It's a fun looking spot for Americanized Mexican food and located right next to the famous Snowflake ice cream shop. Each time we were in Riverhead to get ice cream this summer we wanted to try this spot for dinner and we finally had a chance. Most of our group ordered taco platters, house chips, and the taco salad to share. Overall, the portions are large and filling. Tasted good, but nothing that wow'ed us. Along with a few Modelo's it was a decent meal. A bit pricey for what it is but nothing is cheap anymore. We popped in here on the way home. It has changed so much since the last time we were here and it was a tiny little hut with only outdoor seating. Now there's indoor seating too. It's still small but very cute. Plants everywhere, cute tables and chairs. Food was good. Been wanting to try to this place out for a while and went one Saturday with my finance. Upon arriving we were both lost as far as how to order food. Funchos is a place you order and find your own seat, they don't have waiters/waitress who take your order. After sitting down lost for a lil while we finally asked a staff member how to order food and we go up and ordered. I ordered a couple of tacos and some nachos. My fiancé ordered a few tacos as well and we got 2 margaritas. Margaritas were ok and nothing special and the food was ok. I had very high hopes, but the food was nothing special at all. I had way better Mexican on Long Island and I wouldn't come out my way to come here. Overall I would come back here and try other items and give it another try if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

This is my girlfriend's favorite Mexican place that she's been going to for years, so I was very excited to see what all the hype was about. Came for an early dinner on a sleepy Sunday. Small unassuming little place, but it packs a lot of personality in it. The atmosphere has great colorful Mexican decor that definitely gets me in the mood for a fiesta. Service was great, very patient and food came out hot, fresh and quick! We started with chips and guac, and they definitely don't skimp on your guac portion like most places do. We both did quesadillas, I got the surf wax Q with chorizo and she got the funchadilla with steak. Both equally delicious, but the cilantro cream sauce on the surf wax was what really sold me, I just might put that on everything. Seating is a little limited (they were also doing some renovations at the time) but they have great to-go containers too if you want to take it and run. Parking is easy right in the attached lot too. Everything on the menu sounded great and I would love to come back here in the summer and sit outside, enjoy a cold hard beverage and down a few tacos. I've said it once on this account and I'll say it again... Funchos is one of the best places I have found so far since moving to Long Island. The food here is remarkably fresh and authentically prepared. You can immediately sense the time that goes into crafting each dish, evident in all the flavors. I (naturally) drifted towards all things Birria, and let me tell you, the empanadas were just as good as they always are. Crunchy but so tender and yummy in the middle. The sauce accompanying the tacos is nothing short of heavenly. The restaurant's decor adds to the overall charm. During covid they put time and effort into expanding their outdoor area. This place took a major nosedive in quality and attentiveness of staff. Came here today, ordered a burrito and a quesadilla and asked 2 times on the phone "please no meat just black beans". I get the food ask the guy at the counter to make sure there's no meat, get back to the car, there's chicken in the quesadilla and they put the wrong beans in the burrito. I go back, have them re make it, and they get it wrong AGAIN!! No sauce on the quesadilla, no guacamole in the burrito (which I ordered) and what we did get was so greasy we didn't eat it. The people taking orders on the phone are rude, the young guy working the counter was nice but that's really the only positive thing I have to say. I hear they changed owners recently, which is why they're trying to pass as a full service restaurant, but I'm really hoping they change back because this place used to be great but the last few times I've came it was horrible. Came here for lunch with my boyfriend's family and I was underwhelmed. My boyfriend used to love this place many years ago, so I was at least open-minded if not excited to try it when I went. We got a table outside, the outside area in the back is definitely clean and pretty. The service is friendly and nice. I was mostly disappointed in the food. I had two tacos and the flavors were kind of meh and not memorable at all. The tortilla was such a weird texture, wet and bland. It made me want to just pick at the shrimp inside and eat just that. I could feel myself wasting my calories, which is never fun. It could have all benefitted from more salt and more salsas/seasoning, especially when contrasted with the very bland rubbery tortilla. It was kind of a long-ish wait for what we ordered, and it wasn't really that busy either. I don't know. I would give it 3 stars. The patio seating was covered for the most part and it was cool outside. I got the chicken burrito and a pina colada. I was too hungry to snap a picture of the burrito but it was a generous size. It honestly tasted like the chipotle burritos. The pina colada did taste pretty good though. Mine personally came out good and correct , on the other hand my girlfriends food was not right not only the first but the second time as well. The biggest problem however was when we were asked if we wanted chips and guacamole. Which the server made seem as if it was complimentary then we were charged 14 dollars! Okay, Funcho's. Their instagram page is very lovely. The pictures of the foods and the exterior look amazing. When you get there the place itself is very appealing and vibrant which I loved. You order your food through a window and it get delivered in to go boxes. The margarita was probably the best thing I had there unfortunately. Beware of A LOT of bees . They go into my drink. I took my sister to this place for a late celebration of mother's day but I was expecting customer service to be a lot better. They have good catering but in house needs some work. I ended up showing up at the riverhead location and had an argument with the lady who said she wouldn't answer the phone. She said they only take to go orders right now, but who calls to say they are coming to sit down and eat? Noone. She was rude and was not getting the point. She should atleast answer the phone and say they are no longer taking orders. Worst establishment ever. They don't know how to run a business. They need to go to a management class and learn how to improve business because this is not it. I grabbed a beer from the self serve cooler and enjoyed it during my wait. The Truck Special (3 tacos w rice, beans and guac) is, at $18, an exceptional value. The al pastor Taco is legit. I've been to Funcho's twice and have had the opportunity to try a couple of items from their menu. If you order to go, it is best to order ahead because they take a while. Their fish and shrimp tacos are great, but definitely on the loaded side with the toppings. I wish they were a bit less saucy. 4/5 The steak taco is EXTREMELY salty though to the point where my bf and I could not finish them. They were also really soggy for some reason. 1/5 The cactus crunch nachos come in a really generous portion, but there was too much toppings which weighed down on the nachos and made them soggy. 2/5 The churros were bomb though, freshly deep fried with a warm caramel filling. 5/5 read more
