I've visited this store three or four times and purchased merchandise twice. Each time the staff have treated me with distain. While waiting in line to pay I noticed the staff were friendly and chatty with the two customers ahead of me. When I stepped up, their demeanor and faces changed immediately, and the look was like they had just tasted or smelt something disgusting. I usually don't jump to this, but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm mixed race. So no more trips to this KKK outlet. read more

We didn't end up buying anything from here, but I enjoyed my experience perusing the very large store. They have a lot of beautiful southwest furniture that is a little more subdued and tasteful. The prices are very reasonable as well. I would probably return in the future when I need to re-up on some more furniture and/or decor! read more

This spot is such a Tucson gem! We are currently planning our wedding and had to stop in to purchase decorations. We were able to purchase two huge bags of tile, paper banners, paper flowers and two gorgeous Mexican vases for under 150 dollars. This spot has a fantastic collection of furniture, lamps, Frida Kahlo pieces and everything Mexican decor related. My husband and I went here to get a coffee table and tv stand. We found pieces that were close, but not what we needed. The snotty ladies that work here made no effort to help us even though we circled the store twice looking at large pieces of furniture. We finally had to go to the cash register and get someone's attention - as in, we walked up to the register and they STILL did not look at us. We asked about what different pieces they get and when and we got a irritated explanation that you get what you get. You can buy off the floor or go to their website. Want two pieces to match? Good luck, according to them. The whole experience felt like they have no cares and if we didn't like the options, so could screw off. We went to Lost Barrio the next day and found a place that would custom make the pieces we needed for 25% less than Borderlands. read more

I found Borderlands by accident but am glad I did! My family was having dinner at a Mexican resultant that had corn husk flowers as part of the decor. I have been wanting more to add to a small bouquet I purchased from Texas a couple years ago. The waitstaff didn't know where to get the flowers but Google did! Borderlands keeps almost bankers hours so the next day after breakfast we headed over. The store was full of gorgeous artificers at very reasonable prices. I bought 7 more corn husk flowers - it was almost 8 but the nice lady who runs the store let me know I chose one with a wooden stick and not wire so taking it back on a plane would be difficult. There was a nice assortment of pottery, adorable tin Christmas trees I'll likely need to purchase later, some small Oaxacan animal figurines and more. When I first walked in a small Oaxacan owl caught my eye and for $10, I couldn't pass it up. Along with my flowers, I paid less than $40. They found me a bag for the flowers that survived the 2k mile flight home in my carry on. I was also told they do a lot of online orders and will ship but prices will be a little higher online. First visit. Pleasantly surprised by the variety of items. Unpleasantly surprised by the rude and curt behavior of one of the employees. No greeting should have been the first clue. Then, I asked for directions to items in the store and was told "I don't have time" and I was ungraciously passed to the other clerk. We spent around $900 dollars and asked about cost of delivery for a large item we purchased. Told, by same clerk, "we don't deliver". period, no offer of alternatives. As I was getting ready to help my husband move the item (we are seniors), she did say that if we waited until Tues there "may be" someone there to help us load it. Really?...forget her! The other clerk did offer to look up some names of people that would deliver. I appreciated her attempt to fix the hostile situation created by the ****y clerk. I will, reluctantly, shop there again, since they have what I am looking for but will get in, get what I need and not browse. Note to Owners: if you see your clerks don't like to deal with people, then IMHO, get different clerks. I would rather annoyingly perky than flat out bitchy. If you are the owner and you have a short fuse with customers, then stay off the floor and let the clerks do their jobs. read more

I immediately was drawn in by the variety of Talavera objects they sold. I purchased two suns and an entry way wall mirror sconce. The ladies running the store were an absolute delight. They were working hard keeping up their beautiful store while still happily attending to their customers. I'm from San Bernardino and usually I buy my talavera supplies from two stores in East LA. I can tell you the prices in LA are no match for these in Tucson ! read more

Before you start your project....check this store out. Talavera tile is at a great price (.75)......actually better priced than any shop in Phoenix....even beating other shops with their 50% sales. Great selections on furniture, dishes, pots and collectibles ....if they are short on an order fill, it isn't long before they have a new supply. I have visited this store 6-8 times in the past year shopping for a bench for my entryway. Never ONCE did an employee greet me, say hello, ask if I needed help or say goodbye as I was walking out. Seriously? Rude and ungrateful as I took the time out of my day to stop and shop at their unfriendly store.
