thin crust. The crust is tasty, light and cracker-like in texture. We had three toppings and it held up quite nicely. The pepperoni and sausage toppings were good quality and were provided in more than ample supply. The only drawback with the 'za was the sauce which was a tad bit too sweet for our tastes. We also ordered the onion rings which were quite good. They are batter dipped (the batter has some nice spice and is quite garlicky) and just a good piece of deep fried goodness. Now for the bad part my fellow yelpers. The only drawback with the place is the service/atmosphere. While the hostess who seated us was quite nice, the waitress was not friendly at all and seemed disinterested until she presented us with the check. This place is a bit off the beaten path and is clearly a joint frequented by the locals - which in my view is a good thing as we tend to look for alternatives to the national chains when travelling. I think the regulars were on to us "tourists" as we heard a loud conversation about how much they hate the state fair because of all the traffic and visitors that descend upon their hamlet and muck things up. Really too bad as they shouldbe happy that people are pouring some dollars into the local economy. Despite the less than stellar ambiance of this place, you should check it out if you're looking for some good thin crust pizza while you're in town...just don't let the regulars get under your skin for invading their club. read more

Very friendly pizza joint. Super crowded on a Friday night (so call ahead!), but they found a place to squeeze us in. Lovely staff. Seating is really close, so if you like space between tables (or even at the entry door), this isn't the place for you. We we're passing through town, so didn't mind being so close to the locals to not feel like outsiders. We had pizza and garlic bread. Garlic bread and marinara was A+! I give the pizza a B. Had to put parmesan and pepper flakes to add flavor. I'm from Chicago, so I need a lot of seasoning on my pie. But, the pizza was still good. Would definitely recommend and go again. read more

Favorite pizza in Springfield! We dined here on a Saturday evening and it was packed! I recommend calling ahead of time because pizzas may take up to 40 minutes. The building has been here for years, it's very retro, so don't expect anything fancy. Try their homemade toasted raviolis and get an extra large pizza because you will want leftovers! read more

Being in Springfield we were not sure where to get a good pizza at. We heard of a few different places around the downtown area but we decided on this place as it got some good marks on the internet.We got there and it seemed small and more of a local townie type of place.We ordered the garlic bread with cheese and this was very good with lots of cheese on it. We then got our pizza that we ordered and it hit the spot. This is the place I'd recommend as it was a thin crust pizza and the sausage was very tasty and hit the spot.This seemed more of a local hangout and they had a bar in a a separate room.If your looking for a great pizza or even Italian dishes in a informal setting this would be the place. read more

Have been a customer for over a decade, and today I am done giving this place a chance. Today we ordered two pizzas, an hour and twenty minutes later we received our well done pizzas nice and cold. I've been coming to Gabitoni's for 20+years for a reason. The pizza is always perfect. Their thin crispy crust is nostalgic. I suggest to get the chicken Alfredo pizza an I always ask for my pizza a little well done for the extra crispyness. Only downside is that it's really tight quarters in there. They definitely pack you in like sardines but it's well worth it. read more

Still very good pizza, great service! But....it is pricy, we got a medium 4 topping pizza + two side salads (just cheese and 1 slice of cucumber) and two ice teas and it was $36+ without tip. Hands down best pizza in town. Staff is long term and cares. Other menu items have never disappointed either. My teenage boys always chow the meatball sandwiches without hesitation. Only advice is ask for extra sauce on your pizza. Once in a while a little thin. read more

We ordered dinner from this location after discovering the other location was closed. Gabatoni's website provides their contact information and menu, but it is a basic menu. There is no pizza sizes listed, crust type or prices for any of their menu items. The website doesn't say anything about extra charges nor was I told when I placed my phone order that I was going to be charged a $3.00 base rate plus $0.40 per item for delivery. The pizza was okay, it's a soft thin crust but it was oily. Other than the oil the pizza wasn't bad, we ordered the four topping special. You could tell there was onion, green pepper, mushroom and sausage on the pizza and neither item's flavor over powered the rest. The other items we ordered, potato skins and hot wings, were good. The wings were spicy but still had flavor and the potato skins were thick and had the perfect volume of topping. We received the order hot and with disposable silverware. They delivered the order right to our hotel room as well. read more

This was a restaurant that clearly hasn't updated anything since the early 1980's. The food was ok. They charged for every little extra. And extra dressing cost 60 cents. Two of our dishes were stuck together by gum. I have had better. read more

My family's favorite place for pizza. They made a thin crust convert out of me. The EBA - everything but anchovies- is the best. The also have excellent fried mushroom and chicken livers. There is usually a wait on weekend nights so make reservations or even use carry out. read more

The wife and I will make the 60 mile drive just to have a night out at Gabatoni's. The place has an aged atmosphere but it is a great place for a pitcher of beer and a delicious thin crust 4 item specialty pizza! This is a local place and if you like thin crust pizza - not what places call thin crust that is really medium crust - with a crust that will be crisp with a few air bubbles, with a good special mozzarella cheese that gets just a little browned, with toppings that are fresh and diced (they are not chintzy on toppings and FYI: sausage doesn't have fennel seeds), in a place that has a bar eating area with numerous flat screen TVs, along with a restaurant area (just remodeled), great servers, full bar with cold bottled beer, then this is the place in Springfield to go. They have a full Italian menu but whenever I am in here, I get the pizza - it is all about the pizza. They have been here for over 60 years and usually crowed by 6:00. I think they do take reservations. Has a large parking lot and quite a few tables. I've never had a better pizza anywhere and I've tried many (never been to Italy). read more

I am a local frequent customer of Gabatoni's. I have always gotten their pizza which is amazing. Tonight I decided I would try the lasagna. Huge mistake. It was super large and could serve 3 people. The contents had good flavor but there were NO noodles in the whole bowl. It consisted about pound of melted mozzarella and meat sauce. It was inedible. Never order this item. Stick to pizza. I don't want to start this out by saying this is the worse place i'v ever eaten, because i'v never been to a soup kitchen. first of all the place looks authentic with the white cloth square tablets, which makes you think you're about to try some real local mom 'n' pop style italian food, with all this in mind i decided to try a pasta dish, the mariner with mushrooms which comes with a salad, as expected the salad came first which you could tell has been sitting around as it had a yellowish colour to it, they also give you half a pound of salad, after 15 minutes of eating i was only 25% done, so i pushed that to the side when the entree came, first thing i noticed was the bright red pasta sauce, the kind you get from a jar in aldi, and the mushrooms well they where just thrown under the sauce not cooked in like i was expecting, nether the less i tried it and it was even worse than aldi, gabatonis have managed to make a worse tasting sauce than most can's, charge you $8.45 for the privilege. so if you're looking for an authenic italian experience go anywhere else. read more
