Add the tum tum, and you would think this is the last place I would end up. The different orthopedic doctors and Physical Therapists all basically said go to something like this and see what makes you hurt :-( . I called and talked to the business and it turns out that they have many different types of classes, including rehab and recovery. They would make adjustments for me if needed. The business was spotless and organized to a T. Then came the class. The instructor, Jennifer, was quite charming as was the staff. The attendees were all ages, shapes, sizes, and I was not the only man there. Jennifer said she could adjust the instruction if needed due to all my damage and I said no way, go full blast and if I had problems I would adjust myself. So, full of confidence, I started immediately with the class which was a "grace", or something like that, for newbies. Jennifer was enthusiastic, and kept the tempo going. I had some problems at first following the instructions as I was new to this, but with the mirrors and her assistants, I started getting the idea. Yeah! I heard "shake it off and rest" but I could never see where "rest" was in the picture. I realized that if I totally stopped I would never be able to start up again, so I did the best I could. Then I learned to hate the words "bar and barre". When you are told to grab or lean on the bar, you are really going to get it. All in all, it was wonderful. Jennifer or one of her assistants would come and help with advice, and there was only 2 moves I could not do. When we were finally finished, my muscles were shaking so bad from lack of use in the past few years, I asked my wife to drive home, much to her glee. Fast forward 1 day and I am worn out and sore, but in a good way. I am definitely more flexible, I don't have pain where I used to have pain, so this event probably saved me a lot of money to doctors and therapists as I know now where to target and to what extent I can handle and still live.

Walking into the studio you feel like you're in a trendy little boutique. Cute furniture, modern furnishings. The receptionist immediately greeted my friend and I and gave us a quick tour around. I felt very comfortable there for it being my first time. The instructor, Emily, met with us before class to explain what we were in for and reassure us that it was ok to work out within our own limits and take breaks as needed. We did the Shape class which encompasses strength training and toning. You might think a class loosely based on ballet sounds kind of like an easy work out, but it was definitely not! I work out at least a few times a week and this class really put me in my place. My arms were aching 5 minutes in and my butt was burning pretty much the whole time. I can't see how you wouldn't get in shape if you do this class regularly! There's a special right now where you get 2 classes for $22 as a new client and it was totally worth it. I have felt healthy and energized all day. It's nice to work out in such a clean and pretty environment. I really hope to make this a regular part of my week.

They give you a set of wraps for you to keep for a one time small fee, but will have to pay for renting gloves each class if you need them (also a small fee), or can bring your own. Highly highly recommend this place if you've ever thought about boxing/kickboxing! I look forward to it every week.

Veronica was a gift from the…read moreuniverse, she was able to do more for me in one hour than I've gotten from years of personal efforts. Veronica ended up being one of the best pole instructors I've ever experienced. She was so fast to connect to me and my goals and understood instantly my ability and previous experience on the pole and in dance. She then was able to teach the techniques she laid out for me in a way she knew I needed to learn them, and installed the exact concepts and methods she knew I needed for were I wanted to go. Unlike many other experiences with classes and studios, this experience left me feeling like I just walked out with a super charged download of pole skills versus the usual feeling of wasted time and little progress I've felt with other trainings. The studio itself is set up so perfectly too. The whole design and layout of the dance room is really interesting bc it's so warm inviting and elegant yet intimate and professional at the same time. Every little detail of the whole studio is done to perfection. It's hard to say something new about a studio that literally has so many five star reviews to its name, but honestly I would just say that for anyone who wants the hands down best pole dance training of their life needs to set this studio and the incredible Veronica as a priority number one to come and experience for yourself.

The owner, Fanny, is involved and available for any questions you need. The studio has clean bathrooms, tons of changing rooms and cubbies to store your stuff, as well as vast parking outside. What are you waiting for? -Ashley is great, especially for newbies, with a mix of pop, Latin, contemporary and even Beyonce songs thrown in -Alex's class feels like dancing in a club. It's fabulous, fun and high energy, but it's always 1.5 hours -On Sundays they do not take any passes (monthly, class card, etc.) or vouchers, it's $10 cash no matter what -Classes often start about 5 minutes late as a general rule and the lobby can get a little crowded as you wait -There's a water fountain -Classes can get a little loud, so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive

Try this once and you will want to come back!…read more As a father of 3 kids, I always felt there would be a 'right time' to put my kids into some kind of martial arts, just so they would have some foundation knowledge of defending/protecting themselves against any kind of attack. I had no idea that it would become a family activity and something my kids not only get excited about, but want to practice by 'rolling' (Jiu-Jitsu term for folding clothes while a person is still wearing them) with daddy. We have attended about 6 family classes and I have also attended about the same adult classes. The instructors are extremely friendly and accommodate all sorts of experience and ages. The lessons are delivered in such a way to accommodate the wide range of students. The facility is extremely clean and is cleaned/sanitized after every class. The structure of each 1-hour class starts with a warm up, followed by about 40 minutes of lesson and practice where you a partnered with someone more experienced than you and take turns applying what was demonstrated by the Professor (the professor is what you might already think of as the sensei ("sen-say")). During this time, one person is really practicing while the other person is the practice dummy. You take turns practicing on the dummy. In the last 10-15 minutes you are again partnered with someone for a sparring session (this is more practice, only this time no one is the practice dummy). Finishing with some training related words of encouragement from the professor, and hand shakes/ fist bumps all round. I am still a little intimidated every time I step onto the mat, but I can feel it is dissipating with each class I attend. I can feel myself getting stronger both physically and mentally, and sincerely believe I am getting considerably more fit than if I was just lifting weights or doing cardio. Believe me when I say this... IT IS A WORKOUT! You can tell there is a sense of community here and everyone takes care of each other. No one is here to try and prove anything to anyone except themselves. My goal is to continue attending with my kids at least once a week in the family class, and at least twice a week in the adults class. At this stage I have no false ambition of becoming a UFC contender, although after a few more classes I would like to think I could at least protect myself against an unprovoked attack. I would encourage anyone to try this just once and see if it sparks a desire to learn something new like it did for me. I am enjoying this experience and feel like I'm getting better (more comfortable) with every class.

Instead of…read moreletting the kids socialize/experience life/play cards/whatever during down time, they plopped them in front of screens (I guess to save money on staffing?). So our kids came home every day and reported that they'd had hours of screen time at climbing camp. Also, it seems like lots of the campers brought their own iPhones/technology to camp and spent the day watching stuff--or just being distracted--on their individual devices. Would be great Mesa Rim had a policy like other camps do that kids have to leave screens at home or out of sight in backpacks. Like a lot of parents, we sent our kids to camp to get their energy out and be active and social--specifically to get them AWAY from screens. I really hope they correct these things for next summer so we can send our kids back because the climbing part was fun.
