On a recent trip to Evansville we were looking for a quick lunch. The most basic of lunches - burger and fries. Sometimes you don't want something corporate or fancy or clever or original or novel, you just want a great burger and fries. The first criteria was nothing corporate...nothing from some big-ass national chain of assembly line, pre-processed, over-priced, redundant food. Enter GD Ritzy's. We'd driven past GD Ritzy's the previous day and within 5 minutes I was Yelping and Googling to see what it was about....and I liked what I read. I had even looked at the menu so even though it would be the next day, I knew what I was going to order. On this particular weekend (Memorial Day weekend) the dining room was closed, so we got into the drive thru line, which wasn't too bad, given it was 12:30 in the afternoon. The line was moving pretty quickly. I ordered a double cheese burger with everything and fries (and a HUGE ass Dr. Pepper®), my wife a plan hot dog and onion rings. From the time we ordered to the time we got to the window was less than five minutes. A quick exchanged of cash for food and we were on our way. Since the dining room wasn't open we drove to Vann Park to eat (it was about a five minute drive) where we landed on a pic-a-nic table to have lunch. I don't know what it is about local eateries but that was, no joke, the best burger I've had in AAAAGES. Commercial/chain restaurants are more about productivity, but this burger from G D Ritzy's was AWESOME. The ratio of toppings to burger patties to cheese was absolutely spot-on. The fries (shoestring fries) were good, but they're never my go-to. My wife said the hot dog was good and I was able to sneak an onion ring from her and it was killer! So our first visit to G D Ritzy's wasn't just a success, it was "holy cow, this is good, we're going to visit again the next time we're in town!" good! Catch you on July 4th weekend! read more

Came here for ice cream on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Ice cream was good. Service was terrible, kid didn't say hello, mag I help you or anything when we paid. Restaurant was nasty, floors were dirty, food all over the floor under tables. Windows were nasty, chairs and high chairs were greasy and stained. This place has really gone down hill. After a fun night visiting Evansville, my friends & I were looking for some good grub before leaving town on Sunday morning. One of my friends (Shout out to Daphne A.) went to undergrad in Evansville, and she suggested this place. We trust her, so we went along. The outside and inside slightly remind me of Steak & Shake meets an old diner. I had this peanut butter & jelly sandwich... something I don't think I have ever ordered at a restaurant! It was pretty great though, but I wish I would've ordered milk to go with it. The bread was white and thick, and milk (which is on the menu) would've helped it go right down. But regardless, it was good! I also had french fries (Yeah, it was a bit bizarre...), which are shoestring-style. Not the best ever, but they hit the spot for the grease I was craving. (Yeahhhh...) They also have the typical burger 7 such fare, if you don't want PB&J. ;) After I ate, I went back up front ice cream. There are a variety of delicious flavors, which you can sample. Any of them can be made into a milkshake, which is what I opted for... That hit the spot too! Yum! This is a 3.5 star place for me. It hit the spot and I would definitely eat here again. I just ate at the Greenriver rd store. 8:00pm Tuesday night. There were several people working but I was expecting the same quality that I have had for the last 30+ years. They had a stack of burgers pre cooked and fries that were just dropped in the grease for a few seconds to reheat them. Just very poor quality. $8.85. For bad food. I went back to counter to get a regular scoop of ice cream and the ice cream was good but it was barely a jr scoop. Another $2.50 for a half scoop of ice cream. Please close the store sooner in the day if you Don't want to maintain the same quality level as you have during the day. read more

I lived in Evansville for just about 2 years. Thank God I left when I did. Otherwise by now I'd be on my way to a stint on one of those shows where they have to cut down your wall to get to you and climb over piles of GD Ritzy's bags to get you out with a forklift. This place is SO good. From the minute you walk inside, you're reminded of that little greasy food/ice cream shack/drive in most of us frequented as kids. The fries: thin, crispy heaven. The burgers: drive-in great. Nothing gourmet here folks - greasy, melty and with super-fresh toppings. The staff: mostly high school kids but they are very disciplined. They wear the little paper hats and everything! The PB & J!: Crazy good. They use thick bread, chopped peanuts and sliced strawberries! Perfect combination and great for the kiddos. The ice cream: home-made and pretty good but not the best I've had. (Sconnie bias) I have no idea how McDonald's and Burger King stay in business in E-Ville with a place like this around. Ice cream was awesome, service was subpar. I rated this a 4 because I was blown away by the thickness and flavor of the ice cream, but was not satisfied by the service at all. The ordering setup was strange to begin with (everyone is corralled into a small area near the registers by a barrier, then must find a way to exit the area without bumping into those still waiting in line. The cashier was also rude. My grandma asked if they had any ice cream with reduced sugar and she stated "no." I replied that the menu stated they had "NSA Vanilla" and inquired if that stood for No Sugar Added. She scoffed and said that was what it stood for and mumbled something about meaning something else? Not sure what she was getting at. Regardless, I'd go back for the ice cream alone, and hopefully get a new cashier. read more
