When I visited Calgary, we stumbled upon Fuwa Fuwa while trying to look for dessert. Walking inside, there is a lot of seating. The service here was good, and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the Matcha White Chocolate Soufflé, and it tasted amazing! It wasn't too sweet or bitter, and the soufflé was perfectly fluffy! Calgary branch of a Japanese souffle pancake chain, located in busy Kensington. Street parking is possible but at the whim of the traffic gods. There's plenty of seating inside including tables and counter-height stools, and this dessert is one that is best enjoyed sitting down. While your eyes peruse the menu in all of it's flashy, colorful glory, your ears have the pleasure of being entertained by K-pop and other pop hits. The staff working the register were friendly and efficient and can provide recommendations on the different textures and varieties of desserts offered. Our order was ready pretty quickly, which we had to pick up along with utensils from the register. The presentation of the Souffle Pancake is top notch, while the Earl Grey Cheesecake looked a little demure especially for how pricey the single slice was. Both desserts were light and fluffy (what "fuwa" actually means in Japanese), with everyone enjoying the signature souffle best. Though the earl grey flavor stands out in the cheesecake, the texture was more rubbery. These treats aren't cheap so I wouldn't find myself returning often, but would certainly reward myself (or a friend) by trying some of the different flavors in the future. read more

I've been wanting to try Fuwa for quite some time when it opened in Toronto. However, it was not close, and another pancake place was within walking distance. However, I was excited when it finally opened in Calgary, and I had to try it. Overall, the pancakes are delicious. If you want a unique pancake that's fluffy and tasty and not too sweet, this is the place to go to. However, the pancakes are quite expensive. You get two pancakes for the price of $14 to $18, depending on what you order. Even though it was really good I probably won't come here as often because of the prices. However, they do have happy hours, so that's probably a good option if you want to get a deal. You really don't get service at this restaurant. You pay and order at the counte, and they deliver the pancakes to yo. Afterwards, you will never see any service coming to check up on you, to refill water or anything else. Just a heads up! This place can fill up on a weekend so make sure you make your reservation which is one of the pros about this restaurant. read more

A must-try in Kensington, excellent dessert pancakes and awesome looking drinks (I'll def try a frappè next time). These fluffy soufflé pankekis take time, folks, I see lots of reviews citing wait time but you don't want non-fresh pancakes amirite. Our wait time was around 10min from order time. Don't come here with a huge appetite but it's great for a light one. The raspberry fruit compote, caramelized banana and berry toppings on my order were super good. Would love to see a savory menu come out in the future- bacon, eggs benny, etc. Paid street parking only. Lots of great foodie deals within a two block radius to explore too. read more

We went to there to try it out, but pales were already sold out by 8, when they closes at 11pm. They staff was still making pancakes, but were told it was for other customers. The service was slow and not very friendly staff. I noticed that they were making pancakes with tiny mixers (Kitchenaid Artisan), no wonder ether cannot meet demand. Even I have a bigger miler for home baking. I know they just open, but it was disappointing for my friend to come down 3 hours from Edmonton to try it, but we didn't have pancakes. read more

Cute eatery in the Kensington area of Calgary. We ordered the Fuwa Fuwa signature ($13.95) pancake soufflé. Something to note is that Fuwa Fuwa is not the place to go if you're in a hurry. It took quite awhile for our order to be prepared because each order begins after the order is placed. In order to create the fluffy pancakes, the batter cannot be prepared ahead of time. It's well worth the wait. The soufflé pancakes were delicious and I would love to visit Fuwa Fuwa again and try one of the other flavors. read more

Clean & cute with great decor and large (but not too large) menu I enjoyed the signature pancakes and a sesame oat milk iced latte. Service is good enough, but nothing special, and pancakes took a while, but were yummy enough that I didn't mind! This desert place is amazing, pancakes are fluffy topped by airy cream, fresh fruits and perfectly sweetened. Each is made fresh when you order and I was told it takes 20 minutes to make from the scratch, which explains the wait time. Service and the quality of food never disappoint! Been wanting to try these Japanese Pancakes for a while. First attempt failed as they didn't open until 11am and we arrived at 10. Today we were able to visit, arrived on a Thursday around 130pm. 1 other couple ahead of us in restaurant and later another 2 arrived so overall very quiet. When we placed our order, we were advised it would take at least 20 minutes as each order is made from fresh. It probably took longer than 20 minutes but we were enjoying each other's company and the drinks we had chosen: strawberry lemonade, sesame latte and coffee americano. Pancakes arrived:crème brûlée, blueberry and cheese and banana brûlée. All were delicious and filling and very pretty. Husband chose 2 macarons strawberry and blueberry that were very tasty, probably the nicest we've ever had but at $8 and change for 2, yikes! Will be back again as the food was super yummy but wonder why they didn't have any heat on in the restaurant? Ate the entire meal with our coats on! May have to try the university location to see if it is warmer inside. read more

This business is so disorganized it's not even funny. I understand they are new and need to figure out the best procedures to accommodate everyone who wants to try them, but their inability to answer their phones is ridiculous. I had called a few weeks prior to see how busy the location was because the first time i attempted to go, they were sold out of batter. When i called the first time, i was directed to the operator. I went with some friends to try it out only to find out they were only accommodating people with reservations. There were no posts on their social media explaining this and I had even tried calling twice before hand to see if the wait would be long. When I called both times I was directed to the operator. So without any clear Instruction of was to expect, my friends and I headed to the location. When we arrived we were told we could only be seated if we had a reservation. I asked the host three times how I could secure a reservation (was it through their website or did I need to call?). The host didn't understand my question and proceeded to tell me they were only taking reservations because of how busy the place could get. After my third attempt of trying to figure out how to secure a reservation, they told me to just call them. That's friggin hilarious seeing as though I tried called a few times before only to be directed to the operator.....so if you're planning to go here good luck. Hope you can get through their phone line. read more
