I avoid chain restaurants and cafés.
I admire the effort and courage that goes into making it on your own, without some corporate labeled franchise.
That being said, I am really impressed with Funk.
The coffee was good. Not just "I need my fix and will settle for anything that doesn't taste like truck stop" good, but actually enjoyable "someone knows what they're doing here" good.
I didn't eat lunch here, but they have your general Italian-esque panini sandwiches.
I did however have a brownie. It was fantastic. Now I do have what I like to consider, a refined taste for chocolate. I was dreading the worst when I enquires about the flavour of the brownies and the cashier replied "we have a brown one and a darker brown one". you're killing my faith in your product knowledge lady.
Turns out it was a dark chocolate cherry brownie and after just one bite I was on the floor, legs in the air, socks on the ceiling. It was a good brownie. She doesn't even know she's sitting on a gold mine, the poor sweet fool.
Anyway, to summarise, Funk gets my seal of approval. read more
