I found my long lost friends at Long Lost Friend Cafe: lucky!
I prefer not to give 5 stars unless my feet are literally blown away by everything, but then, I also like to leave room for people to have a less than good day (them or me) and for service or food to have room to get the wow factor.
Located up the top end of Magill Road, you actually cannot miss this place on the weekend because it has so many people enjoying the goods that LLFC has. In a quiet neighbourhood without many places to eat, I am not surprised this has become a bit of a favourite for the locals. Expect to take a walk from your car, because the side street was busy, and the main road was occupied. But, the day I chose to head there, was an excellent day for a walk.
Theres outside seating, bench seating, small tables and I believe another room to over flow into. Even with the vast amounts of people, it was easy to get a spot, though I was aware that those who came after us had a bit of a line up to wait, or do take aways only. What would make this place awesome would be if there was a park right next door - that seriously would get a work out in our nice Adelaide weather we are having!
There is a bit of a machine of people working behind the counter, on the coffee machine and in the kitchen, so much of the atmospheric sound comes from there, but the openness of the place allows much of the build up noise to move through. As its the quiet end of Magill Rd, its actually not as busy as it could be closer to the city.
My friends partook of consuming some delicious meals; one being a breakfast bacon/egg/toast/possibly avo option (he just kept making those happy grunting sounds), the stand out being the Soda & Chocolate bread, with orange marmalade and some fancy cream. Now, if you aren't in your 80's and don't love marmalade or jaffa flavoured things like me - let me tell you - this is delicious!!! Its not overly flavoured with the rind, and the combo of the chocolate bread, marmalade and cream is just the right balance. Not even too much of a jaffa flavour. It was subtle, and well textured, and if my friend looked away from her plate for two seconds I would've stolen some more.
Find those friends you love, and come along to LLFC. Don't try and bring too many though, unless you get in real early and nab some space! Just the fun 2-3 folks you can have a good giggle about life with.
Unfortunately, the staff looked tired, possibly too busy, so we didn't get to really have much of a chat with any of them or feel like we wanted to develop community with them, which is sad, but to give them credit, it was constant there.
The other thing that lost them some marks was how one of our Latte's came out. We watched this lovely Barista pour a splash of milk in with the beautiful caramel looking shot, swish it around, and then proceed to pour the rest of the milk & silky froth. This made us sad!!! As trained baristas ourselves, we have never seen Latte's being made like this, and to us, it dampened the beautiful latte art that could've come with a perfect pour. We thought perhaps its a technique we haven't seen before, old skills or new... but it was still a good Latte (the Flat white looked better though!).
Still, picky things aside, get on to long lost friend already! read more
