Just went here for lunch today and it was an amazing experience. They had many vegan and vegetarian options such as vegetables and tofu for your sushi. Everything was clearly labeled on the menu as suitable for people with dietary restrictions or not suitable. I love this place! I went to high school with the founders, and I am so proud of them. Its a quick and likeable concept comparable to Chipotle (create meal in line) - with great pricing. This is one of my favorite places to eat. Sushi is sometimes difficult because not everyone wants to eat raw seafood or is allergic to seafood. That's why this place is perfect for me and my boyfriend. He's allergic to seafood and they always hand cut his ingredients and his roll to make sure he won't have an allergic reaction. I don't like raw seafood so their steak and / or chicken option for protein is amazing. Their sauces complete the roll. I give this mildly negative review for the sushi lover. I like sushi. I like high quality sushi--and by this I mean raw fish. I stumbled across this place on Yelp when I was looking for high-quality sushi in Dayton, and this restaurant is really well reviewed. I went back and forth for a final verdict, but ultimately, I really don't think i am in a rush to go back because I wanted sushi and saw chunks of raw fish in a cafeteria-style metal container like you could find at Subway. I am not eating raw fish out of a container like that. No way. No how. Raw fish is to be served packed in ice from behind a counter lightly wrapped in cling wrap. I still tried a roll, and my fear of the fish led me to a tofu roll with all the veggies. It was good. Plenty of food and I felt comfortable afterward--not too full and not hungry. Another problem, though, is that I don't think it is a great value. You can get a roll at a reasonable price, sure, but the base price is 5.00, so that is basically the cost of a veg roll, and I think that is a little steep. but it fills you for lunch (eh, with dessert), so I guess it is one of the few remaining $5 lunches--assuming you don't want protein, which you should; it is a building block of life. I get the appeal of this place just the same. It is an interesting idea to have more control over one's sushi roll contents. I liked that I got to jam pack it with veggies. You can explore flavors through the sauces and a very limited selection of sushi ingredients. One last thing along these lines: I didn't see an option to make it with brown rice. If you are giving me control over my sushi, let me make it better for my health with whole grains. I know it can be done. I have seen it elsewhere. Ultimately though, I have to rate it badly because I am not rating well a sushi restaurant where I didn't want to eat the fish. A great place to take someone new to sushi, they have soy wrap instead of seaweed, chicken, fake crab. This is a great place someone new to sushi can get their feet wet. The salmon and tuna were very good quality, and you get to choose your own accompaniments. The miso soup was ok, but the seaweed salad was very good. My favorite place to go for lunch or dinner. You can customize your sushi with a variety of protein and toppings. My fav is the spicy crab. They also always have a fruit to choose. I usually go for the mango with my sushi. You can order it as a roll or in a bowl. I personally get the bowl because it is a large portion. They also let you choose the different sauces for the sushi like eel and spicy mayo. The only thing I didn't like was the flavored teas. They are a little watered down, but it also could have been a bad day. read more

Assembly line sushi? What a simple but unique concept! Went to the Dayton location craving a tasty meal without a wait & Fusian was the perfect choice. The staff was amicable, accommodating & fun. The options were numerous but not overwhelming. We got three rolls and the fish was fresh, the asparagus was crispy & the veggies were all on point. I'm not a fan of tofu but even the tofu looked good. They were generous with the imitation crab and the sauces. I could go on & on but they have every sauce you could possibly want! I'll be honest, I didn't want to like Fusian because the whole idea of fast food sushi didn't sit right with me. Also, the place looks, well, trendy and the owners seem like a bunch of the "bros" I went to college with. I know -- that's shallow and irrelevant and totally presumptuous, so I put my personal feelings aside and was pleasantly surprised. Someone else compared this place to Chipotle and that's totally accurate. You'd think it's a bit harder to order sushi the way you'd order a burrito, but my sushi was delicious and all the flavor combinations of the rolls my friends ordered worked well too! The spicy mayo and sweet soy that I added to mine were mouthwatering. The portions were large -- I couldn't finish my entire roll. I paid $7. Perfect! One thing I will mention -- don't trick yourself into thinking this is a healthy place just because it's sushi. With all the free extras they offer (sauces, toppings, etc.) the calories add up. With the nutrition facts section of their website, I figured that my roll was nearly 540 calories -- roughly as much as a Big Mac. The rolls were nice and tight, and the different options were great - not too many raw options, but they have a spicy tuna and yellowtail, which are the two I often get anyway. GOOD sushi Today is a chilly October day so I decided to try this place on my lunch hour. It's conveniently located on Brown St(near UD's campus and right near 5/3 bank). The restaurant is nice and open and has the meal line style like Chipotle. You pick your wrap (seaweed or soy) and your meat (choices such as tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, shrimp, etc. They even have chicken and steak options (YES the chicken and steak are cooked!) for sushi newbies. After you pick your wrap and meat, you pick your veggies. They have a great selection of veggies (including asparagus, avocado, cucumbers, carrots, green onions, etc). After your veggies you pick your sauce(s) such as yakisoba sauce, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, etc and then any toppings you'd like (I was especially fond of the tempura crunch topping) The only thing I don't particularly care for is the house "sweet soy sauce". It has a really thick consistency. It was a pain trying to mix my wasabi w/ it. For $8 I got a smoked salmon roll (w/ green onions,avocado, and cream cheese. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I live out of state and I'm an constant sushi eater and this place was great. The staff was very friendly and even gave us a free drink since it was our first time in. Gave us good suggestions on what to put in our rolls based on what we like. The atmosphere was very clean and quiet. The only suggestion I have is if it's someone's first time, recommend getting just one roll (they're huge). I am not a sushi fan, but I really enjoyed this place. My husband convinced me to try something new and I'm glad he did. This place is like subway - you go down the line and tell them exactly what you want on your roll. They have several veggie and meat choices (including grilled tofu). The put it all on a pre-made wrap (choose between seaweed and soy), roll it up right in front of you, and put it in a big slicing contraption. You end up with a roll cut in 10 slices and they have perfect packaging for it. Most people got sauce drizzled on top, but there were so many sauces to choose from so I got several on the side and loved every one of them. We also tried the carrot ginger salad which was awesome. I want to try the seaweed salad next. The service was great, everybody was patient and kind to us newbies (who were holding up the line a bit with all of our questions). This place was great! Such a great idea! The people were so nice and the restaurant was open and bright and very welcoming. Parking is around back so go to the end of the block and its behind the strip of restaurants! You can even enter from the back if you want. It was very similar to a chipotle, choose your paper (rice or seaweed), choose your rice, choose your poultry (I chose tuna), and then choose all the veggies you want (I had avocado, green onions, cucumber, cream cheese, and carrots), and then they roll it up and cut it with this nifty tool and then you can put sauces and some toppings on it. (I put spicy mayo, sweet soy, crunchy tempura, and added crab mix for an extra $1.50). I also had the agave gingerade. Everything was delicious and worth the $10. Very filling!! As a vegetarian I was hesitant to try this, until a family member informed me I can choose Tofu as my "meat". I also expected it to be more expensive than it is as well. Overall it's a nice treat, and definitely something different from the typical chains popping up. In a two block area there's three burger joints (Five Guys, BK & Smashburger), three sub shops (Jimmy Johns, Subway & Sub House), two sandwich shops (Potbelly & Panera), and two burrito joints (Chipotle & Hot Head). Fusian stands out on Brown Street as unique, if nothing else. While I felt the portion may have been smaller than I was accustomed to for a similar price, I was still satisfied with the amount of food I got. I didn't leave hungry, but I wasn't bloated and ready for a nap either. While enjoyable and tasty I don't see this as a regular stop for meals, but more as an occasional treat. read more

FUSIAN is a make to order Asian place (get it?). You go up to the counter and select either rolls or bowls. We ordered the rolls : Taka Tuna, Soho Salmon and Chicken & Rice. The chicken and rice is interesting/different because it has a soy wrap. At first, I thought the soy wrap was lettuce - the soy has a similar crunch. The fish was really fresh - freshest I have had at a table service restaurant. They have interesting flavors of lemonade too -- lavender, strawberry and agave. The employees were very friendly and informative and walked me through the process of building my own sushi roll! I got seaweed with white rice. For protein I went with tuna and crab meat. Veggies- cucumber, avocado and jalapeño. It was so delicious and fresh tasting! They have different sauces for you to put on your sushi so I had some spicy mayo and eel sauce. When this FUSIAN opened a couple years ago I came almost once a week but I started working in a different city but now I'm back in the area and I've been disappointed in the service since coming back for lunch a few times. Today's experience took the cake and made me want to write a review. There was a group of 4 in front of me that were obviously there for lunch with each other. The line started working on a call in order in between the group's order which lead to two being checked out and eating while the other two waiting. I heard the guy if they could work on their rolls so the rest of their group wasn't done eating by the time they were done (he wasn't disrespectful when he asked). The guy behind the counter told this man to relax. I was baffled and it didn't even happen to me. I understand call in orders need to be done but they could consider people who are dining together when they start working on a call in order. I know I was just an observer during this but it has definitely confirmed that the service is no longer what it used to be and I don't think I'll be back. read more

Fusion's sushi is very good. It is just loosely wrapped compared to most sushi which makes it hard to eat. You get large portions too.

Great "create your own" sushi roll or bowl. It's like subway. You tell them what and they prepare it at the counter while you watch. We had the soul bowl with kale, rice, salmon, sweet peppers and sesame soy sauce. It was really good. (Next time we'll exchange the half kale/half rice for entirely rice. My husband isn't a fan of kale.) We also had miso soup (good) and the agave gingerade (delicious). Limited outdoor seating but plenty of seating inside. read more
