The tacos were pretty good, I prefer Funchos in Riverhead, Lucheritos in Greenport/Aquabogue or Chicos TexMex foodtruck in Shirley. They had interesting taco variations but I like my tacos more traditional & double wrapped. Mesquite was recommended to me by a friend so I hoped it would be amazing. The tacos were decent but nothing to write home about. They have a nice little tequila bar inside with a good happy hour crowd so if you're in the neighborhood it's worth a stop for a drink & a bite. That's it. read more

Mesquite Tex-Mex - Shrimp BLT Taco, Chicken Cutlet Taco, Jerk Chicken Taco - Tex-Mex Near Me - Wading River, New York

I've never left a negative review in my life, but this experience was frustrating enough that I feel like I have to say something. I paid $74.14 for two steak burritos with fajita veggies and extra steak, one chicken burrito with extra chicken, and two orders of empanadas. I paid an additional $3 on each burrito for extra meat, and I even left a tip when I picked up the order. For that price, I expected the amount of meat to at least reflect what you'd normally receive in a regular burrito. Unfortunately, it didn't even come close. All three burritos had almost no meat in them. There wasn't what I would consider a normal portion of steak or chicken, never mind the extra portion I specifically paid for. The burritos were overwhelmingly rice, beans, veggies, and tortilla with barely any protein. The two orders of empanadas were equally disappointing. They were basically pockets of air with a small amount of cheese inside. I completely understand that restaurants have to manage food costs and portion sizes, but if you're charging customers an extra $3 for additional steak or chicken, they should actually receive it. Spending $74.14, paying extra for meat, and leaving a tip only to open the food and find portions like these was incredibly disappointing. I don't like criticizing a local business, and there's a reason I've never written a negative review before. But this was bad enough that I felt other customers should know what my experience was. I would steer clear of this place. Based on my experience, there seemed to be very little concern for whether customers actually received what they paid for. I certainly won't be ordering from here again. read more

Love the renovation dining room and bar! Warmer environmebt makes you want to stay a while. Still waiting for a happy hour drink specials. My last review was disappointed in tge lack of fillings in specialty tacos and watery crema. Not our experience this time. Empanadas are huge and generously stuffed. And the mexicsn street corn crema was much better this time. Others in my group had tacos and they were better portioned for sure. I'm a local. Will always come here. But i'd love to have a reason to come more often (beautiful new expanded bar BEGS for happy hour) If you sit at the window table area, its a beautiful view of the pond across the way. I'm so used to it, i lost my appreciation..but was reminded by someone from out of town dining there first time who was so taken with the view. read more

I was recommended Mesquite Tex-Mex by a park ranger and this is probably one of the best places I have gone to for tacos! Definitely coming back here if I'm ever in the area again. I decided to order their traditional tacos with chicken and steak. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was seasoned to perfection. I decided to sit down and was served with chips and salsa. The salsa was good but the chips were stale. I did go there an hour before closing so I'm not letting that affect my rating. The service was okay and the place is clean. There were plenty of seating inside for us as we were the only customers in there. read more

The food is good but the portions are way too small. Furthermore I could not understand the man who took our order. I also asked him what something was on the menu and he had no idea. read more

I ordered 4 tacos. Duck, lamb, pulled pork and steak. Each one tasted good however the meat in each one was quite tough.

The food was fresh, well seasoned, deliciously prepared and the price was better than most. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a nice Tex-Mex meal. read more

It was taco Tuesday so we did a little takeout! Food was ready quick, it was delicious and perfect for a quick takeout meal

This place came highly recommended and they were wrong. Homemade child and salsa to die for. I got the surf and turf taco. Shrimp was cooked to perfection. With the bacon and coleslaw...the flavors worked well. Second taco was the fish with a mango sauce. Incredible. This is a must if you're in the neighborhood. And if you're not... get there. Delicious!!! read more

Good food and drinks. Moderately priced. Service is quick service - you order at the counter. Very chill vibes inside. Food wasn't bad and glad I went. Got nachos and a chicken quesadilla. Strawberry margarita was delicious! But I think there's better Mexican options in WR. read more

Great place! One of the best spicy margaritas ever! Food is fresh and delicious!! Great prices too! Highly recommend!!!

For a while I avoided coming here due to the attitude of the people that worked there, the owner included. However, I was excited to try it again when I found out it changed hands. Let me tell you that it is so much better now. The food is awesome and the staff is friendly. I will definitely be coming back again. read more

Food 5 Ambiance 5 What a little gem!! Stumbled across this spot, across from the pond in the heart of sweet little Wading River. They have great choices of Tacos- duck, jerk chicken, fish.. Cocktails and Beer available as well. Small little spot, but it feels Classic. read more

Mesquite Tex-Mex - Beef Empanadas, Loco Nachos - Tex-Mex Near Me - Wading River, New York

Consistently the worst customer service. Hard rice every time. This place went downhill.

I visit my dad about twice a year and every time we make a trip here. The food is excellent and not typical which is what I enjoy.ingredients are fresh and cooked perfect plus a bit ingenious . Service is half sit down half self serve which I assume keeps costs down but it only has maybe chairs for 30 anyway. This is not a fancy place (it's in the old wading river post office)but it's decorated sort of random Mexican which fits the style. If you want tasty Mexican style food it's very enjoyable in a fairly loud environment this is your place. They also have full bar and my favorite homemade Mexican ice pops). Anyway I've been a executive chef for 22 yrs or so and own my own place in Tennessee so I'm up on food and restaurants if your wondering read more

Being one of those "anti-cilantro-people," I've avoided Mexican food forever. It's always hiding somewhere and easiest to just skip it altogether. So I was leary when my husband suggested it after attending a private party there - but he had me at "they used to be at La Plage." We went last week. Twice! And brought an out of town guest for lunch too! Your margaritas are fresh and fantastic and the food is absolutely amazing. Started simple with the mushroom quesadilla and have since had fish tacos as well as the Buffalo cauliflower. I cannot wait to come back. Yes, cilantro exists in places but it's easily avoided, the crew is accommodating and darn it I'm so glad you're here! We will be back for Mothers Day and probably before that too! read more

I've been going to Mesquite for a while now, even before new ownership. The food is always delicious and they have a wide variety of taco options that not many other Tex-Mex restaurants offer. The customer service is always 11/10 and they get the food out rather quickly for the amount we always order. We don't eat out much but when we do we typically come here read more

Just isn't the same since the new owners. Tacos are decent but nowhere near as good as they were previously. The bad review is mainly because of the two main guys behind the counter. I think they're father and son? The younger one never thanks you for your business, barely even greets you or anything. I literally stand there after receiving my food awaiting some sort of acknowledgment. Incredibly rude. The older gentleman isn't much better. I can't give business to a place that doesn't appreciate their customers. La plage...figure out your employees. read more

It's fantastic. Mesquite burritos are really tasty. And the Margs are great!! Some more characters to fill this out

It's always nice to check out a place that exceeds your expectations. There were 4 in our party. I had a special taco - chorizo fajita taco and pulled pork taco. Everything was fresh. My son had the ribs which was cooked well and just enough bbq sauce. My wife had the burrito bowl with mesquite grilled chicken. Presentation of bowl could have been better than a foil tin. Staff was very attentive. Surprise hit was the cantaloupe juice drink. Very refreshing. read more

FORGET THE OLD REVIEWS! New owners took over about a year ago. The food before was so-so to poor, and now the food is AMAZING! FANTASTIC! The food is authentic, plentiful, professional, creative, diverse, and nicely priced, and the staff is super friendly! I love this place now. This has to be some of the best Tex-Mex on Long Island. The place is relaxed and unimposing. There is even a little bar for adults (great for dates!), and the owners and staff make kids feel welcome too. It's right across from the Wading River duck pond. Bring some frozen peas to feed the ducks. Highly recommended! read more

Great food with consistent quality. The service is friendly and prompt. Good variety of tacos and other Tex-mex type items on the menu.

I used to love their food truck they had in Manorville, now I make the trip out here whenever I'm craving their tacos. Really can't think of anything negative to say. LOCATION: small place, not much seating inside. More of a to-go type place, in my opinion. FOOD: The tacos are about $5 each, but I think it's worth it for the size and quality. The Pulled Pork and Fiery Skirt Steak are my go-to favorites. I recently tried the "Hot and Crunchy" special taco as well and that was great - it was crispy chicken with a flavorful sauce. I hope that keep that one around... They also have other mexican items like nachos and burritos if you're not a taco fan. SERVICE: everyone there is always friendly and efficient. Usually takes about a 5 minute wait time for them to whip up my tacos. read more

I've been there in the past. The food is pretty good for a quick stop. That aside today's experience was a bit different. Went in there for a quick drink not alcoholic because I'm on the clock. It was half lemonade have iced tea. I assume it's about a 16 ounce drink, I was charged over five dollars for it. I won't be back. Money isn't the issue either. There is no way that you should be charging beer prices for soft drinks coronas most places are five dollars. I wish them well and I hope they do good business in the future with whoever decides to frequent the establishment. read more

The food is very good, but they seem to skimp the toppings and meat on their specialty tacos , which is disappointing because they really do have some very good combinations in terms of flavors and toppings. The regular tacos are very good and very filling. Everything is prepared perfectly, though. they don't travel very well, so I don't like to order here from food delivery services for this reason. It is definitely worth it if you want to make the journey there, it is a bit out-of-the-way. read more

I have heard so much about this place and knew I needed to make a stop especially since it's only a minute or two from my house. We came in on a Saturday afternoon with some friends and it was super busy! The restaurant itself is not huge by any means, but seemed to fit the crowd well. They run a bunch of specials and have a small menu to match. We ordered a bunch of tacos and a chicken tortilla soup. The soft chicken and pork tacos were good but plain. My husband had a crispy chicken taco which he thought was really good. The real disappointment here was the soup. It was completely flavorless and a total waste of money. It really didn't have anything in it and was most broth with a couple of pieces of avocado floating in it. read more

I miss the old truck off the LIE. We'd frequent that spot 2-3 times a week. It never grew old so I was incredibly saddened when it shutdown. Mesquite has opened a restaurant located in wading river, which is serving up those same great tacos. We've gotten take-out a few times over the last few weeks. Oddly, the food survives a 20+ minute drive without getting soggy or gross. They package everything perfectly. It's funny cause I get tacos locally and they are falling apart, wet by the time I drive 5 minutes to get home. Definitely check this place out. Specialty tacos are great as well as their traditional hard shell ground beef tacos. read more

No words for how incredible Mesquite is! The management and staff truly go above and beyond, creating a homey-atmosphere that feels just as authentic as the food tastes. It started off as a disaster with the Lake Michigan size puddle that leads to their rear parking lot. Probably enough spots for 3-4 cars. Horrible attitudes in this place. They all seem extensively angry. Outside all that their beef taco was horrible. Burnt the ground beef and the seasoning was horrible Too. Mahi Mahi taco was deep fried?? Weird. The skirt steak taco with goat cheese was decent , outside of that, pass on this place read more

Terrible storm coming in so wanted to eat local. Could not have made a better choice. Mesquite has limited hours.... Only open from 4-8 Thursday to Sunday. We ordered a feast.... Started with chips and salsa.... Salsa more solid than liquidy but excellent nonetheless. I got 2 fish tacos, the mango finish really good ... a grilled chicken taco.... Hot sauce was perfect and black beans and rice... only thing not up to par... very dry. My daughter got fish, pulled pork and shrimp taco .... Her least favorite was the fish taco... my husband got the chicken chili ... loved it and a chicken mucho burrito... said it was great. Definitely the go to place for great Tex-mex!!! read more
