This Asian market is quite large, very quiet. There's a small produce section, some furniture, an entire tea aisle, some home decor - think vases. The usual staples: noodles, sauces, beverages, candies and cookies. I did see some unique KitKats for Halloween or with orange! Great Southeast Asian grocer. Huge supply on most staples, sauces, frozen foods, and even cooking supplies and table ware. Upside: Any staple from Burma to the Philippines, Mongolia to Samoa. Frozen foods a plenty. Sauces, oils, soy variants, flours, dry ingredients, and sweets and tea/coffees Downsides: Far weaker on fresh veggies and fish/meats. Professional Asian-focused cookware had a poor selection. The iron wok I was looking for simply was not there. Prices are fair; shopping can save you money here. I love this Asian Grocery Store! They have really affordable produce and a wide variety of Asian products. The people working are always so sweet and I like how they repurpose shipment boxes at check out. The only thing that makes it 4 stars for me is the pricing. I get that the imported goods are more expensive, but I did see $8 chilli oil which is a bit pricey. As one wanders through the store that is G&L Import Export, one wonders what the "G" and the "L" stand for? "G"oods that scream, "We come from the land that produced the "G"reat Wall". "L"ook at the merch on the shelves, but buy at your own risk. Are you in the market for, Attractive and fairly-authentic-looking replicas of Chinese cloisonne vases which are priced about the same as dusty plastic cookie containers with cartoon characters on the top? Frozen produce that is so frozen you can't tell if it's meat or vegetable, or something that's non-edible? Inexpensive and uncomfortable Chinese rosewood furniture in the for the MIng Emperor/Empress in all of us? G&L is the most unique Asian market I've yet seen in Tucson. Large pieces of modern and Chinese replica furniture jumbled inbetween rows of dried instant noodles, plastic-bagged veggies in coolers, and an interesting selection of East and SE Asian foods. Prices are en-par with other Asian markets in town and the fresh produce is pretty fresh, considering that the aforementioned plastic cookie containers are about $15.00...and it's just the containers, folks - no cookies inside. A portion of the store shelves are completely empty, further giving one the feeling of having entered another dimension. Like a, "Back to the Future", where the future is filled with joss sticks, Furikake for rice and Chinese room dividers inlaid with peacocks and peonies. read more

I really enjoyed visiting the store. However, the service I received was only average, which is an important factor for me. If you don't mind a lack of warmth in the service, then it's an okay option. Personally, I prefer Kimpo Oriental Market as they have a smaller store but better product selection. I have been shopping here for over 15 years. There was an older woman that was so kind. Even if they didn't have the beast selection of products we tried to support them, because they are close by and we want to support our local businesses. I can't anymore. The store is has become very expensive and the employees are not nice at all. I hate to say it, but I'd rather just drive to Lee Lee's instead. My girlfriend and I enjoy collecting pottery and plating that resembles eastern Asian aesthetic. I found this store to be very appealing in ambiance and content. They had a wide variety of foods both frozen and prepackaged. (If you're looking for diverse flavors in rice paper for spring rolls, here's the place). Their knickknacks, plates, gyoza steamers, and kitchenware were of a wide variety and ranged in price. I enjoyed the authentic cups, vases, and statues. I had no problem maneuvering through the storefront. I'll definitely be returning for more snacks and plates! read more

I'm not really sure what happened to this place since I don't think it had new management or anything but G & L Import Export Corp now has a serious problem of keeping expired food and food that is stale on their shelves letting it "infect" other foods. I came here to buy some ingredients for pho and spent $20-30 on rice noodles, anise seeds, etc. The date checked out so I figured oh good, now I have all the ingredients I need and I can get started! You could just TELL the noodles had been surrounded by other old stuff - they kind of seeped in this really nasty flavor of all the other stale foods, kind of like when you let bananas sit next to your bread for a week and then your bread tastes like bananas. It also proceeded to make our entire pantry smell like stale noodles which was not fun :( We spent so long on making the pho and it was absolutely ruined by the ingredients this store provided since the taste got into the broth too! So, you say, just because the noodles are nasty that doesn't mean that anything else was! Well I also bought a brand of Japanese crackers I've purchased here before and they tasted the same - stale with hints of everything else in the store and completely inedible. A while ago I also bought some bargain bin ramen too and it was obvious it went on sale because it literally tasted like dust. We usually bought our big rice bags here but we will NOT be returning to G &L ever again. It's pretty obvious that the store is too big and that they can't maintain stock when half the store is full of stale/expired food, some of the fridge hinge doors are broken, and there are many spots where dust visibly lingers. Save your money and make the trip to Lee Lee or any of the other smaller oriental stores that deserve your business. read more

This is not a fancy supermarket, but it's fascinating to walk around through the aisles to see what they offer. They've remodeled recently and are now offering more items. read more

It's no Lee Lee's, but when I don't want to make the hour long trek, it will do. It's a great place to stock up on noodles. It is mostly Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Pinoy,Vietnamese and Thai- with a bit of Hawaii, Europe, African and Middle Eastern thrown in. When you enter, the produce is to your right. Grant Stone and Lee Lee's has a much nicer selection. However, they have a great selection of rice, noodles and spices. The prices are great too! We stock up on a variety of Pho soup bases. When I run out of my beloved Maesri curry pastes, I can run here in a pinch. They also have my favorite Chaokoh coconut milk. I have had my eye on the Lumpiang Shanghai, Filipino spring rolls in the freezer section and I would love to wash it down with the Yuzu flavored beer. They have the cutest Hello Kitty training chopsticks. They come in bright purple, red, green and blue with Hello Kitty on top decked out as a mermaid. It makes me want to ditch my flatware completely. It is located in a strip mall, next to a now defunct dim sum shop. FYI-there is a minimum for credit cards. read more

The place is cute and I've smelled worst Asian stores... the lady who is at the counter is very friendly and helpful... the place is very centric for us northeasters... ok so that's the good news... bad news... 8 dlls for regular commercial soy sauce you find at Fry's or other place for like 5 dlls? I don't think so... everything is SO expensive! I get it, it's international, but some things are waaaay cheaper in regular grocery stores. Many things have no label and no price at the produce section, no way to know what they are, and after going to the lady in the front 2 times during my first 5 minutes there... it get's kind of embarrassing bothering her so much, sothere were many things there I had no idea what they were... and lastly and saddest, THEIR LIVE CRABS: it broke my heart to see them in a small carton box, like 20 of them piling up, horrible!! I know you will kill them, but PLEASE, give them a descent place to like while they wait to be killed, there was a lot of places to put them in a more human way. after being here in tucson for two years, i've finally found an asian market on my side of town. i'm pretty sure i kept hearing about this place from the owners of a restaurant that i visit, but, i could never remember the name or location. after going wayyyyyyyyy across town for different asian food products that are essential to me, i thought i'd search for something on the east side. the thing that i was really excited about was buying thai sticky rice (sweet/glutinous rice). across town, i never knew which one was actually the one i was looking for (and the staff really never helped me). back home, my mom would always buy it and we'd have it on hand, so i never knew what to look for. i asked an employee at g&l just to be sure that i was choosing the right product. he helped me pick out what i needed. also picked up some pork rinds and dried shredded pork. they go so great with sticky rice! my daughter was even excited to pick out a cute pair of learning chopsticks near the register. glad i'll be able to come here next time instead of driving 45 minutes just for a few items. read more

I think this may be the best Asian market in Tucson. I say that based on their huge selection and balanced variety of different Asian countries' foods. I was mainly interested in produce. Unfortunately, they had no fruit at all, and the vegetables were wilted/shriveled. The selection overall was poor but I did find one young coconut. Unfortunately, it was rotten when I opened it at home. As others have mentioned, the inventory turnover is low and not managed well. The parking lot was empty when I was there. That should have been my first clue. I guess there is nothing on the east side for Asian groceries. You'll have to drive to Grantstone, which is pretty good or way out to Lee Lee's. read more

Like Grantstone market, I wouldn't be going here for fresh vegetables and the like, but for dry and preserved foods and hardware it's good. I just love this place. The owners and workers are super sweet and extremely helpful. They love Walter and let me bring him without a second look. But who doesn't love him, anyway great place to buy coconut water in bulk. They have fresh produce but best to go on Tuesday when new stuff comes in. i would give them 5 stars if the fresh produce hadn't been near expired and even with that if i could i would give them a 4.5 the place looks tiny on the outside so i was quite surprised by how big it was once i was inside , they have a fairly large selection of food items but i don't think i would buy their fresh fruits and vegetables (i went the day before they got new stock in so i may change my opinion on that after going on a day when the fruit and such is fresher ) the staff was friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable if not cheaper then what i expected read more
