We had a delicious and relaxing meal in this cute location. It was open and airy and full of green plants. You order at a counter and wait for your food. Good came out quickly. We enjoyed our it all. My tacos were delicious with a nice tangy, limey sauce. It was slightly messy - like a good taco should be. The pickled red onions were amazing. The chicken quesadilla was so good and huge! We took half of it home. The mango chicken pizza was also yummy - good flavor, good combo, crispy crust. I washed it all down with a great margarita. Located a few minutes drive from Tanger Outlets, Funcho's is a serviceable Mexican spot that provides decent food for a decent price. The menu is pretty extensive and has a lot of variations of tacos for one to choose from. The location has a large outdoor seating area and the food is picked up at their windows. It's quick and convenient. Food here IMO is just average. Portions are generous but I found their tacos bland. Maybe I'm spoiled by eating from Mexican spots in Queens but this place was just so-so for me. They do have a full array of Mexican soft drinks here if you're curious and the service is more than friendly. Worth a try if you're in the area but for me it was just ok. read more

I stopped in here back in July for dinner and was unimpressed. The good: this place has a lovely & relaxed outdoor atmosphere, and I was able to have my dog with me. The meh: the food I saw a menu item called the Vegano. As described it was rice, beans, onions, peppers, pico, corn, and guac. Right up my alley. Sadly when it arrived, the guac was inside little cut up soft tacos... alone. Just guac in a tortilla. The "pico" was just tomato chunks in with the onions. And there was no corn. This place is so yummy. I recommend coming in the summer you sit outside and it's so cute (yes, they have indoor area but not the same ambiance) You order first (frozen margaritas are yummy - so yes they have frozen drinks) i ordered the taco salad with chicken so so good! We ordered guac and chips for the appetizer again, so good! And then you go find your table and they'll bring it to you. I recommend this place it's what I like to call "nom nom" drinks and all. Stop here pretty regularly and the food is great mostly, the horchata is a little sour and gross but otherwise delicious meals. The service tends to be a little slow even when they aren't busy but they're all very friendly. It's all outdoor seating and the decor is cute but unfortunately during the summer they have a wasp/bee problem, I know being outdoor seating there is only so much that can be done about that but I noticed they were all eating out of the full recycling/trash bins flying in and out of soda cans and peoples meals. Could be easily be managed if that was taken care of! The price they charge is higher than the menu and they charge $1.75 for sour cream on a burrito that you can't see or taste but they say it's on there. I feel like they do this on purpose. Found this place just by chance of being in the area. Didn't have dinner here (yet) but when I saw it I just had to walk in. This place is located in a small old style burger joint that they expanded to include a dining room and a very nice outdoor area. It was super clean and the best way i can explain the feeling here is that you aren't in Long Island anymore. We walked in just to have a few drinks and decided on a strawberry margarita and a jalapeño margarita. Hands down these margaritas were delicious and fresh. They put the ingredients into a milk shake mixer and blended them together which enhanced the flavor and also made the drinks taste that much fresher. While we were sitting the manager and / or owner were sitting at the table right across from us and came over to ask us where we were from and what brought us here. Offered to get us another round of drinks which we did decline as we had a long drive home. Definitely will be back however so we can try to food that you could smell how good it was coming from the kitchen. read more

Really good food! Their Giaverdi salad is great. It's a legacy item that's not on the menu for some reason but you can still ask for it just be careful if the chef is a newbie they will either refuse to make it or inexplicably add rice. The food is fresh and authentic, too bad they do not have another location closer to the Nassau/Suffolk border (but still worth the hike). In the winter time check out their spicy hot chocolate definitely worth going all year round. read more

Decent food. We wanted to try some place different so we came to Funcho's today. Slightly let down. We got an order of nachos, a shrimp burrito, a chicken quesadilla, and a steak taco. Nachos-2/5. It was more like a taco salad, too much stuff piled on top that you had to dig through to get to a chips on bottom. And when you did many were broken or soggy. A fork shouldn't be a necessity to eat nachos. Burrito-3/5. The bbq/chipotle sauce saved it, otherwise it was quite bland. The shrimp tasted like it was frozen fried shrimp you'd buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store. Quesadilla-2/5. Very little chicken, and mostly peppers and onions. Again, quite bland not much going on with sauce or spices. Taco-1/5. Barely any steak, and not very fresh tasting. Overall, I'm glad we tried this place as we've passed it a few times and a lot of times these off the grid places are great. But after today I can say that we will probably never return. Mediocre food and a little pricey. If there's nothing else nearby and you're looking for Mexican food give it a whirl, otherwise I'd say drive a little more and go to moes. read more

Funchos is a small Tex-Mex place in Riverhead. I visited here with some friends in January and we all got lunch. I got a few different tacos while there, my only complaint is that the steak was overcooked and dry. The other tacos I got had chicken and they were perfect. I wanted to get the Mexican Hot Chocolate when I was there, but they were all out unfortunately. Will definitely be trying it next time. It's a small parking lot right next to an ice cream shop and I could see this place getting crowded in the summer and the parking lot overflowing. Overall worth the visit! It gets crowded quick at lunch and dinner with only a few seats inside but in the summer there's also plenty of outdoor seating. They do all the basics well but the Greek taco with cucumber sauce and the chicken enchiladas are my go to choices. I've been going to funchos for the better part of 14 years and all I can say is it really holds up. The menu gets tweaked to keep things interesting but stays true to the ethos of producing good and fresh Mexican food on the east end. A little less authentic in its offerings/ bit more of a posh option to some of the great little hole in the wall spots in the area but that never comes at the expense of taste. They also recently rebranded their marketing with a new line of stickers and shirts to help folks spread the word. I've been here a few times and things just taste mediocre to cheap. One of the $4 tacos is served in a plain white tortilla? That's like eating stuffing in a steamed Chinese wonton. That's not the texture I want when I go for Mexican food. I wish they would go to NYC and play around with the different flavors you can experience there among all the million restaurants competition. The Mad Dog Burrito, which I order every time, always comes out excellently and exactly how I order it. The employees are always friendly. It's great to eat outside when the weather is nice, but inside is fine too even though it is a little bit of a tight fit. Order inside at the front, then they will bring your food to you. They have a variety of sugary Snapples and sodas, and beer, but nothing other than water that I'd be interested in due to the sugar content. Whenever I'm in the mood for Mexican food my wife and I look at each other and say Funcho's. Even though it's a half hour drive we still gladly head over there and order away. As a vegan they offer a vegan bowl which has rice, beans, and grilled veggies! The guac and chips is a crowd pleaser and literally big enough for a crowd. It's massive!
