Always a favorite stop when in town! It's been around for many years and you could say it's the home of the original "smash burger" you hear almost everywhere when a new burger joint opens in todays world. Thin, crispy edges, loaded with flavor cooked pretty much right in front of you as the flat top is a mere 10 feet away from the counter. We had a to go order for a large group. Everything came as ordered. I had the chicken sandwich which was juicy and not overcooked. The shoestring fries were crisp and not too greasy. We stopped in this fantastic diner on the recommendation of a recent HS graduate. What a vibe. The smash burgers were fantastic. Ordered a basket with all the works (minus onion... yuck). The burger was perfection. The basket came with a side of coleslaw that was really delicious. Way better than average. The shoestring fries were ok, they were fries and that particular presentation I don't care fore... give me more potato please. But I digress... the quirky nature of this diner looking place made the meal even better. I am curious about the self proclaimed "World's Best PB&J" but that will have to wait for a return visit. That and I really wanted some ice cream and that counter looked fantastic, with scoopable flavors abounding. All in all... great stop for a diner burger with a quirky nostalgic ambiance. read more

@gdritzys Nostalgic on many fronts; my Ritzy's adventure was great. I worked at the Ritzy's in Aurora, Colorado in the early 1990s. This location had identical layout, both in the dining room and behind the counter. Even the flooring and carpet was the same. It was as if I were time traveling. A tear came to my eyes. The food was fresh and amazing. The old fashioned chocolate soda was delightful. I had cheddar fries. And a double ritz with cheese. And a cherry Sprite. In a basket! I made a special one and a half hour out of my way trip to come here. I drove straight from Denver here. An adventure. I highly recommend GD Ritzy's. This is quality and goodness and happiness. Go. Service was awful, food was less than good. Sandwiches looked like they got beat down by a mallet. When my food was ready, nobody called out a name to a number. After they had given my friend his ice cream I asked if the bag sitting on the counter was mine and a guy said "idk probably I didn't bag it." I had to ask further questions before a lady told me that it was indeed my bag. Did drive through and ordered a double Ritzy with cheese. I watched through the drive through window as the guy made my sandwich with only one glove. He ended up making a single with no cheese. I opened it to double check and the cashier asked if anything was wrong, I told her I ordered a double with cheese. She immediately apologized and said to keep the burger they would make me a new one. Then she came back and asked to see the burger and showed it to the line cook. We were on our way back from Louisville and where driving near Evansville and heard literally 4 commercials for this place back to back. I was thinking what the heck now we have to try it. After a 25 minute detour through winding country roads we got to Ritzy's. Once inside I had a hard time with the menu, it was a little strange and hard to read but I saw a sign when I came in for a combo for a double cheese burger and fries and a drink. My wife got a single with fries a drink and a scoop of ice cream. When I ordered the sandwich fer her I ordered it plane and with cheese. Also it was very confusing on how I would get the ice cream. They said I needed a token to get the ice cream but they were out of them so they circled the ice cream purchase on my receipt. Even after that I was still confused as to what I was suppose to do. Anyway on to the food. The burger was good but it could have been much better, it was a little thin kind of like a steak n shake burger but even more flat. My wife's single burger was barely there and when we got them hers was missing cheese. I went back up and they quickly took care of it. I was glad that they took the patty and put it back on the grill to melt the cheese. The fries were allot better than any other fancy cut fries I have ever had. We also had Cheery coke that was coke with cheery syrup put in it, it was better than the premixed cheery coke you get from the store. I did finally get the ice cream it was just a little odd that I didn't get it when I received our food. My wife said it was the best strawberry ice cream she has ever had. This place really took you back to a time way before I was even alive. It was a really cool place to finish off our vacation. I really feel like we didn't get a great value for the price we paid, but it was good for what it was and the service was good. read more

Ritzy's has been in the Evansville area for years. When visiting the west side I always make at least one meal at Ritzy's. Their menu is similar to Shake and Steak, except you get portions that match the prices your paying and 100% more tasty. They have Chili 7 WAYS! Great tasting steak burgers, and even the peanut butter & jelly sandwich looks tasty though I haven't had one. As a bonus they have real hand dipped ice cream with around a dozen flavors. The style is 50/60 dinner with antique signs & old rock & roll 45s playing. A great meal and friendly priced. $$. read more

Went to the drive thru in Evansville, IN on a cold night, Dec. 17th, 2012. It was fast and easy. I got a simple burger and small frieds, my bf had a double burger and frieds and we split the orea shake. The burger was good. I was expecting more than it actuallly was, but it was good. Liked the fries, wish there were more. The shake was awesome. The shake was the best part. The burger sort of reminded me of a better Big Mac. Wow! I eat here on a very regular basis. Their salads, burgers, fries, onion rings, and chili is the BEST! I love it all. I always order root beer there, it goes great with everything and gives you that "old fashioned" feeling. We had been here quite a while ago & thought it was good. We stopped there tonight to get a quick meal & was very disappointed. To start with the place was very dirty. The carpet was supposed to be a green color, but was so dirty & greasy looking it looked black. On top of that it didn't look like it had been cleaned for most of the day as there was trash & food all over it. We ordered a double burger, Atlantic cod, fries, large shake & regular shake. Okay to start with the double burger was ok to average, nothing special for the price & a bit greasy. The cod was barely average, small for the price. The fries were very good & best part of meal. Now for the shakes: both were average, nothing special for the price. Biggest complaint on the shakes was that for a $1.15 more in cost the large shake is barely larger than the regular. When you stand them side by side the large stands about 3/4" taller, maybe and that's a big maybe 1oz more shake. In other words DO NOT BUY THE LARGE SHAKE IT IS A BIG (LARGE) RIP OFF!!!!! I have rated this place with 2 stars just because of the good fries. If not for them I would be pushing it to give it a 1 star. Next time in town we'll find a better place to eat! Won't be stopping in here anytime soon in the next few years! read more

Great old fashion hamburgers and the shoe string fries are good also. But the ice cream is the best. It's homemade locally and is very creamy. I have not tried the pbj sandwich but I saw one with strawberry jelly and it had fresh strawberries on it too. Give it a try. read more
